Interesting, ALLFORHIM, but still begs the question–why do we follow the Roman calendar and not the Jewish one? Where was the 'break" made in the Bible? Why do we not follow the “Sabbath” day AND the “Lord’s Day” instead of changing Sabbath for “Sunday”?

For the Sabbath and Sunday are not ‘interchangeable’.

As Christians, we do not celebrate the Jewish Sabbath but rather its fulfillment in “The Lord’s Day”. Because this is a fulfillment, we are not breaking the command to ‘keep holy the Sabbath day’ when we go to church on Sunday.
Actually I believe this goes back to the christians simply making themselves a seperate entity from when the Jews worshipped. I guess wanting to make a complete break from the Jews:shrug:

I dont think we are breaking any commandment by worshipping on Sunday either.👍

If you want to say the worshipping on Sunday’s is part of tradition(small t), I have no problem with that. However, this doesnt prove Sacred Tradition(big T) at all. 🤷

So there have I settled this issue and can you guys move on.👍

Oh about the Roman calendar and why we follow it–probably because it was the biggest empire at the time and it stuck and spread through Europe and eventually came over to the US. I believe everyone follows this calendar except the Jews. Actually the Jewish calendar is the correct one. I dont know why we dont follow it.🤷 Probably because the Jews were suppressed and the Romans were not.🤷 You know step on the little bug.😦

We actually follow the Gregorian calendar. A pope no less

Paul and Peter assert that the Christian Church need not be Jewish or adopt all their laws and customs.

The Tradition then was later made Doctrine at some council or other, do I have to look it up?
I don’t think it will do any good. The disputant does not recognize oral traditions to be authoritative. Those passed into writing after the canon was closed apparently are not recognized either. 🤷

Eph 4:6
One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.

Gal 3:20
Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of one, but God is one.

1Ti 2:5
For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Jam 2:19
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
If you’ve read my posts then you’ll see that I have made the Jehovah’s Witness argument.

I does make sense. The Bible can be translated in that way…

The question is, why do prefer your method of interpretation of the Trinity to theirs of three Gods.

Believe me, anything you can come up with to attack their belief is defended in some way, the same as your belief likely is…

There is no truth in purgatory. Purgatory is not in the Bible no matter how much you say it’s truth.

2Cr 5:8
We are confident, , and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

I think you misunderstand purgatory as somehow not being “with the Lord”. Purgatory is as state of purgation (cleansing) for saved persons who have gotten dirty feet sojouring through the world. In that state, they are separated from any works that are not glorifying to God. (works will be burned up).

But, you are right, the teaching on Purgatory is not founded in scripture, though we can see some of the seeds of it there. Like the canon of scripture, Marian doctrines, the Trinity, the Sunday Sabbath, and many other teachings, we are not limited to scripture in the knowledge of divine revelation.

I strongly suggest you prove purgatory before preaching it.
The truths of my faith are not based on “proofs”, but on divine revelation. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. By His revelation we come to the truth.

These are some of the tenents of my faith. I cannot “prove” any of them to you, but my faith in Jesus is the guiding force in my life.

Furthermore, I am not “preaching” here. I am having discussion. this is the teaching of Jesus and the Apostles. YOu are free to reject it if you so desire.

I go to church on Sun, Wed, Fri ONLY because it’s scheduled for those days. It does not have to be on specific day. The spirits in prison are the demons in hell bound by chains.

The “spirits in prison” in 1Peter 3:19 were demons who sinned against God by “abandoning their proper abode” (Jude 6) in the sons of God / daughters of men incident (Genesis 6:1-4). These spirits were put in prison as punishment for their wicked deeds, and to prevent further occurrences of such wicked and ungodly actions.
Wow! that is a first.

Do you believe the 10 commandments are still valid?

If not, why not?

If so, what does it mean when it says to remember the Sabbath Day, and keep it holy?

What about all the souls of the just?

Who were the people that came out of their graves after Jesus released the imprisoned souls?

Where do you think people went before the gates of heaven were opened by Jesus?

Not answering the issue–so I’ll keep coming back–where is Sunday worship found in the Bible?

Demons are wicked spirits; they could not profit from any preaching by our Lord since they do not follow Him, nor will they ever. So no go on this. And you still have yet to account where this prison is.
Maybe he thinks that the devils can be coverted?

And like I said, neither is Sunday worship, yet you follow it, yes? So why do you go to church on Sunday? Or are you going to ignore this issue? [/qutoe]

Please be careful not to make assumptions. “Believers” may be one of those Protestants who worships God literally in his closet, and has no fellowship with other Christians on any day of the week at all. Or, he may be one of those Christians who worships on Saturdays due to the fact that (as you have pointed out) Sunday worship is not explicitly enjoined on us anywhere in the Scriptures.

Do not assume that all Protestants worship together in their communities on Sundays - there are a great many who don’t assemble together for worship at all, and a great many who choose other days of the week upon which to assemble together.

I though my reply was off topic, but this …I don’t even understand this?
From posts #44 and #174.

I was being sarcastic about Imam Madhi,
whose foolish writings paarsurrey uses to interpret the Bible, while suggesting that Catholics do not use their own reason.

He did not allow some other person to be crucified in his place, as you assert
Hi
I never mentioned that some other person was put on the Cross, it was Jesus who was put on the cross. This means you shall have to read my posts again for a prpoer reply,
Thanks

A minor difference. We should avoid being so trivial. Let’s see if I can remember what the verse says…

“Behold, not him, but another in his place…”

Ya, I think that that is it…

Oh! So when you wrote in your previous post that He could never have been crucified, because He would be cursed for hanging on a tree? so, was he in a coma when he was taken down? Not really dead, just looked dead? They thought He was dead, so they put Him in the tomb? Or maybe you don’t believe He was buried either?

This belongs on another thread. But it is also most possibly the most glaring example here of the thread title!

1Th 5:21
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

2Ti 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Ti 4:4
And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Jud 1:17
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Jud 1:18
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

You forgot to put something in bold. Now it is much better…

Exactly…
