Praising Trump on Catholic Answers Radio

Agreed. I was listening to a show the other day (Patrick Madrid, maybe), and a caller started in on a rant about the plight of the white male and that white people had created most of the best inventions in the world—you should have seen my face! White supremacists on Catholic radio? I turned it off right then and there and haven’t tuned in since. That was just way out of line, and I’ve switched to listening to talk shows from Protestant and BYU radio shows—which this week have featured talks on forgiveness, making daily prayer a habit, and scripture study. A refreshing change from Relevant Radio, which seems to be heading into a Fox News/24 hour Abortion talk radio. 🤢
So, you didn’t listen to hear how the host responded? Maybe the host would have surprised you by being in your corner more than you realize. If you’re going to listen to call-in shows, sometimes there are slightly kooky people who call in.

Yes, I did. The host let him speak on this note for far too long, and eventually responded with “Now you want to be careful, you’re treading on dangerous territory these days. People don’t like hearing that kind of thing.” I felt it was more of a “let’s keep this politically correct because there may be snowflakes listening.” His tone sounded very much like he was in the guys corner but was cautioning the caller to toe the line. That’s when I turned it off. So disappointing coming from a Catholic station.

President Trump should be admired by Catholics for his Pro Life stance and support of religious liberty.

…plight of the white male and that white people had created most of the best inventions in the world… White supremacists on Catholic radio?
That’s a pretty low bar for calling someone a white supremacist. You must be fun at parties.

If a president does well, he he deserves kudos.
If he fouls up, he deserves censure.
All the presidents we ever had did some good and some bad.

But it’s a mark of maturity to be able to say: “I will never vote for this guy because of his stance on X. But in this case, he acted well and prudently.”

(When I was a kid, people used to actually do this—be able to parse the good from the bad. People nowadays are more likely to be Black And White thinkers)

I stopped listening to him because of stuff like this. I will still occasionally listen but not that often anymore.

As to the idea that Patrick Madrid being sympathetic to white supremacists…

You do realize that he is Hispanic, right???

Does anyone here realize that detraction is a sin?

Patrick is one of the most kind harted individuals I have ever listened to on the radio. And I find it deplorable that others would speak of him this way when he is not here to defend his own character.

I did not say it was Patrick Madrid—I said it was a radio show that may have been his. I did not identity him as the host.

Patrick or another host…

Detraction is still a sin.

Our Catholic Church teaches that we are to assume the best intentions of others.

I can’t imagine ANY of the hosts on relevant radio being sympathetic to white supremisists

I think simple justice demands an apology or evidence of the accusations being true.

I hear you. I don’t so much take issue with the hosts, but some of the callers seem aggressively right wing. In fact, I find Patrick Madrid an amazingly patient host, especially with some of the wackadoodles that call in.

Pope Praises Trump Meeting With North Korean Leader

I guess it’d be ok for Catholic Answers to reference THIS now.

Blessed are the Peacemakers. Notwithstanding that we don’t REALLY know the hearts of Trump OR Kim … the Church is to encourage true peacemaking … which generally takes place where there had previously NOT been peace … or where improving a situation is at least beginning to get a shot.

Catherine Hadro has praised Trump on EWTN Pro-Life Weekly, has she not?

If a Christian can’t praise Trump for doing more for religious freedom and the pro life cause than any other president, then they are putting their politics above their religion. It’s really that simple. 🤷‍♀️

On the other hand, he should not be admired because of the way he treats his family, friends, and those who do not support him.
Add to that his obsession with lying.
Lets no even get into his relationships with women.

Or maybe not.
Or maybe he’ll change his mind later… I’ve no interest in the politics around him right now. This man has been in public spotlight for nearly 40 years. He has a long history of saying and doing anything for attention and praise. I personally can’t see any sort of guiding principles in his life other than having an unparalleled ability to promote himself. If he happens to support something you care about and sticks to it you are one lucky person indeed.

I think there is a fundamental difference between praising good policies of the Trump Administration vs praising the man himself.

I’ve heard many in Catholic Radio praise select POLICIES of the Trump Administration, but I’ve honestly never heard any host praise Trump the man.

Now, I’ve heard some guests or most specifically people calling in, praising Trump. But I have never heard a host praise / endorse Trump the man.

If someone has a clip of that, please forward the link. However, my money is on the fact that they were really praising policies of the Trump Administration, and not specifically him as a person.

BTW - it’s also important to remember that we Catholics are ALWAYS called to pray for our leaders, regardless if we agree with them or not.

God Bless

I’m not Psychologist by any means, though my sister is a practicing consular. But if again we keep out of basic politics, he objectively meets the profile of a narcissist, a very adept one too. I there are of course plenty of people taken by his “tell it like it is” attitude or charm.

What I think should concern anyone, though, even if you like his general policies, is that he sticks to what he says. It’s not hard to pull up public video footage where he says one thing and the switches to the other side. Yes good leaders should be capable of this, but it should represent a real change in either core values or ones that help adapt to identified goals.

Are really good example of this is him crossing the boarder with Kim Jong Un recently. The North Korean leader has done nothing to deserve this honor. Trump knew a photo op when he saw one and will add this one to his brag bag, but again he never accomplished anything substantive.
