That i why it is right for him to come out with this. Better be prepared to have a happy death.

If only there was someone who could corroborate if he actually sanctioned McCarrick because he knew of abuse.

🤔

Pope Benedict is still alive and of sound mind. Would he have just kept this quiet for the entire time Pope Francis has been Pope?

If what he is saying is true, why did it take so long for him to come forward?

Has anyone else corroborated his accounts?

Sounds more like political manuvering to keep his own name clean.

Via Catholic Exchange:

Not one to mince words, St. Catherine’s letters moved popes and politicians to action. In urging Gregory XI to leave Avignon and re-establish the Papacy in Rome she wrote:

“Since [Christ] has given you authority and you have accepted it, you ought to be using the power and strength that is yours. If you don’t intend to use it, it would be better and more to God’s honor and the good of your soul to resign….If I were in your place, I would be afraid of incurring divine judgment.” Later in her letter she continued, “Cursed be you, for time and power were entrusted to you and you did not use them!”

That’s what is needed. Did Cardinal McCarrick disappear from public ministry for several years?

Although, to be clear, the pdf linked to above of the full thestimony is provided by LifeSiteNews. I believe the translator is someone who works for LSN.

I’ve followed Vigano since his time as nuncio, and he has always struck me as a straight shooter. But I agree that parts of the testimony read like conjecture. He didn’t directly tell Francis about what McCarrick was accused of doing. Saying he corrupted generations of priests and seminarians could have been interpreted as Vigano simply thinking McCarrick’s theology was dangerous. It’s still not necessarily true that Pope Francis knew all these details since 2013.

Wouldn’t Francis want to ask “What do you mean?”?

Dio of Los Angeles reportedly paid out over $500 million to abuse victims. Why does Mahoney still have a red hat?

We could end up with someone worse. Look at the pool of job applicants.

In my opinion, the homily we SHOULD have heard is that every Catholic priest… EVERY ONE… will ask themselves the question Joshua poses to the children of Israel in the first reading: “Choose today who you will serve”. Because it’s not the demon above you in the hierarchy, nor the ineffectual (and now, it looks like complicit) Pope that you serve, it is God almighty. And if you choose to serve God, actively do what you can to root out the demons that are woven into the very fabric of our church!

Is this 1517 or 2018? I think August 25, 2018 will go into history as a significant date.

Already on this forum you can see two points of view developing:
  1. Francis should resign. He is not the answer to the problem, he is PART of the problem.
  2. Vigano is leading a palace coup and leading the conservative faction. Or a variation, he is lying.
It seems to me that the analogy is that you have gangrene. Your doctor doesn’t think it’s serious. As time goes on, he recommends drinking more water. Another doctor comes along and says “No, this will kill you. You have to act now. You have to amputate your leg!!!”

I am in favor of #1.

Wow…there really are some judgemental Catholics here on CAF…a Cardinal has made an accusation against the Vicar of Christ…and already the knives are out stabbing him in the back…no matter he hasn’t had time to respond to this attack as yet…he’s been judges guilty by the Pharisees

Apparently, any “sanctions” against McCarrick were so super secret they were never enforced because he was involved in a number of events between 2010 and 2013. And why would any censure be secret anyway? 2 other Bishops who were censured under Benedict were publicly censured, no secret.

I’m willing to be convinced this isn’t accurate, but Pope Francis better come forward with a strong rebuttal backed up by evidence, or #resign.
