Dear Lord is that offensive. And again I severely doubt that if that fellow walked into the ladies after you you would be able to tell what they’d been assigned at birth.

Sexuality is not that malleable by the time that someone becomes older so that it can be changed merely by having ideas put in their head. And until the last few decades, LGBT people were far less likely to find sympathetic therapists and there were no talking points they could learn on the Internet or the playground. Instead, some got things like electroshock treatment done to them to try to “cure” them. Maybe you’re too young to remember what it was like before the Internet.

Once upon a time I used to believe that.
But I’ve seen too much…
 
I think the fact that different cultures have different rates of this and the fact that numbers have increased drastically in a short time there have to be environmental factors that influence this.
 
But also potentially people going down this route who might have chosen another route. What I also find odd is that we have more freedom for both sexes to dress how they want, have opportunities to seek different jobs etc so why now are there more people feeling the need to transition.
 
I’ve wondered about that, too, if there is actually something in the water.

It’s also true, that non-standard sexual behaviors are seen at varying rates in different cultures and different eras.

Freud hypothesized that male homosexuality was caused by having a weak father and overbearing mother. People don’t believe it’s true today. But perhaps it was true at that time–that the nature and nurture of Freud’s era could have triggered homosexuality in boys with that particular family dynamic in a way that was peculiar to that time, but not others.
 
But if you don’t have body dysmorphic issues surely it is just clothes, why not just dress and style yourself how you want?
 
… you Freud’s work is considered exceptionally wrong about everything, right? Though he at least saw nothing wrong with homosexuality.

But I wonder if maybe that family dynamic was common for homosexual men at that time because of other things going on in the culture, but for whatever reason it doesn’t have a correlation today…

The fact is, we don’t really know where all this is coming from, or at least there doesn’t seem to be one single, absolute, definite cause. But I do think culture plays a role (among other things)
 
I think what it comes down to is us TERFs would rather do away with gender and focus on the person and what their needs are as a man or woman and what they are capable of as an individual. Gender is really just a social construct. Sex is determined from birth and can’t be changed but gender shouldn’t hold you back if you are capable.

I think it would be better to just let people born male dress and do more feminine things if that’s their preference rather than lump them in with women. The trans worldview feels a bit like dividing humans into men and others, women aren’t a leftovers group.

I mean, go ahead and cross typical sex roles if you enjoy a hobby or have a talent that isn’t common for your sex. Folks shouldn’t point and laugh.
But insisting that the individual is the opposite sex, based on feelings?
No.
Destroying healthy body parts because of a feeling?
No.
Planting the seeds of neurosis and doubt in children who don’t have the cognitive ability or life experience to understand they’re being propagandized?
Nasty.
