Please remember the voters of Ireland......Referendum on abortion this Friday

They would not be overturning the referendum. They would be exercising their right as lawmakers to make law.

a lot of the media promoting repeal the 8th is filled with propaganda, showing pictures of women hugging each other and cheering. it kinda made me nauseated that people react this way to abortion. it’s not something any woman should have to suffer through

the crazier europe gets the happier i am to be in America, not that I dont pray for and grieve those affected by the madness there

@HolySpirit - he won’t win! We’ve read the end of the book, right? He won’t. End of. Maybe society has to get to rock bottom before it can rebuild itself again. Only God can make good ends out of evil means, of course, but maybe that’s the plan.

I find that the most tasteless, really. If it’s such a serious matter, it should be treated with dignity, like they claim the women aren’t!

You’re right. He won’t win.

For myself, personally, I don’t ever want to go down without a fight. I’d be happy if I gave the evil one a good reason to hate me. I never want his work to be any easier than it has to be.

We all live on God’s time. There have been many times during the past 2000 years where people have thought they lived in the end of times only to find out that they were wrong. I don’t want that to happen to me.

The evil one wins when good people go silent.

It’s true. I struggle to articulate my pro life stance among my pro choice Christian and atheist friends often, because there is such a fine line to be trodden with those who have experienced very difficult things. I know women who have had abortions of convenience, I know women who have had late-term terminations because of fatal abmormalities, I know women who have had miscarriages and stillborn children.
I myself have had a number of miscarriages, and, some many years ago, abortions of my own. It is a crushing, debilitating weight on the soul and women deal with it very differently. The worst response is the aggressive defensiveness that you see so often, which I genuinely believe is repressed guilt. I tread carefully because once that kind of thing is riled up, people stop listening.

If lawmakers call a referendum the people’s choice trumps them. See Brexit.

And let’s hope that the a strong and vibrant pro-life movement in Ireland emerges as well. Also to remember, many ardent pro-lifers were once supporters of “choice” not only those who had abortions but also those who worked in abortion facilities and performed abortions (i.e Abby Johnson and Bernard Nathanson). Hopefully, despite this discouraging day, many good Irish people can spring into action.

A part of me is curious and hopeful though that a), hopefully a lot of yes voters actually hold a “soft” anti-abortion stance (think rape, incest and life of the mother) and b) how many of the non-voters are simply discouraged folks who may have stood up for the Eight if they thought it had a chance. That said, hopefully, the Irish pro-life movement can get back up and “fight the good fight” after this loss (i.e pastoral care, community outreach and pro-life education).

The population the size of Indiana yes but with an historical influence in Catholicism that trumps the US short history

The crazier Europe gets? Isn’t abortion legal in the US while still illegal In some European countries. Doesnt the US stir hatred through its ultra violent foreign policy. Doesnt the US lead the heavily secular entertainment industry which leads the way in trying to remove Christianity and ridicule it in the west? Sorry but Americans on here need to realise this mess involves both of us and Ireland a nation that was instrumental in spreading Catholicism through Ireland, Britain, Europe and the US has endorsed the secular culturally completely just as the US and most of Europe had done many years ago

It is more Catholic than the US but unfortunately it is no longer the majority

I think we must accept and realise the seriousness of what had just happened. One of the most instrumental nations for Catholicism in history has endorsed the culture of death completely. The enemy will claim this as a victory but it will only last for a short period. We must continue onwards with our faith and as the world continues its path towards misery and despair do not hate them for they dont understand fully what they are doing, show them mercy and help them understand the truth when they are willing to hear it. Now that secular society has taken over it can no longer blame God and religion for its misery, in fact when people who are immersed in a fully secular culture find no happiness in it then perhaps they will see the error in it and come to the truth

Which Europeans have abortion banned? I thought Ireland was the only one until recently. Also abortion is becoming illegal in a few states, Trump is also blocking a lot of funding toward abortion which heavily relies on taxpayer money

Abortion is illegal in Poland except in cases of rape, severe fetal malformity, and of the life of the mother is in danger.

That’s great then! Good for them. Looks like Poland hasn’t fallen. OLOF was right
