For heterosexual marriage, there is a return on investment: Children who will grow up to become those who support us in our old age, who will pay the taxes that will support our nation into the future, who will become the doctors and nurses that will keep our frail bodies as healthy as possible for one more day.

Same-sex “marriage” gives no possibility of such a return. All homosexual couples are, by the very nature of their biology, 100% sterile.

I know: “What about sterile heterosexual couples?” There is no criteria other than the actual absence of gonads from whence sterility can be diagnosed with certainty. I know two couples who were both told by several doctors that they were definitely sterile and unable to have children. I’m godfather to the son of one of the couples, and the others are now expecting their second child.

For those few who actually are sterile due to disease or injury, that is a medical condition that is not apparent to a casual viewer. In the United States, such medical information is rightly considered to be confidential and can only be released in the most extraordinary circumstances. One’s sex is not a medical condition. It is not privileged information. It is a part of one’s public identity.
Um…I said I was kidding. I’m well aware of the benefits of the “return on investment”, which BTW will continue regardless of whether gay people get married or not. Gay marriage will not eliminate heterosexual marriage or the resultant procreation that comes from many heterosexual marriages.

There is no tradition that YOU accept as valid that accepts gay people. There are traditions that other Americans accept as valid that perform gay marriages, and even have gay people as leaders. You don’t have to join those traditions or believe that their interpretation is valid…but they also don’t have to join yours and believe that your interpretation is valid. That is what religious freedom means. We ALL get to worship as we choose and live by the religious traditions we choose. The state does not get to tell us what religious traditions we will live by.
Seeker, thank you for answering before I got back here as I was just about to explain who they are. 👍 I know though just for a couple of for instances they include Christians in the UCC. Their denomination is on record of favoring SS marriage. Include some of the Christians in TEC. In some Episcopal dioceses, their priests have been given permission by their bishops to celebrate blessings of SS couples. Both considered to be mainline Protestants. Unitarian Universalists are another faith community which favors SS marriage. Other mainline Protestant denominations I know have found themselves in the discerning process at one point or another. And you are correct of course. Their interpretation differs from what Catholics believe or accept. But nonetheless they do use Scripture as I’ve seen their interpretations of various verses regarding homosexuality. But as I believe I already explained, I’ve been accused in the past of leading Catholics astray when I’ve posted other denominations’ interpretations of Scripture here. That’s why I can’t explain it in more detail here. Of course then I’m accused of avoidance. But as I said I have previously explained other traditions’ interpretations of Scripture in regard to homosexuality on the non Catholic forum before. And I actually learned their explanations and Biblical interpretations partly by doing my own search of sites on the internet.

news.msn.com/politics/obama-urges-court-to-overturn-gay-marriage-ban

And California Dreaming is becoming a reality? 🤷

"Obama, a former constitutional law professor, raised expectations that he would back a broad brief during his inauguration address on Jan. 21. He said the nation’s journey “is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.”

“For if we are truly created equal, than surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well,” Obama said."
Jesus reached out to people who were shunned by the society then and converted them. I feel Obama too, is attempting the same. Obama’s approach is not unique; leading Catholic Theologians have already suggested the same in a memorandum to the Pope: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_2011

I hope and pray that the Supreme Court doesn’t try to force the abomination of gay “marriage” on the entire United States of America. I would be incredibly dismayed if they did so. Unfortunately I think we are headed in that direction. I hope and pray that I never live to see the day when gay couples are allowed to “marry” in my state.

Jesus reached out to people who were shunned by the society then and converted them. I feel Obama too, is attempting the same.
Your entire post is off-topic.

(1) Jesus would have done no such thing as to suggest homosexual “marriage.” It completely opposed his faithful Jewish worldview. Homosexual behavior itself was explicitly forbidden among these ancient Jews; it was one way they distinguished themselves from the pagans of their contemporary age. So Jesus wouldn’t have been “reaching out” to those who wanted homosexual “marriage” - a concept which is an anachronism on its face for that time, and unthinkable. The idea is a complete fantasy.

(2) Obama is not “reaching out” to “sinners,” so any parallel between Jesus and Obama is not only completely inaccurate but also rather offensive. Obama is not only not a modern Messiah; he is not even a rabbi or a minister. So whatever you “feel” about him is not based on the world of facts.

