Pope suggests Trump: not Christian

I live in a country that’s busily tearing down a pontiff using the caricatured arguments of a big orange clown that may one day be its president as the basis for a parable about working for the common good.

I feel like I went to sleep one day and woke up in some strange dimension where up is down and cats and dogs like each other and there are episodes of two and a half men that aren’t mediocre derivative drivel.
I think calling a politician such a name is uncharitable.

My humor may grate, and if I go too far I apologize, but it’s all only for satire. Quite honestly come November I’m probably going to be voting for the “big orange clown.”

edit: I tend to speak in extreme manners to humorously point out absurdities, I’m sure Mr. Trump is a fine, stand-up man in his life and I wish him the best in all endeavors he sets out for.

The fact is that some conservative Catholics here in the US have their collective noses out of joint by some of the comments that Pope Francis has made because they see him as too “liberal” in his comments on certain teachings of the Catholic Church and also because they perceive him as not “conservative” enough for their political views…and I stand by my comment that to imply by innuendo that Pope Francis is somehow soft on abortion or doesn’t stand up for those aborted babies when he has condemned abortion as horrific…when he has in no way intimated at any change in church teaching on abortion…then yes…to insinuate otherwise is to accuse the Vicar of Christ of heresy…if that isn’t anti Catholic in the extreme then what is.
God gave us free will.

I believe this forum has areas in it where it states one can disagree with the Pope, but to just be respectful of Him. I don’t even think I saw a poster even saying they disagreed with the Pope but they questioned on why He might not address other things as emphatically. I see no great wrong in that.

Also, perhaps these issues were raised and the poster could be mistaken in their understanding, that can happen as well. This is covered by the press, other things are not as much.

Yes, but take heart, we are supposed to happy people no matter what comes out
Our way
I don’t feel sad.
I feel sad for the Catholics who have been tearing down our Pope. Choosing a billionaire over a humble Vicar of Christ. I feel sad for them because they cannot see what they are doing.
When I was young I left the Catholic Church and railed against it. All the usual accusations, Anti-Christ, Whore of Babylon.
If I could go back and change those words I would. But all I can do is warn people that one day you will be where I am now.
And you WILL regret it.

I would think you would have had these feelings before hand being that you live in a country with a government that is pretty much anti Catholic, is pro contraception, pro abortion, redefined marriage, and is a supporter of the Planned Parenthood that you’ve seen in the latest videos.

I suppose I should have but I only converted almost a year ago and before that I was a socialist so let me just say life has been rather surreal lately

It does feel a bit like an extended episode of Twliight Zone.
It’s like that movie “Idiocracy.” I guess in our celebrity obsessed culture, it was only a matter of time before the low information voters found their perfect low information candidate.

Thank God for Pope Francis.

Yes, that movie seems more and more prescient by the day. I halfway hope that Trump wins the Presidency just so the mask is off for all time, and America can more fully live up to it’s worldwide laughingstock-status. Not that anything can or will change that.

And those are good points…but it doesn’t help when Catholics make sarcastic remarks about Pope Francis having walls around the Vatican…which has nothing to do with a border wall between the US and Mexico
I think though that it is very fair. I know many have stated that they wonder if the Pope has seen the wall from America’s perspective.

Here’s the thing. I am horrified by talks about getting rid of birthright citizenship, deport them all. We need to absolutely fix our system.

However, I do feel for the security of our own country, we need to secure our border. Why is Mexico talking so much about the wall and not the other things. By doing that Americans aren’t even willing to hear the other points about showing kindness to other…

We get to have orderly entrance system.

Here’s the thing Mexico is 15 GDP nation. They are rich in resources and are a rich country. It is the corruption in Mexico that is the issue. And they have made that illegal immigration a huge part of their economy.

Perhaps the United States saying no more and also getting control of our border, will end the drug trade.

I believe in compassion to people. But I actually do think it’s fair to point out the walls in the Vatican…

We need to fix our system and yes allow more people from our near neighbor to come in as economic refugees. But we also should shore up our border’s because the trip isn’t safe. People shouldn’t be sending little kids on that trip…

I am still in a bit shock from last night. I was driving near the borders of Mexico . And we actually have numerous check points in the United States. That’s how serious this border issue is.

I agree

It truly is amazing the path a life can take.

Welcome aboard!

It is democracy at it’s most base.

Not Very charitable or Christian, belittle thousands of people but as long as one can say Well, “Thank God for Pope Francis”, one can claim the higher ground.

Thanks. I’ve been meaning to tell you that every single post of yours in this thread has been excellent. You’ve said what I was thinking but expressed it better than I ever could.

Good luck to your guy Rubio tomorrow!

Right. Better that we should thank God for Rush Limbaugh. 😃

It’s a bit ironic you are calling a leading Presidential candidate supported by millions of decent Americans a “big orange clown,” while at the same time criticizing those on here for allegedly “tearing down” the pontiff. As people have pointed out, there is a difference between attacking someone (such as calling someone a clown like you are doing:shrug:) and critiquing a political matter regarding USA immigration policy.

Also, calling his supporters “low information” and dumb is highly uncharitable and un-Christian indeed.

Thank you. I sincerely appreciate that. 🙂

I think the problem is how Trump lashed out at the Pope and it seems clear he did not have all the information.

Also, the Pope is the Vicar of Christ, and deserves the respect of his office, which seemed lacking in some posts.

Finally, what the Pope said was 100% in line with the faith and the Gospel and the Pope is the world’s number authority regarding faith and morals. It seems in recent years some Catholics forget who the Pope is…successor of Peter, Pastor of the entire Church on earth, and the only man on earth who holds the keys to the kingdom.

But back to the topic… Pope is infallible speaking on faith and morals. Pope is just a man when it comes to U.S. immigration policy.
He is more than that. Even when he is not speaking infallibly, as the successor to Peter and God’s chosen leader of the Church, he is to be respected with humility by us who were not so chosen.
