Philadelphia public school teacher worries about ‘conservative’ parents listening in on virtual classes

Kay said “conservative parents” are his chief concern when teachers are engaging “in the messy work of destabilizing a kid’s racism or homophobia or transphobia.”

By Lucas Manfredi | Fox News

A Philadelphia public school teacher is curious about how educators will cope with “conservative parents" listening in on virtual classes, according to a thread captured on Twitter.

According to a report by the Daily Wire, Matthew Kay, who teaches English at the Science Leadership Academy said on the social media platform that he is concerned about the “damage” that “helicopter parents” might cause if they overhear lessons on topics such as gender and sexuality.
Matt Walsh:
Public school teachers are afraid that you might be able to hear them brainwashing your kids . . .

Ah, you see? Even in the disaster of remote schooling, there is a silver lining.

But but but…

I thought the public schools did not promote LGBT!

They always did when I taught. But then, I had nothing to hide because I wasn’t trying to indoctrinate behind their children behind their backs.

Because you taught “truth.” When speaking truth, you have nothing to hide or worry about. So the question is this: Why is the Philadelphia teacher worried…aren’t they teaching the truth?

Sadly, the teachers have many opportunities to convince and persuade the kiddos in their care to their way of thinking.
And some do tell the kids not to talk about it at home or to paint the parents as ignorant and dangerous (or at least well meaning but stupid).

Once one gets into middle and high school classrooms, it’s easier than ever because it’s part of a child’s development to ‘separate’ from parents, in order to develop their own autonomy. Mom and Dad will already be seen as flawed and the child will be encouraged to seek out the ‘whole truth’ and not just ‘mom’s and dad’s outmoded and failed understanding.

Heck, back in the 1960s and 1970s we kids were taught about all the failures of OUR parents and how their greed led to the depression, WW2, Silent Spring, racism, sexism, etc and how we kids could reject all that.

Funnily enough, now it’s the BOOMERS who are supposedly the ones who failed and led to the 1980s failures, EnRon, Valdez, Climate change, 9/11 etc.

Soon enough it will be the millennials who caused COVID and Whatever else ‘goes wrong.’

Of course the whole end result is that you’ll have entire groups of people who are led to look on entire groups of OTHER people as dangerously stupid enemies. . .solely on the basis of age.

Oh yeah, there’s a tremendous amount of manipulation going on and the kids don’t even see it!

Seriously, teenagers are like first year medical students. They know just enough to be dangerous.

That teacher should be fired for exposing her agenda of indoctrination versus education.

To be explicit is to be found out.

I used to think Oscar Wilde said that, but I’m not sure anymore.

Many years ago, Dover Books (a superb publisher) put out a COLLECTED WIT AND WISDOM OF OSCAR WILDE, which is somewhere around here, someplace. I was sure that was the source. I used the phrase at lot, in my career.

The Amazing Deathbed Conversion of Oscar Wilde

History

By ChurchPOP Editor Oct 27, 2015

Oscar Wilde is one of the most famous 19th century authors and playwrights, having written such works as The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest .

What is less known about him is that, after years of flirting with the Church, he had a death bed conversion to Catholicism.

Why when girls are over 12 do they have to talk with the doctor by themselves? Sometimes supervision can hinder discussion and openness.

Uhm…I really hope your child’s teacher isn’t playing doctor with your preteen daughter 😱

I do. I got a couple of good bios of Oscar. It was literally a death-bed event, and Wilde was unable to speak. Both his friend Ross and Fr. Dunne, who received him, agree he had signaled it was his desire. I have no problem believing that. That I have only a few books on/by Wilde indicates that he is not the sort of subject I would call a long time hobby interest. But my Chesterton interest made me familiar with the fin de siecle/Yellow Book period. And the first book that gave me an intro to Chesterton, Hesketh Pearson’s LIVES OF THE WITS, also had a chapter on Wilde.

And you are very kind.
