It is the powerful and the wealthy who can afford to pay more, who are involved in class warfare. The poor do not have the power or the means to start a war.
Of course they do. They go to the ballot box and vote in someone to do it for them.

Other than the French. Resolution, the Communist revolution in Russia, , the Mexican Revolution and just about every revolution in the history of mankind you’re right.

Why do I get the feeling we’re not going to get into a semantics argument about the devastating war and revolution?
Don’t you know, we have to argue about what the definiton of what “is” is, first.

What? That I am not envious but stand for a sense of fairness, some decency, and social justice. Ok I think I will try that when I’m before Him.
Yes, you want to give away what others have, not what you have.

That is envy, not charity.

Of course, the wealthy have been known to buy their own legislators as well.
The problem is that the people who are promised “goodies” by the federal government vastly outnumber the people who are expected to pay for them.

  Why are you waiting? I’ve already answered. :okpeople: I honestly do not have millions of dollars a year. Not even a quarter of a million dollars a yr.

But you’re skirting the question and the issue here. It’s easy to say “raise the taxes on the other guy, just because he makes more than me.” estesbob stated it perfectly “I pay too much and the other guy doesn’t pay enough”

If you’re such a propent of “fairness” and taxes, and honestly think government is the best charity, then why not take the lead and send the IRS some extra money? Again, it comes down to “what have you done for the poor?”

Yes, I think that is a good idea…we need a cost of living increase…and that has been waived in recent years…👍

You never answered this:

So how much of the total income tax burden do you believe is fair for the top 25% to pay?

Are you contending that the 75% who pay little or no federal income tax are poor?

How much more in income tax are you prepared to pay?

He’s voted to take money from other people to give to them. It’s just like charity…only different. The nice thing is that it requires no sacrifice whatsoever on his part, and considering he is for “shared sacrifice,” that is truly telling.

Methinks that he does not understand the term “fair” or “shared sacrafice”

“Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” Ephesians 4:28

See that Matt, with your own hands, not some rich guy.

You don’t build up treasures in heaven by opting to have someone else perform your charity.

I think some people have a poor understanding of what “shared sacrafice” actually means.

Like I said, the IRS is more than willing to take his extra funds.

What I am contending is conservatives want an unequal share of the burden to fall upon those less fortunate by means of spending cuts. Without a willingness to increase the revenue side in any meaningful way. And don’t bother with that tired and old and now failed argument about how we can’t raise taxes on the rich because they are the job producers. They’ve had their tax cuts and we still don’t have the jobs. They can afford more but the problem has now become greed. While oppression of the poor is a sin crying to heaven for vengeance.

I’m learning a lot and I appreciate you folks splaining things out…thanks for being patient with my ignorance. I love this country and have done my best to do my part, but it is obviously dying out with no one ready to go to bat for it. Hopefully we raise a “heroic” generation to come.

There is no such thing as “shared sacrifice”. Every sacrifice is a deeply personal, individual matter that cannot be “shared” with anyone. It is just a euphamism for more collectivization, i.e., look at and treating people as groups rather than as individuals.

The problem with your statements here, is that, by definition, any tax cut will benefit people actually paying taxes. I know, that’s a shock.

Secondly, your broad brush falls apart. I know many conservatives who wouldn’t mind a tax increase, but spending has to be reigned in as part of it.

This debate has turned into nonsense when you and Computer Geek, and Rig, et al, start judging how much I give of what I have and can afford. Carry on with your assault on the poor and middle class. I’ve made my points and I’m now done with this thread. Just keep patting yourselves on the back.

We’ll see how the real hero’s of this generation are treated come Aug. 2nd. The ones that sacked up and will continue to work in hazardous jobs, possibly without pay, should the powers to be fail to reach an agreement. Will they anty up again if needed or their children???
