Barring the dreaded “October Surprise” I agree with you. Is Hurricane Sandy that surprise? Hard to say. Throwing a natural disaster in the mix a week before the election is as of yet, uncharted territory. Its very hard to predict how this will impact things, or if it will at all.
I think that it is almost impossible to change momentum this late in an election.
  1. Early voters are 52% R this time, many of who are 0-1 election voters. Dem early voters are last 3-4 election voters, ie, they are scavenging their Election Day turnout.
  2. Romney has gained almost every day in the polls. NB: I don’t believe the earlier polls. I think that Romney has been leading for a month or so. His stellar debate performance probably added 2 points to his lead, but I think that he would have won, regardless.
We’ll see. 🙂

So, you only stalk ambulances? 😉
I could never catch an ambulance!🙂 I have a private criminal law practice, so I represent alleged stalkers from time to time. Very unusual crime that often involves people you would never, ever believe capable of such acts.

I thought you were a Government attorney or did business with the Government. In my own foray into criminal practice, I’d get the DWI crowd and the burglars. Low pay and a tough time catching people so they’d pay me (or not!). At least State employment was steady and I got a check every two weeks. 😃

I don’t think so. Dave is a high class attorney; I’m the shyster who used to keep a radio tuned to the police and emergency services band. 😛
Lets not exaggerate the idea of ‘high class’, Rich. Criminal defense lawyers are generally pretty far down the totem pole in terms of professional prestige. I worked in a civil law firm and as a litigation attorney for a federal agency, but I came back to my first love: criminal law. As a former prosecutor, I’ve been on both sides of the podium in the courtroom. Great stuff!

Don’t I know it. Half the time, people I knew would think that defending criminals made me one of them. “How could you defend such a person?”

Valid point regarding the wash. Fortunately, my Direct TV satellite is out until Thursday morning, so I won’t witness the pundit follies addressing the hurricane’s impact on voters. After a while, media punditry becomes very trite.
Couldn’t agree more.

The U.S. Constitution grants Americans the right to effective counsel. Moreover, our professional code of ethics (state by state basis) require that we ‘zealously’ represent our client’s best interests. Finally, with our lawyer’s oaths, we accept our role as an officer of the court. Put it all together and you have my rationale for “defend[ing] such a person”. You know how it is, Rich. My standard answer to inquirers.🙂

Y’all are just one step above politicians. 😃

Interesting polls mentioned at Townhall:

*(1) Oregon: Obama 47, Romney 41 (2008 result: Obama by 16).

(2) California: Obama by 12. (2008 result: Obama by 24)*

Romney really has no chance in Oregon (maybe a very little chance) or California, but the fact that he gained so many supporters compared to McCain in 2008 is impressive.

Charles Krauthammer last night noted how Obama made sure to get a briefing room photo of him managing during the hurricane, yet there’s no photo of him being Commander-in-Chief while Americans were getting killed in Benghazi. Ouch, Charles!

Obama will use Hurricane Sandy to enhance his image. Of course, I also think he will do what he can for Americans affected by this tragedy. But you can’t tell me his handlers haven’t discussed Obama’s public appearances on Hurricane Sandy with him. We are talking about Axelrod, Plouffe and Jarrett.
Eric Bolling the Five just said Obama will not be able to go negative now because of the storm and when he went negative was when he was up in the polls, attacking Bain etc and this storm will freeze the polls which helps Romney because he is in the lead nationally and in many of the swing states

Obama campaign has bought ad time in Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. These are supposed to be safe for Obama. Bill Clinton was being a surrogate for Obama in Minnesota. Paul Ryan was also in MN today. Restore Our Future, pro Romney super pac has bought $20 millon worth of ad time for Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin

That is definitely an attorney answer. 😉 Long winded and complicated.

When I worked for a criminal defense attorney, I just told people it was to keep the police honest.

I take Eric Bolling’s political commentary with a grain of salt unless its business-related. Eric is a former pro baseball player and commodities trader on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Same apperoach with Kimberly Guilfoyle. You have to listen to comments by Bob Beckel, Andrea Tanteros, and Dana Parino for anything politically savvy.

WRAL News poll: Romney edges ahead in NC as election nears
Mitt Romney has moved ahead of President Barack Obama in North Carolina in the final week before the election, according to a WRAL News poll released Tuesday.
SurveyUSA polled 682 likely voters statewide between Saturday and Monday and found that 50 percent would vote for Romney and 45 percent for Obama if the election were held now. The remaining 5 percent were either undecided or voting for another candidate.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
In a WRAL News poll conducted four weeks ago, Obama and Romney were in a virtual dead heat for North Carolina’s 15 electoral votes, with Obama at 49 percent and Romney at 47 percent.
