I would just like to point out that the current holder of the office of president of the U.S. is worth about 16 million dollars. Doesn’t that make him one of THEM? Sorry if this has already been addressed. I didn’t read many of the posts on this thread - it appears to be wandering off track anyways.

As Christine pointed out, the thread is about Paul Ryan. Sorry to have contributed to the wandering by talking about Obama and Romney. :o

Yes really. No it’s not irrelevant since you seem to believe one cannot relate to those not like themselves. Sorry about your wife. You had referred to her on another thread (the broodmare comment) so I assumed she was still part of your life.
I got a suspension for using that term, so please… And, she is part of my life. She is still the mother of my children and we share concerns there, and because of her Stage 4b cancer, I remain part of hers.
OK you are contradicting yourself by saying those with different experiences can’t relate but you relate to women. Really and how could that be?
My tango partners and my other women friends are pretty much on the same social and educational level as I. That is how it could be.

I enjoyed Dick Morris’s write up on the up and coming debate between the VP and Congressman Paul Ryan. It will be a unique debate, one in which many consider the intellectual leader of the GOP, Paul Ryan will be discussing ideas that he helped craft.

“Ryan: Romney’s Best Spokesman”

excerpt:
The vice presidential debate gives Paul Ryan a unique opportunity to explain Mitt Romney’s economic programs and ideas in front of a massive national audience. We will see Paul Ryan at his best. And that is very, very good.
He is not just a vice presidential candidate. He is the author and intellectual founder of the modern Republican agenda. There can be no more profound and articulate a spokesman to defend and elaborate the Romney agenda to America.
It is rare that the ideological and substantive creator of a public policy agenda gets to weigh in during a national public debate. Usually, intellects of his scope and force are relegated to ghost writing and speech preparation. But now the originator of these ideas is the candidate himself. His ideas have shaped the entire Republican agenda and his programs for reform have energized its ranks. Now the author, himself, will be called upon to define and defend his programs and his ideas…

I just hope the audience doesn’t get glazed over like Obama did in this 2010 video

OK so people of different demographics can’t relate? I guess I should just give up since you say one thing, then contradict yourself and when I point that out you ignore the post.

Back to where this started. I don’t believe Romney’s wealth, or Obama’s or Biden’s or Ryan’s for that matter mean anything with respect to their ability to understand the people of the United States no matter what their financial situation. We have some common beliefs, a common culture, a government that was based on a particular worldview. There is a big difference between Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness and Liberty, Fraternity and Equality. My belief is that Romney, Ryan and even Biden ascribe to the AMERICAN philosophy whereas Obama I believe is far more comfortable with the tenants of the French Revolution.

Equality has NEVER been our objective, other than equal rights endowed by our Creator. OTOH the French, the Left and IMO Barack Obama has a strong desire to reduce America in such a way that people’s standard of living (well except for the elite) should be more equal and that is more important than what I think are the American values of being masters of our domains and our destinies.
