You really do get more bang for your buck in the county though. I put my kids through Catholic schools anyway, so that wasnāt an issue.Living downtown was great, until I had to worry about children, crime, and the public school system.
In Christine and my native St. Louis, the city has an additional 1% income tax, and additional taxes to gas, groceries, etc.
We many be a little unique in that respect, as St. Louis City and St. Louis county are separate entities. Only Baltimore has a similar setup.
Housing in the bad parts of the city is cheap, but the nice parts are more expensive dollar for dollar.
(Donāt feel sorry for me, I had to downsize anyway)! Looked at condos in the City. Very, very pricey. Not as much choice for condos in the City as in the County. I did move a mile outside the City limits though. I like to take the MetroLink to balls games and such. Metrolink is very popular here.
