I’m sorry that analogy doesn’t work.

David didn’t have a gun - he had a slingshot.

David was younger than Goliath.

David didn’t go looking for Goliath

Goliath was armed and looking for a fight.
Actually David did go looking for Goliath. Twice a day for 40 days, Goliath, the champion of the Philistines challenged the Israelites to send out a champion of their own to decide the outcome of their war in single combat, but Saul and all the Israelites are afraid to face him. David hears that Saul has promised to reward any man who defeats Goliath, and accepts the challenge - basically he was a paid bounty hunter.

Of course not - and this doesn’t contradict GracePool’s point does it?

Retreat is an option - until it becomes not viable -then it is not an option.

Then self defence becomes an option.
My point is that SYG played no part at all in the events.
SYG should not even be part of the conversation.

No evidence he stalked the teen.

Z did call the police to do their job.

Confrontation was initiated by Martin.

It all could have been avoided if Z had simply not called the police, had not tried to assist his neighbors, had stuck to simply looking out after himself.
Or he could have called the police and followed their advice.

That’s why the police give advice like this - because they want to avoid situations like this developing.

David was the defense, Goliath was the prosecution.

Zimmerman Attorneys React To Verdict: ‘It Was A Little Bit David And Goliath, But We Won’

"Following the jury’s not guilty verdict Saturday night, George Zimmerman attorneys Mark O’Mara and Don West held a press conference to react to the ruling and to take questions from reporters. …

…“It was a fight that we had to fight. They outfunded us, they made it extraordinarily difficult… Was it fair? You know, it was a little bit David and Goliath, but we won.”…

It has happened its happened to ppl I know. I’ve been called cracker honkey and all that by a group of blacks. It happens.
This case was not about race in the trial. The judge ruled the term profiling could be used by the prosecution but not racial profiling.

I completely agree racism IS a big problem in this country

At this point I’m not talking about the law anymore. I am saying that the unnecessary loss of life could have bee avoided had Z let police do their jobs. As Catholics we should never desire the loss of life!
It also could have been avoided if Martin had just gone home or talked to Zimmerman like a normal human being rather than attacking him. Or if the police would have arrive a minute earlier or one of the locals would have intervened. Or if TM wouldn’t have gotten kicked out of school. You can go back endlessly to find points in time that would have changed the outcome.

The only point in time that matters is the point when the first punch was thrown. If that hadn’t happened, TM wouldn’t be dead.

And tm didnt have to confront then attck him either… I cannot understand why you cannot see that Z was the victim.
What “oversized”? Autopsy said he was 5ft 10. Never had to happen if Z had stayed in his car and waited for police. No had to be a super hero.

We’ve discussed the other issues on the other thread but I would have no problem with
being on Neighborhood watch. I’d rather run the PTA though it’s more my “line of work.” 🙂
I would leave police work up to the police myself and not call people “suspects”
That’s me though. I would not be armed because sometimes when you are “looking for trouble” you find it.

Of course, if the politicians had allowed the local police to do their job, this would never have gone to court.

Z was headed back for his vehicle… tm doubled back. IMO tm brought this on himself. As sad as it is.

[Bolded mine]:

Now see… we can agree on something :D:thumbsup:

Yep. If he had got his butt in the house like a good black boy none of this would have happened. Never mind he was a U.S. citizen with rights to be out wherever he wanted at 7 pm.

B.S. lead detective wanted to charge manslaughter from the start.

Shooting Murder of Trayvon Martin
Obama Files Federal Charges Against George Zimmerman Following Acquittal in Shooting Murder of Trayvon Martin

Just when we thought the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case was over after Zimmerman’s acquittal, the Obama Administration has taken the steps needed to file federal charges, thus sidestepping the well established double jeopardy, against Zimmerman. Unidentified sources within the Administration have confirmed that Obama, and Justice Eric Holder at the Department of Justice have filed charges against Zimmerman for “violating Trayvon Martin’s civil rights”.
You have got to be kidding me.

Shame on you… why are you race baiting… NO ONE HERE said this had anything to do with race… YOU DID!

:tsktsk:

How does that analogy apply in your opinion? It still doesn’t work. Zimmerman was given money from strangers for his defense. His truthfulness about that money in the initial bond hearing was suspect.
It’s not my analogy…it was the one used by O’Mara during the post-verdict interview. Referencing that the Defense was out spent & “outgunned” by the State.

I am sorry to hear that you were beat up as such; that shouldn’t happen to anyone.
Everyone should be safe in any neighborhood regardless of your race and not beat up or killed because you happened to be of the “wrong race” and “suspect” or because there were other crimes in your neighborhood and you meet the description (albeit loosely)
of the perpetrators of a crime you did not commit.

Unfortunately, that is not the reality of course. In a perfect world which someday hopefully we will experience. (Heaven of course ! :))
