Yeah. Me too. Also, I don’t trust Pentin or Lifesite News. I would like some real journalists and some kind of corroboration of this before I buy it.”
Then don’t read them, honestly. Go to the primary source whenever possible (the Testimony is linked above) and used a wide variety of secondary sources to help with interpretation, questions, etc., after you’ve read the primary source. That’s the path I took this time around anyway, and I’m really glad I did.

It feels like our church is coming apart at the seams.

He (old man) has very little to do with it. However, as Don Bosco foresaw, long ago, the Church is coming under heavy fire at the moment. We can’t let the media tell us what to believe.

Well, it was Shea who said he didn’t trust those sources… But it’s always good to remind people to check all sources.

I don’t let the media dictate my position on anything else, why would I let them tell me what to think on something important to me?

Media schmedia. Most of them couldn’t cover their own office catching on fire

IIt’s in the secular media now too. Still just allegations at this point, but it’s definitely a fact that the archbishop is making these allegations.

We’re the minority otherwise there wouldn’t be two weeks of endless freaking out over the “impending” collapse of the Church ⛪:man_shrugging:t2:

With what I have already been through in the last couple of years, I frankly don’t have brain space to sit around worrying if the Church will collapse over every little thing. The Lord is just going to have to take care of His church and take care of me too because as James Taylor said, “I won’t make it any other way.” Fortunately, He’s God, so I think He’s got this.

Interesting. I would say I trust Pentin more than Lifesite, but even Pentin seems to be more zealous these days. The list of public appearances is a good point.

By the way, I’ve been hearing strange laughs in the hallway… Is that you Grace Poole? (Apologies if you don’t get the Jane Eyre reference)

Not really. The fact he asked the Pope to resign has me questioning his Catholicity. That is not a Catholic way of thinking.

Don’t use this as an excuse to leave the Catholic Church because it isn’t. And don’t blame the Church for the actions of a few.

God is using all these scandals as a test. Persevere and let this make you stronger in your faith.

As for the people saying they’re considering leaving on account of this even being possible, are you serious? You know the Church killed and tortured a lot of people in the Inquisition, right? Ever hear of the Sack of Constantinople? What about the fact the Church condemned the African slave trade just vaguely enough that all of Catholic Europe kept doing it for three centuries, while the Vatican barely made any protest?
I think asking the pope to resign is not right and it is not something i would support but I would disagree with your 3 points.

Firstly the balance of the Spanish inquisition files were opened in the mid to early 1990’s and they showed a Spanish state abusing the process largely at the protests of the papacy. That is not to say the church acted always in a correct manner. That is never going to happen with any institution over such a large timescale. But it is true that the Spanish inquisition was far gentler than the secular equivalent of the times and the opened documents showed that clearly.

Secondly, the sack of Constantinople happened in the fourth Crusade who ignored papal directions and accepted a delegation from Alexios IV who wanted to put him back on the throne. He was recently deposed and the deposed king agreed to give the crusaders the money they needed to fulfil their contractual obligations with the Venetians who spent the last two years building the ships needed by the crusaders. The pope directly told them not to do it and they were threatened with excommunication and then excommunicated at the gates of Constantinople when they refused.

Thirdly not all of Catholic Europe participated in the Arab run slave trade and there were protests from the church and great heroes who fought against it. As with number 1 there are always going to be people who do the wrong thing. This one i’ll agree more than the others that the church should have spoken out more strongly but it was Christian Europe who did eventually put an end to slavery not just in the Americas but on a global scale, which is a tremendous feat that is not recognized in the western secular school textbooks.

That would be purgatory or hell on earth.

All of these people who say that Vigano has an ax to grind are themselves in denial of the corruption in the Vatican and with the Pope.

Wuerl denies he was informed of Vatican restrictions on McCarrick

Washington D.C., Aug 25, 2018 / 10:01 pm ([CNA](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/)).- Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington has denied a report that he was informed about restrictions apparently placed by the Vatican upon his predecessor, Archbishop Theodore McCarrick.
“Cardinal Wuerl did not receive documentation or information from the Holy See specific to Cardinal McCarrick’s behavior or any of the prohibitions on his life and ministry suggested by Archbishop Vigano,” the cardinal’s spokesman, Ed McFadden, told CNA.
Wuerl does not dispute that he discussed with the archbishop a vocational promotion. However, according to McFadden, “Archbishop Vigano presumed that Wuerl had specific information that Wuerl did not have.”
While McCarrick is reported to have moved from Redemptoris Mater Seminary, McFadden said that “Cardinal Wuerl categorically denies that he was ever provided any information regarding the reasons for Cardinal McCarrick’s exit for the Redemptoris Mater Seminrary.”