Obama does not have any spiritual role/credibility/ authority for “converting sinners.”

(3) Obama is not looking for conversion. He is explicitly looking to support the behavior.
Obama’s approach is not unique
There is no “approach” except to popularize and legitimatize a fiction called same-sex “mariage.” He does not have a spiritual goal, sir. He has a cultural goal, one which is utterly unharmonious with the goals and approach of Jesus of Nazareth.
leading Catholic Theologians have already suggested the same in a memorandum to the Pope: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_2011
“Leading?” Do you even begin to understand that this is a heterodox group of theologians?

"Church 2011 is a memorandum promulgated by Catholic theology professors, primarily from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The memorandum, whose full German title is Kirche 2011: Ein notwendiger Aufbruch, was started in Germany in January 2011. The memorandum is a general demand for reform of the Roman Catholic Church in response to the sexual abuse scandal among German priests.

The memorandum demands:

1.Structures of participation: more participation of all people in the Catholic Church, particularly through election of bishops and priests;
2.Parish community: more help for Catholic communities, with a more explicit sharing of responsibilities. Married priests and women as priests should be allowed;
3.Legal culture: the Catholic Church should initiate a church jurisdiction;
4.Freedom of conscience: respect for individual conscience, particularly for divorced people, who want to marry again, and for homosexual civil unions;
5.Reconciliation: greater reconciliation of the church to her own history; and
6.Worship: reform of the Roman Catholic liturgy (with greater modern influence, and more influence from the cultural life of countries).
As of February 2011[update], over 300 Catholic professors, theologians and other religious scientists from across the world had signed the memorandum."

Nothing in there about “leading.” And certainly nothing in there about being in communion with Rome, and thus representing authentic Catholic theology.

I try to view people in a positive light until such time that they do something that would convince me otherwise. I have friends and co-workers who are atheists and they would no more deny me my right to express my faith than I would deny them their right not to believe what I do. Maybe you’ve just met the wrong atheists! ;).
Amen

Most said this with abortion and same-sex through the late 60’s and early 70’s. Oops and wink-wink, turned into full blown genocide. This started with free-love fueled by drugs and the trauma of Vietnam. Added to this was the fact that abortion was truly barbaric in this period such as NYC as you mention. SS relations always been in NYC and elsewhere, and in this period I mention. One only needs to think a few years ahead to the disco era fueled by again drugs and namely cocaine.

The civil rights movement bought extra baggage along in the circus atmosphere. That extra baggage are these issues. Nothing to be proud of here. The true movement was and is the destruction of racial lines. Though we allowed this to slip back into darkness, those of us who were truly there know we can repeat this victory because this was an undeniable victory. And if you look close you will see the Catholic Church from the on-set of the 60’s

Obama has embraced all our wrongs and that which we regret, what we did do in responsible love and concern for our brothers is not promoted, That which we were wrong about is what he promotes. And not for equal rights but for Business and money.

And it should noted the Church was right then, and its right now. We were quick to speak and slow to listen back then. Same issue today and you will repeat the same mistakes. And look how long the evil has lingered around with Abortion.

Prudence indeed is called for less we multiply error and in a critical period in history which our leader has a wanton disregard for. Life is our priority and all that which preserves life, all that distracts from life must be acknowledged and seen for what is. This is not to put to fault it is to preserve the basic principle and foundation of our country…LIFE first.
So, what is actually happening in states like NY where gay marriage is legal? Cardinal Dolan seems to be doing ok up there. He’s still teaching the Catholic faith loud and proud.
Same old, same old, there is no critical view or hate but from the frustrated and misguided. The hate usually comes from the other side also when those who chose to assemble in peace do so.

Obama is embracing an ill advised cause, but more importantly he is neglecting the real issues. And he has been right along. And as you see with Abortion once we allow this in, it is very difficult to remove.

We don’t need to embrace Obamas foolishness at the cost of our future, and more importantly to give our children an uneeded Cross to bear. Just as we gave them the abortion Cross. And the youth have taken up this cause and I am proud of them. We need not add to their trial.

