Not only was Mitt Romney the wrong choice for President, Paul Ryan is the wrong choice for Vice President. In my opinion, neither of these men represent traditional conservative values, all rhetoric to the contrary.
In my opinion, Romney made another “gaffe” (this seems to be a popular word these days) when he declared Paul Ryan “the intellecutal leader of the GOP” (latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-romney-declares-paul-ryan-the-intellectual-leader-of-the-gop-20120811,0,35529.story). The major mistake made by the Romney’s and the Ryan’s of the GOP is to frame this election about “the economy” and about “stopping Obama.” Unfortunately for Romney and Ryan (and it gives me no pleasure to say this as I could never vote for Obama given his clear anti-life record) when it comes time to the debates, Obama and the Democratic machine is going to pick their records apart, particuarly on abortion (Romney) and particuarly on the economy (Ryan). Ryan certainly sells himself as “pro-economy” and as a traditional conservative, but his record belies that rhetoric. Ryan practically begged FOR the Bailouts (THE primary issue with Tea Party Conservatives). His record on big government spending (entitlements, education, government stimuli) is horrible. Ryan also has a terrible record on foreign policy and appears to be in the pocket of the foreign lobbying group AIPAC (as does Romney and Obama for that matter). The foreign policy of Obama, Romney and Ryan is nearly identical. It only differs in degree. And most importantly, the very voters that Republican Party needs to win the election (independent conservatives and disillusioned Democrats) will never vote for a Romney ticket let alone a Romney/Ryan ticket; they will never vote for these statists. Unfortunately, I think we are in for a repeat of the McCain debacle and I think Obama has already won this thing.
