AND if he does’nt??? Maybe your glass is only half full.
As far as praying for Mr. White I’m in it for the long haul. Ya see, it was his angry rants that helped me to convert and to also see the hatred and judegment I’d fallen into as an evangelical believer in Jesus, and I thank him for that.

Trust me, I have some beautiful evengelical Protestant friends who I love dearly and they reflect the love of Christ. I spent several hours last night on the phone with a Protestant brother, a beautiful soul who loves Jesus Christ and His word, a gentle soul and we both walked away from the phone call encouraged and strengthened.

James white on the other hand is not a healthy person and for one to ignore this is shameful. He’s a debate junky, enslaved to arguing, slandering and destroying the character of other people. This goes beyond attempting to show another person the errors of his/ her faith, he attacks the actual person and that simply is not acceptable according to scripture, that goes for Catholics as well or anyone who participates in hate dialouge. There hearts need to be converted because hatred and malicious anger are not of Christ but anti-christ.

Aside from what you believe about his teachings, to turn your eyes away from the fact that he’s doing these things and even particiapte in the demoralizing others is problematic in the sense that it in no way reflects the character of Jesus Christ, just the opposite frankly. So I would suggest praying for your brother James White as well, that he would be released from anger and turn toward Jesus Christ who is pure love, and love is the greatest commandment. And remember the mandate from scripture that he who hates his brother has not the Father or the Son.

2:3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.
2:4 One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments,
is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.
2:5 But whoever keeps his word,
God’s love has most assuredly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:
2:6 he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.
2:9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother,
is in the darkness even until now.
2:10 He who loves his brother remains in the light,
and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
2:11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness,
and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Now I’m sure you’ll probably want to argue about this to “conquer” me, but I ask sincerely, please study the above passages, look at what the man is doing and ask yourself if he’s in line with scripture.

The Word of God warns us against deciet and guile, against puffed up pride, against boasting and arrogence, malicious slander, all these things Catholic or non catholic are wrong and these attitudes need to be converted to Christ. Paul says “let your gentleness be evident to all”, are we living that?

Peace in Christ,

Where is that in the Bible?

“On this Rock I will build MY Church”. Dont seem too invisible, or an ambigeous body of believers to me.:hmmm:
The word “church” comes from the Greek “ekklesia” which means “gathering” or “assembly.” Therefore, the church is the gathering of the believers who come together to participate in fellowship with one another as they worship God and hear from His Word, the Bible. The church as a whole has been equipped by with people possessing different spiritual gifts (Rom. 12:5-8). The purpose of the gifts is “for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ,” (Eph. 4:12-13).
The Christian church was founded by Jesus and He is its head and Savior, (Col. 1:18; Eph. 5:23). Being in the church, the Christian is subject to the Lordship of Jesus (Eph. 5:24) through the administration of the Word of God.
The Bible does not provide a detailed method of Church government. But, it does state that there are to be elders who govern in the church. These elders are appointed by the laying on of hands (1 Tim. 4:14; 2 Tim. 1:6). They to be able to teach sound doctrine and refute error (Titus 1:9; 1 Tim. 3:2).
The purpose of the church is to both glorify God and to inform the world about the work of Christ as Redeemer.

Some questions/answers are as follows:
  1. Where does the Bible say That Scripture is the only source for proof?
  2. Additional references to Catholic Traditions you forgot to include: The Bible, The Trinity, Worship on Sundays, Manogonomy, Celebration of Christ’s Birth (Christ-MASS),shall I go on? You see you can not get around it if you are consistant with your logic. Many acts of Christian Worship or Faith life are rooted in Catholic Traditions. If properly understood, investigated and reconsiled with the whole of the Bible, ALL Catholic traditions are in Harmony with Scripture. :newidea:
Please address at least item number one. I look forward to your answer. 👍

Forum rules state that you post references when copying literature from other sites. Your explanation comes from CARM. Since you are new here we will give you a free pass this time. 😃

Furthermore, we could have two different churches that disagree on the non-essentials, but are still Christian since they affirm the essentials.
Hello ThankfulServant

Could you show me in the Bible where the “essentials” and “non-essentials” are out lined at? Is there even an agreement between the Churches on what is essential and non-essential? Also where is the verse that says it is ok to disagree on these “non-essentials”? Provinding of course there is a list of them.

God bless

Actually, no, it’s not all that charitable. If I had a thin skin, I would probably take offense. Since I don’t, no worries.
How is it less charitable than the call to pray for his conversion, regardless of who’s wrong or right? If he thinks he’s right and Catholics are trapped in Roman Catholicism, then it’s the charitable thing to do to try and help them out. Just like you should assume the original poster’s intentions are charitable in praying for his conversion to Catholicism.

Gee - FUNNY how you missed John 17:20-22, where Jesus emphatically requests of the Father:
**"… that they may be ONE, as we are ONE…". **
NOTICE how he DIDN’T say, “That they mey be 33,000 different, quarreling denominations”??
How about Ephesians 4:4-6:

**"… ONE body and ONE Spirit, as you were also called to the ONE hope of your call; ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism; **ONE God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
**The Catholic Church was ONE for over a thousand years before the Eastern Schisn and 1500 years before the confusion of the Protestant “Reformation”. ANYthing and EVERYTHING that needed to be fixed inside the Church at the time of the Reformation SHOULD have been fixed from within. Instead, the self-righteous “reformers” chose to leave the fullness of truth and started their own unique “versions” of the truth. **
**You REALLY think that’s what Jesus was asking of the Father?? Get REAL, my friend! **
Spiritual pride is at the core of every Protestant “denomination”.
I will pray for James White and ALL Protestants to come back to the waiting arms of Jesus and the fullness of the truth of his Gospel - and to never again reject ONE ioda of that TRUTH.