Again, whoever the President is, their responsibility is to ALL citizens. They aren’t your Priest, or your Pope. It’s not their job to enforce the traditions of your faith. It’s their job to enforce CIVIL law, which is not based on the traditions of any particular faith. And as has been illustrated above, not all faiths reject gay marriage.

Abortion is an entirely different issue-there is a third party involved. Gay marriage is about 2 consenting adults and the benefits they receive from the state for their union.

Your not accused of anything, to set the record straight it was you who accused. That’s the truth you seem to be having an issue with but still. And I wouldn’t want to defend this horror show if I were you either.

No Apostolic Church has ever taught this nor does it now. Not the message of Christ or the Church’s His Apostles established, then or now. The deviation is well document in the Anglican and Episcopal congregations, Bishop Robinson, active Bishop and the first to promote this is incorrect and nothing supports. Nothing, nothing Biblically. In fact its just the opposite.

As for the question about whether faithful monogamous lifelong-intentioned relationships between people of the same sex is right. Its not for this Bishop to interpret Gods word to fit his mortal inclinations in regard to sin! As if God might have left something out or omitted it. Nor is it for Obama as these are mere men and do not have a preponderance of evidence on there side in the theological realm. Nor does history support this wanton act in the social-political realm.

And most certainly as already established in this thread this Bishop is speaking way over head in the realm of medical supporting evidence.

Romans 1:24-27

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

So the fleeting idea that some embrace this is ill founded. Nothing, no-where supports. Vanity of Vanities is what it is.

And our priority is life and the economy hows he doing?
Abortion is an entirely different issue-there is a third party involved. Gay marriage is about 2 consenting adults and the benefits they receive from the state for their union.
All begins with a thought in the mind none of these thoughts lead to life, one of the same. And both are contrary to Union as acknowledged by life.

Life itself bears witness to the self-evident truth.

Not only that but children have rights. This is hardly ever mentioned. This is not just a sectarian issue but one of human rights. Children ought not be exposed to such things under the cover of civil law. Such laws are unjust. Period.

This thread is discussing gay marriage…if you want to discuss the economy start another one. I’ve gotten clipped for going off topic before so I won’t do it again.

Two consenting adults getting tax and other benefits because their union is now called “marriage” by the state is not anti-life. It’s not going to stop heterosexuals from marrying and procreating.

And it effects the economy and life. And no I didn’t bring it into the thread, someone else did. So in our “relevant” conversation it is relevant.

When one promotes an idea then its their burden of proof to demonstrate the benefits will outweigh the harm. Where is this?

I’d like to see something from an organization that isn’t already against gay marriage. Of course the FRC is going to show “damage”. How about some evidence that the economy and lives of people of states like MA and NY have been harmed exclusively by allowing gay marriage. I mean, I could go to the HRC site and grab any number of studies showing benefits of gay marriage, but you would rightly call bias on that.

Honestly, I don’t think there will be any real benefits to anyone other than the couples themselves. I also don’t think there will be any harm to anyone outside their homes. We’re talking about less than 10% of the population, and an even smaller percentage of that who will avail themselves of marriage at all. There just aren’t enough people involved to move the economic needle all that much.

Legal here in CT also. which I see no difference from before and after. Its really not an issue at least in the public sense. I think its a mistake to promote as we just don’t know the long term results. There’s noting to compare with. I don’t have an once of hate for these souls. I’m skeptical and I believe its well founded as the full speed ahead thinking has created some on-going dilemmas. Most notably with family in the US. That said it has gained favor because there’s an equality as people which needs to be recognized.

Reaching out is what men and politicians do, it’s a way to persuade you to believe something that can go against all religious and moral truths. I have yet to hear or read about anything Obama believes that could justify him being used in the same paragraph as Jesus let alone the same sentence.

The Netherlands is going on 12 years now. That is the longest. They legalized gay marriage effective in 2001.

Well, there it is, isn’t it? You can still not like gay marriage, you can still teach your children that homosexual behavior is wrong, and if I’m correct, your life hasn’t really changed.

Why would we not assume that if this is the case in the states where gay marriage is already legal, that it would be the case overall? We have evidence showing that it isn’t a major upheaval, but NONE that it is.
