Jim, how are you?

Chapter 35 from the excellent The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis:Jim,
I am new to Catholic Forums, and I just read through the whole thread. Your faith and positive outlook regarding your illness and suffering has boistered my own. I have some health issues that have caused much pain in my life (I am having surgery myself this Friday). I am sure that in comparison mine has not been as horrible as I thought. At one point, I started doubting the presence of God, in fact. When I am at my lowest, though, He sends a disciple along the way to tell me what I need to hear (and smack me up side the head if needed). The past few days have been tough with my illness, and I was headed into a sour mood, but reading this thread has invigorated me and has reminded me who I am and whose I am. Ericka
Ericka, thank you for your prayers and kind words. That chapter from the Imitation of Christ was written for sufferers, and you came to mind as I read your post. If you do not have the book, it is compact and quite affordable at Catholic book stores. It will serve you well as you recuperate post-op. It will serve you the rest of your life, no matter how long you live!Jim,
I feel blessed just knowing you, even if it is through the interweb. I am facing not just this surgery on Friday, but possibly ones in the future. The particular surgery has, from what I’ve heard, a very painful rehab period. I can only hope that through the next few months or so that I can face my sufferings and burdens with just a percentage of the faith and grace you have.
I am praying for healing for you. May the Lord bless and keep you.
Ericka
