Living downtown was great, until I had to worry about children, crime, and the public school system.

In Christine and my native St. Louis, the city has an additional 1% income tax, and additional taxes to gas, groceries, etc.

We many be a little unique in that respect, as St. Louis City and St. Louis county are separate entities. Only Baltimore has a similar setup.

You really do get more bang for your buck in the county though. I put my kids through Catholic schools anyway, so that wasn’t an issue.

Housing in the bad parts of the city is cheap, but the nice parts are more expensive dollar for dollar.

(Don’t feel sorry for me, I had to downsize anyway)! Looked at condos in the City. Very, very pricey. Not as much choice for condos in the City as in the County. I did move a mile outside the City limits though. I like to take the MetroLink to balls games and such. Metrolink is very popular here.

Give me New York City with its smells and tastes and crime and crowds and Subways and Metro North any day!

I think it was because I grew up in the military. And I swear, we lived on top of one another. Grrr. I hated everyone knowing my business. I hated knowing that the neighbors had relations the night before. Blech. It awful.

Now, I want to be able to go out back first thing in the morning, in my robe and enjoy a cup of tea without anyone seeing. Or sing at the top of my lungs while I vacuum and know that no one can hear me. Or wear shoes in the house without worrying about the people below us.

I have lived in Europe, and I am glad to be home.

I shouldn’t complain, because I choose to work for a company that pays me a lot less than most accountants coming out of school make. My company cares about the poor. We give them jobs.

If we live in the city we will have to send our daughter to Catholic School. She is only three and a half and though she is socially a great kid and happy; It looks like her intelligence is average thus she wont be getting into the few “brainiac” schools in the city.

250 people employed who would otherwise not be employed, no hs diploma, etc? They work in clean air-conditioned environments.

I prefer the human touch. Makes a lot of difference in the dignity of the person. And believe me, I see it here all the time.

So I just heard someone who is ‘for Obama’ say that they thought Romney made of fool of himself at the debate because he basically agreed with everything that Obama said. I resisted replying with the obvious.

It is a corporation owned by three “rich” brothers who are Catholic and believe in doing something with the gifts God gave them.

We don’t take advantage of some of the tax credits for hiring, too much paperwork.

I also report employment figures to the DOL, which is where they get some of their monthly employment figures.

We’ve lost a lot of accounts over the past 3 1/2 years.

Bad JUJU from the economy and the banking regulations.

I’m a rail transportation aficianado (ask me about my HO scale passenger trains and subway cars) and St. Louis has a fine system. Also good is that it operates from catenary; you can’t get electrocuted as you can in NYC if you fall onto the tracks.

You have to be careful when you talk about “social justice”. That has some pretty rotten roots.

Regardless of what anyone on here says, you will be accountable for who you vote for and why you voted the way you did.

the reason you don’t hear a lot about social justice in these forums is the term social justice has been co-opted by the left and is used to justify abortion, homosexual behavior, same-sex marriage, affirmative action, excessive regulation and excessive taxation.

Yes it did-after it made it clear that a Catholic could not either directly or indirectly support abortion. One can most certainly support social justice and oppose abortion at the same time. What one can not do is claim their interpretation of what a candidate would do on social justice allows them to vote for a candidate who supports unrestricted taxayer funded abortion on demand
