Pope: World powers did nothing about Auschwitz

Just because you keep saying it doesn’t make it so. The Allies weren’t trying to end the Holocaust – they hadn’t even publicly acknowledged that it was taking place. Their focus was on the war.
If the Allies weren’t trying to end the Holocaust, then why do we have so many examples of US soldiers liberating Concentration camps? If the Allies, as you and the Pope seem to assert, truly did nothing, it would have been far easier to just bypass those camps. Taking care of the inmates used valuable resources, especially medical resources, that could have been used otherwise. You weren’t going to end the Holocaust until you defeated the Nazi regime. Any resources that weren’t dedicated to ending the Nazi regime would only have prolonged the Holocaust. The Nazis didn’t need rail lines or even Concentration camps to kill their perceived enemies. They did a very good job of it using firing squads and mass graves long before the camps were set up.

There’s not much the West could have done to get Eastern Europe out of Stalin’s hands.
General Patton spoke for going to war with the Russians after he saw what happened to Eastern Europe. In the meantime, Winston Churchill ordered a plan called Operation Unthinkable to be drawn up and reviewed by his military planners. They concluded that the war would be long and difficult, and require the reactivation of the German Army and the Waffen SS.

This is a simplistic view not based on extensive historical research. I have seen a photo taken by an American bomber of a target identified as Oświęcim, the Polish name for what the Germans called Auschwitz. The camp complex consisted of barracks style housing. On the camp grounds was a synthetic rubber plant (German word - Buna) that produced no synthetic rubber at all during the war. The largest chemical cartel in the world, IG Farben, knew how to construct such factories but its construction was beset by delays and strangely, it was under joint Army-Luftwaffe-SS control.

Firing squads were busy with partisans, and executing others. I know of a person who survived such a mass killing by playing dead, and later, escaping.

Qualified historians are still somewhat unsure why Allied Intelligence and Allied governments did little to help.

The American forces that liberated the camps had no idea what was occurring at them – they were stunned. Read up on their experiences and you’ll easily see that they definitely weren’t expecting to find death camps. They did not know that the Holocaust was occurring. This is different than what governments knew.

And your source for this is…?

I’ve already responded (and refuted) these points.
