You liberals and teens for Christ need to get you criticisms straight. If the Republicans run a moderate, you chide him for being a fake conservative. If they run a Conservative, you chide him for being conservative.

Given your party’s last two nominees are a fallen from grace philanderer and a guy who misspeaks as though he’s the product of an experiment using Dan Quayle and Alexander Haig’s DNA, I’d reserve judgement if I were you.

Ryan is respected in Congress, and extremely intelligent. We’ll see how he impacts the ticket, but this is certainly good ground to start from.
Talk about misspeaking. Romney introduced Ryan as the next president of the US. Please don’t go there having voted for W.

Exactly. Seniors currently on Medicare will face few changes, but the younger populace
will have the ability to even have Medicare. Currently, the way it was heading it would be
bankrupt in a short time. Obamacare has already starting making changing for seniors
far more threatening, including having “panels” deciding on whether an elderly person
should have medical procedure, even if it is in an emergency situation when the panels
are not able to meet right away.
Bet many seniors do not like one size Medicare, but would rather a plan that allow health care plans to compete, which will lower costs and increase quality health care benefits. Congressmen and women do not have one size health care, they choose different health care options, and under the Ryan plan all those under 55 will have that choice when it is enacted

That’s your opinion, and I, as a senior who will turn 71 in December have mine. Is it okay with you if I voice an opinion? 😦
Where did I say you couldn’t?

As a person who has 75 year old mother who has stage 4 cancer and a 78 year old father, I’m entitled to my opinion as well.

If EMILY’s list and Planned Parenthood are bashing Ryan you know he is a great choice

If liberals were called Ryan a good choice republicans would need to be concerned
I think Ryan is a good choice! I may disagree with him, but he’s bright, both ideological and practical, policy-oriented, and invigorates Romney’s rather dull campaign so far. The battle-lines between the parties will be that much clearer now. I didn’t much care for his little speech this morning though, although I realize it wasn’t meant to be a policy talk.

You are the only 1 I have heard say he is a good choice

I will try to be as charitable as I can but you represent what is a major flaw in a democratic/republic system.
Thank you for being ‘charitable’. It is not a flaw of the people, it is a reaction to a flawed democratic/republic system.
On the one hand you say that you don’t keep up with politics having never heard of Paul Ryan. Then you ask if he is the one who wants to shorten the life spans of the elderly. And then you give a thumbs up to throwing all politicians out and starting over again.
That’s right. The rules of the game are too defined and I do not want to play. Right now, a priority for me is peace in the Middle East and neither one of the candidates are offering that possibility. The death of millions of human beings that is looming in the near future is important to me. It may not be a serious consideration to you but it is to me. There are other matters that are of more concern to me than the cut I will be receiving with my Social Security check. I am not inspired to vote but I will out of obligation and will choose the least problematic…
I may be wrong, but I’ll bet you get your news from the alphabet channels or CNN.
You are wrong. Is that where you get yours?
Please, please, if you are going to vote in the upcoming election, try to keep an open mind and educate yourself on the issues that are important to you.
I am very educated in the issues that are important to me. I don’t want millions of children killed when Romney takes office and I don’t want the slow death of millions by sanction that Obama plans for them either.
If you think Obama has been good for the country and things are better than when he took office and he has brought us together as he promised, then by all means, cast your vote to give him another four years.
Obama has been bad for the country, economically, morally and internationally. He is not a man of his words. He said that he would stop the war but showed that he had a price. Romney was campaigning in Israel.

Yes, I say we clean shop.

Same “mistake” Obama made on Aug 23 2008 when he introduced Biden as the next president of the US.

Ryan has consistently won his district in the mid to high 60s, 7 terms, and Obama, Al Gore and Bill Clinton have won the district twice. It is a moderate district and Ryan can win

He is articulate, and a skilled politician. But, I think the case of Wisconsin shows something interesting about the electorate. In the recall election, the electorate supported Walker, but they also support Obama by the same margin. It will be interesting to see if Ryan can change this, both in Wisconsin and in other states.

Why should we consider your opinion on the matter when you are wrong about most other political issues?
Why yours? This is an opinion Forum, and I don’t think that anyone here is a Congressman, whose actions would actually count. We are mostly hard rightists, a number of conservatives, and a sprinkling of liberals. One can predict what folks on the Forum will say before they say it. 🤷

Some pundits have wondered whether Ryan (or Romney) has enough, or any, foreign-policy experience. However, what experience did Obama or GWB have? I guess that may be the trouble, no? OTOH, the bar today for becoming President or Vice-President is so low that on-the-job training seems to be the preferred method of instruction. Think of some of the past candidates: Eisenhower vs. Stevenson, Nixon vs. Kennedy, George H.W. Bush vs. Clinton. I see a more or less steady decline in the quality of candidates. Then again, I often see a steady decline in the quality of everything.

My guess is that he will trounce Joe Biden in the vice presidential debate.

Announcing the pick at this time was nothing more than a attempt to move the focus off of Romney’s refusal to disclose his tax records. Normally, the VP pick would be announced at the convention.
The VP pick is normally known before the convention. Besides, it’s only about 2 weeks away.

Romney announced his pick on 8/11. Past VP pick dates by candidate:

Obama 8/23
McCain 8/29
Bush 7/25
Kerry 7/6
Gore 8/8
Dole 8/10
Clinton 7/9
Bush 8/16
Dukakis 7/12
Mondale 7/12
Reagan 7/16
It is estimated that Ryan’s budget would push 900,000 more children into extreme poverty, while extending tax breaks to the 1 percent who own more than the bottom 90%.
HHS Child Poverty Rates:

2008 19%
2009 20.7%
2010 22%

Nearly one million more children in poverty from 2009 to 2010. Besides, policies that will grow the economy and promote job creation will help to pull children and families out of poverty.
Ryan may oppose abortion, but…
I cut off the rest of the statement. This is all that we need to know vs our alternative.

Know Church teaching. Know how to vote.

Paul Ryan’s world view brings this election front and center as to what kind of nation we are going to be going forward. One still with some empathy for the less fortunate and those in need. Or one that would be willing in such a severe way to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the sick while continuing to benefit the rich with further tax cuts. I can only say good luck everyone.
Hey CMatt, do the Nuns on the bus have good foresight or what? While everyone was talking tax returns and who said what about whom, they seemed to have had the insider scoop from somewhere!
