Um…I said I was kidding. I’m well aware of the benefits of the “return on investment”, which BTW will continue regardless of whether gay people get married or not. Gay marriage will not eliminate heterosexual marriage or the resultant procreation that comes from many heterosexual marriages. For heterosexual marriage, there is a return on investment: Children who will grow up to become those who support us in our old age, who will pay the taxes that will support our nation into the future, who will become the doctors and nurses that will keep our frail bodies as healthy as possible for one more day.
Same-sex “marriage” gives no possibility of such a return. All homosexual couples are, by the very nature of their biology, 100% sterile.
I know: “What about sterile heterosexual couples?” There is no criteria other than the actual absence of gonads from whence sterility can be diagnosed with certainty. I know two couples who were both told by several doctors that they were definitely sterile and unable to have children. I’m godfather to the son of one of the couples, and the others are now expecting their second child.
For those few who actually are sterile due to disease or injury, that is a medical condition that is not apparent to a casual viewer. In the United States, such medical information is rightly considered to be confidential and can only be released in the most extraordinary circumstances. One’s sex is not a medical condition. It is not privileged information. It is a part of one’s public identity.