Mr White states:

When I speak about Roman Catholicism, I have done everything in my power to be accurate in what I am saying. I have taken the time to read what the other side has to say.

When I study about reformed baptists, I have done everything in my power to be accurate in how I interpret their theology. I have taken the time to read what the other side has to say. If my conclusions tell me that it is a false religion, teaching a false gospel, am I compelled to tell all reformed baptists that they are in grave danger? Should I begin a website that is heavily weighed toward bringing to light the errors of the reformed baptists? Should I begin to vigorously debate reformed baptists so that I can show them their errors?
If that’s what the Spirit of God impelled you toward.

True…but when there is so much scripture that validates Catholic belief as opposed to n-C beliefs that have only been around for some 500 years or so, the Catholic Church buries the cases of n-C interpretations.First off… nowhere in the Word of God does it say that everything that Christians believe has to be spelled out in the Bible. In fact there is a very substantial case for Sacred Tradition that is made in the Word of God. Clearly in your interpretation perhaps, but that does not invalidate the teachings of the Catholic Church over the 2,000 years of Christian history. When there is more than ample evidence both from the New Testament and from the writings of the early church that plainly show that they were Catholic in their beliefs and that the beliefs of modern post reformation doctrinal step children do not align with either the New Testament or the Early Church’s writings, who do you think I’m going to believe?Nice scattergun.

Too bad there are articles that refute every one of your opposing views on those topics on the CA Mainsite Library and they are nothing new.More credible than the myriad of doctrinal confusion that passes for n-C Christianity.Indeed they do.

In 99.99% of the time they can indeed. The other percent is based of Christian history and tradition, and since the Word of God does not teach that it is the sole authority for all that Christians believe, that is no problem…except perhaps for those adhering to an errant doctrine that says that the Bible is the sole authority…but even that is not agreed upon as to what that means as we have found here again and again. There is not a single Catholic teaching that contradicts the Bible.

It may contradict your personally held interpretation of something, but that does not invalidate the truth. Knock yourself out. Most of your so called objections would fall apart if you actually looked into what the Catholic Church really teaches, but don’t come in here expecting us to play by your rules.

The first thing you have to understand is that we do not believe in any form of the n-C doctrine of Sola Scriptura.See most all of my post above…

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.
First, why the large font? Do you think the larger the font the more valid your words?

The first church, its growth, doctrine, and practices, were recorded for us in the New Testament. Jesus, as well as His apostles, foretold that false teachers would arise, and indeed it is apparent from some of the New Testament epistles that these apostles had to fight against false teachers early on.

Having a pedigree of apostolic succession or being able to trace a church’s roots back to the “first church” is nowhere in Scripture given as a test for being the true church. What is given is repeated comparisons between what a false teachers teach and what the first church taught, as recorded in Scripture. Whether a church is the “true church” or not is determined by comparing its teachings and practices to that of the New Testament church, as recorded in Scripture.

How do we determine whether a church is teaching correct doctrine or not? The only infallible standard that Scripture says that we have is the Bible (Isaiah 8:20; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Matthew 5:18; John 10:35; Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 2:25; Galatians 1:6-9).

Tradition is a part of every church, and that tradition must be compared to God’s Word, lest it go against what is true (Mark 7:1-13). While it is true that the cults and sometimes orthodox churches twist the interpretation of Scripture to support their practices; nonetheless, Scripture, when taken in context and faithfully studied, is able to guide one to the truth.

The “first church” is the church that is recorded in the New Testament, especially in the Book of Acts and the Epistles of Paul. The New Testament church is the “original church” and the “one true church.”

How about for starters John 3:16-18? If a person doesn’t believe in Christ they are condemned. Would this be an essential?

Hello justasking

I take it you can’t show me in the Bible where the essentials and non-essentials are outlined? Maybe you could answer my other question, do the churches agree on what all the essentials are or are not? For example, would infant Baptism be considered an essential for Lutherans? What about for Baptist?

God bless

I have no qualms about this.

and I am not James White. Just a new fan who appreciates his adherence to scripture and his cocky attitude. 😃
His adherence to scripture? Doe not the scripture say, “let your gentleness be evident to all”?

I’m not sure if “cocky” is a virtue worthy of admiration…but hey…whatever floats your boat. :tiphat:

Church Militant has been here for years. His large font has become a familiar and welcome signature of his writing style. You will get used to it…and you may learn some things too! 😛

Well I was sort of hoping you’d give me your definition since you are the one that maintains that “faith in Christ” is “all” one needs.

I have faith in Christ. So I guess I must be good.

How about the openly practicing homosexual Bishop. He has “faith in Christ” I guess he’s good too?

Chuck
If you cannot define “faith in Christ” in any tangible way, then that is something you will need to work on.

I have never seen that behavior from James White. Have you ever seen the very cordial debates with Fr. Pacwa? I submit that you have no basis for this shameful attack.

Sooooo, anti-protestant apologists are not debate junkies? If he is right, how is being strong in his convictions and the delivery of the message affect the veracity of his claims??

Your basing decisions on how someone says something, not on the contents of WHAT their saying?

Can you really see into his heart and assume his motives? I see his zeal in lifting up God and Scripture and defending orthodoxy. How should one feel when error is being spread as truth even without malicous intent? I would certainly hope you can back up your assertions about deciet, guile, malicious slander. I do not think you can. Please dont fall to the pot calling the kettle black.
