Again, thank you and may God bless all of you for your continuing, and especially for your new prayers. The more that are in conversation with God, the better. It gives real, tangible meaning to my blessing of cancer. For, if my affliction does not lead many to a deeper relationship with the Lord, it is almost for naught.
As to my treatment, I was given a slight reprieve today. I received only two of the chemicals rather than three. Doctor wants my body to heal a little bit longer before he uses the long-acting chemo on me again. During my infusion, I finished reading a book entitled Lessons from the School of Suffering, written by Fr. Jim Willig (R.I.P.). It chronicles his journey through varios treatments for his rare renal-cell cancer, all of which proved futile.
As I read it, I realized that I had already learned many of the things that he did. We were walking the same road although, perhaps, at different times of the year. He never took his eyes off of Jesus, Who was his strength. Wonderful advice for al of us, both the afflicted and the well. For, if we have good conversations with the Lord on a regular basis, it will be just that much easier to go deeper into that same conversation when affliction arrives.
One of the wisest quotes from the book is “I do not know what my future holds, but I know Who holds my future”.
May Christ’s peace, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, and the love of God the Father be with all of you.
