Romney just handed Obama the senior vote on a silver platter.

What a moronic selection.
Not this senior’s vote. And I am far from alone in approving the selection of Ryan. At least the nation now will have at least a chance to avoid driving off the debt cliff.

The voters will have to decide whether they wish to drive off the cliff by going with Obama, or to pull back from the cliff by going with Romney. For the most part it won’t be seniors who suffer the worst consequences of driving off the debt cliff, although everyone will suffer. I can only hope that the nation as a whole decides to pull back from that disaster.

Religious people, of course, have even more reason to fear an Obama second term, and the promise of more religious persecution it will bring.

Even though this thread did not start with a news article, I will leave it open to discuss the Paul Ryan selection.

Send me a PM if you have any questions.

Talk about misspeaking. Romney introduced Ryan as the next president of the US. Please don’t go there having voted for W.
Yes, Romney and Obama have both made gaffes. Biden does every time he speaks. To compare the frequency of their misspeaks with his is like saying both Arnold Schwazeneggar in Commando and world heaviest man according to Guiness have very high BMIs. Technically, it is true, but…

I noticed you avoided finding a stellar comparison like John Edwards…

This had to be the dumbest choice for VP since McCain’s choice in Palin.

Romney needs the independent vote, not the base conservative Republican vote.

Choosing Ryan, sends the independents to Obama, or they’ll just stay home, in which chase, Obama wins.

Fact is, by choosing Ryan, Romney will lose his own state of Massachusetts.

Jim
I think it was the only choice for VP since McCain, unless Biden is in the middle. Anyway, every poll shows that more people call themselves “conservative” than “liberal.” So, if the “independents” stay home, Romney wins. Since most “independents” are more fiscally conservative than socially, I say they’d have no problem with Ryan.

He is articulate, and a skilled politician. But, I think the case of Wisconsin shows something interesting about the electorate. In the recall election, the electorate supported Walker, but they also support Obama by the same margin. It will be interesting to see if Ryan can change this, both in Wisconsin and in other states.
I agree that Ryan can certainly put Wisconsin more in play for Romney, and not only for the blue-collar vote.

Because he does! I’m 70 and dread what Ryan wants to do to us seniors. Romney could have done better. 😦
What specifically does he want to do to seniors?

All I ever hear is that American’s must pay their fare share. Now when it is time to trim shouldn’t you be willing to share now too?

Ryan is a super intellectual, a hard worker, quick on his feet and a really good guy. He was my second choice behind Rubio. 😃 Rob

My favorite was Biden proclaiming in 2008 that the most important thing in the election was a three letter word: J-O-B-S

That’s your opinion, and I, as a senior who will turn 71 in December have mine. Is it okay with you if I voice an opinion? 😦
Your “opinion” that Paul Ryan wants you to die is silly. The “opinion” that his budget plan (which is itself dead) would have no impact on your social security/medicare/etc. is a fact.

Which liberals on here think it is a good pick then? Meltzerboy does, but he’s also been too rationale and coherent to take seriously as a rabid partisan liberal.
Thanks for the compliment, He Man. My liberal (and conservative) friends are also pretty much level-headed.

You should say that about obamatax. Its far more accurate.
Paul Ryan’s world view brings this election front and center as to what kind of nation we are going to be going forward. One still with some empathy for the less fortunate and those in need. Or one that would be willing in such a severe way to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the sick while continuing to benefit the rich with further tax cuts. I can only say good luck everyone.

Do you have any idea as to what polls say about “senior” support for Romney? He is ahead. Do you think those seniors don’t know that Romney has been “all in” on Ryan’s budget? I doubt it, since they are pretty well-informed. Romney will win the senior vote, just like McCain did.

But didn’t you see that ad with the grandmother in a wheelchair being thrown off the cliff? My morbid, Seinfeld-like sense of humor thought it was actually funny.

Exactly. Seniors aren’t hoping to turn our nation into another Greece. We are rather hoping that can be avoided. But Obama has no intention of avoiding it.

Some pundits have wondered whether Ryan (or Romney) has enough, or any, foreign-policy experience. However, what experience did Obama or GWB have? I guess that may be the trouble, no? OTOH, the bar today for becoming President or Vice-President is so low that on-the-job training seems to be the preferred method of instruction. Think of some of the past candidates: Eisenhower vs. Stevenson, Nixon vs. Kennedy, George H.W. Bush vs. Clinton. I see a more or less steady decline in the quality of candidates. Then again, I often see a steady decline in the quality of everything.
Franklin D Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, no governor has had foreign policy experience

Here is an interview with the Washington Examiner Ryan did earlier this year where he talks about his foreign policy experience

Ryan has worked on legislation regarding the Middle East in congress for the the last 14 years
I formed the Middle East Caucus in early 2000s. On Ways and Means, which is a trade committee, I was point guy on the MEFTA. This is an arcane idea. We used to like doing trade agreements. And the MEFTA is the Middle East Free Trade Area Initiative, which is to create, we believe – and this was a good idea back in the Bush Administration. Get free trade agreements with these moderate Muslim countries, to integrate our economies. You have to require rule of law, women’s rights, you know, enforceable contracts. Yeah, but it’s been languishing, so I worked on the Moroccan Agreement, the Jordanian Agreement, the Omani Agreement, the Bahraini Agreement. I negotiated all the implementing legislation on that with the Democrats.
