But is it a good intention to INTENTIONALLY plan music that the Pope has publicly said on many occassions that he finds distasteful?
How do we know that it was a distasteful musics for him yesterday? Though he commented about this type of music in the past. I guess we will all know when this is all over. All of us go back to our Church and hear what our Priest or Bishop got to say about it whether the Pope will advice them not to do that again next time. I think for a clear and true answer we all need to ask our Priests and our Bishops.

Holy Spirit would not allowed anything that is not right if you believe in the Holy Spirit. I strongly believe who ever decide on the songs they pray for it they pray for the intercessions of the Holy Spirit to help them.

To purposely plan music that the Pope can’t stand at a PAPAL MASS … is inconsiderate at best. Just MO.
Again where did he say he couldn’t stand the music? I have read things about preferences and a wish to get back to and stuff like that. I have never heard or read him say, he couldn’t stand the music.

I think you have been reading and/or interpretting what other people are saying he said instead of reading the exact quotes.

The question may have been direct, but I hardly think it qualifies as bad manners.
I thought so too. It was “in your face” no way around it and the look on the HF’s face said it all.

Let’s see the President of the United States is coming over for dinner. He begins many of his speeches with the words I don’t like meat from a pig, I do like apples. The menu planners wanting to welcome him and show him a great time from his people plan an elaborate menu consisting of, bacon, scrapple, and sausage, and an apple wedge for a garnish.

But we can’t say whether he liked it or not, until tomorrow after he has had time to digest the foods he has said over and over and over and over again that he dislikes, and hey we gave him an apple … and the fact of the matter is, is isn’t this the USA and loving America is what it’s all about. Just because he says he doesn’t like sausage, that;s just his opinion and what does his personal tastes matter at a dinner that he is presiding over anyway. i think you all just like to complain when really you should just be loving America!!

I am sorry Ana but this is not about food - food is human desire what they want to eat and like but when come to spiritual music, Holy Spirit came along. Of course we human have to pick first but the okay is by the Holy Spirit through the person in charge. God have mercy on us.

Yhe person incharge is not infallible when choosing the music. Even the Pope does not exercise infallibility over every decision he makes. The ones who chose this music, if done on prupose are evil, if done out of ignorance are then only guilty of foolishness, but to claim the Holy Spirit had a hand in music that offensive to so many peoples ears, and actually caused our Holy Father to grimace as if in pain, is just … (sigh) … whatever. Believe what you want. I won’t confuse you with facts, video footage, etc.

Sorry to use your method, it would be similar to the President coming over for multiple meals and at one meal (at the National Shrine and other locations) giving him all apples. Then at another meal (at the ballpark) giving him apples but also having pork for the people that like pork.

Si linguis hominum loquar et angelorum caritatem autem non habeam factus sum velut aes sonans aut cymbalum tinniens ut ardeam caritatem autem non habuero nihil mihi prodest

Nunc autem manet fides spes caritas tria haec maior autem his est Caritas Ad Corinthios ILots of passionate discussion today and I believe it is good to have sincere, passionate convictions. The message many (of us) have here might be best received if we respond as the Pope did yesterday, with nobility and charity.

There is a distinction between Sacred Music and Liturgical Music; numerous documents of the church seek to address this. From my point of view there was a conflict between the Pastoral Direction given by Benedict and the Pastoral Judgment used in the music at the Mass yesterday.

There is the thing how do we know the person who purposely pick the song purposely doing it. I don’t understand. As for me I never want to look and find fault in others so I really cannot accuse somebody like that. If pick song about devil I would say something.

Sorry, I thought he has only done ONE PAPAL MASS so far. I must have missed the PAPAL MASS held at the National Shrine, and other locations.

There’s only one real question we should be concerned with.

Did GOD like the choice of music?

Ok, I was able to watch the whole thing last night, and gee wiz, nothing like clapping and applause for a jazz song during Holy Communion… I think it’s safe to say that there are two distinct types of Catholics in the United States errrr Estados Unitos imean
미국 er wait Ηνωμενες Πολιτειες and 米国

Since when did we put the Marketing Department in charge of liturgy?

He has been to multiple events, not all of them are Masses. Your analogy was flawed. The Masses aren’t the only events he was invited to that music was provided for him. He has been to several events and there are several more. Any one of which can provide for his “tastes.”

P.S. There have been more papal masses, he supposedly said Mass every morning at the embassy.

He has been VERY specific in regards for his preferances for music DURING MASS!! What don’t you get about this?

It is like talking to a wall.

a) All songs were approved by the Vatican and the archdiocese.
b) He has expressed his opinion. It is only that. Just because he prefers one type of music doesn’t mean all the music at the event has to be that way.
c) The charity in your posts is somewhat lacking.

While I still find yesterday’s music bad from any point of view.

Hope you all are prepared if you ever go to Rome, St. Peter’s doesn’t offer much ‘Pride of Place’ on many levels either, but I’m always humbled by just being there.

I’m always somewhat befuddled and mucially pleased that most major networks (including EWTN) play recordings of Anglican Choirs singing Roman Music, even at Pontifical Events.

We should “PLAY NICE”

You are right. I heard on Fox news yesterday about All songs were approved by the Vatican etc.

I’m sure that Protestants pray for the intercession of the Holy Spirit also but still fail at accepting some of the truths of the Church.
What happened at that Mass was shameful. The Pope has always been crystal clear on was is acceptable music for the Holy Mass and what is acceptable outside of the Mass. To refuse to to acknowledge it was arrogant. It makes the U.S. look bad. It’s like saying “Thanks for your suggestions, your Holiness, but your in America and here we like to do things our way”.
