Do you think that any of what Paul taught in the Temple of Tyrannus for two years is not part of the Gospel? Do you think, every day for two whole years, he failed in his calling from God to preach the gospel?
I will agree with you that it is possible to be saved on the readers digest version. However, why settle for it?

My question is why is there a need to settle for anything else
AshleyBelle:
You are again making false assumptions about the Catholic faith. As long as you continue to believe that we don’t think Christ’s sacrifice is “worth settling for” nothing we have to say is going to matter to you.
And again you are making rash statements by not keeping the “context” of the postings in mind.

I was responding specifically to another poster’s comments.
As long as *you *continue to do so - nothing I say will matter to you. 🤷

She points us to her son!
We’re all supposed to point to Jesus.

The body of Christ The Church is supposed to point the world to Jesus. It’s what The Church is here for.

Also, if she points us to Jesus why do you want to pray to her when she is pointing you to Jesus?

And more importantly…why is the Pope praying to Mary and encouraging the members of the Catholic faith to do so…instead of praying and encouraging them to go to JESUS???🤷

Topic Question:

To whom would the Apostles advise the Pope to “turn too”…Mary…or Jesus?

Actually all that we know of Mary is found only in the NT with most of it being in the Gospels. What we don’t find there are these Marian dogmas.
No, ja4. All YOU know is in the NT, because you have rejected the part of the Apostolic Teaching that is not contained therein.
Proof is needed for her immaculate conception, assumption and her intercessory powers for starters. Can you provide?
No, ja4. Proof is not necessary for those who have faith. It is necessary for you because you are faithless in the matter. I could not “prove” anyone’s conception, since I am lacking access to the medical equipment. There is a great movie called The Miracle of Life that shows coneption on film. I am amazed how they got the photos! 🤷

We also do not need “proof” for the power of intercession, since we see it clearly in the NT. If you are looking for “proofs”, ja4, may I suggest a math or science forum?
Depends what you mean by her role. If you stay with the gospels we can agree. If you mean her role in the Catholic church then we have a problem…
No, ja4, “we” don’t have a problem, but apparently you do. Why do you constantly try to give your problems to Catholics? At least have the decency to own your own problems!
Does this mean these memebers who have died can communicate with you?
They can do whatever God allows them to do, just as Samuel was able to appear and communicate with Saul, because God permitted him.
Because she plays no role as our intercessor since Scripture tells us that only the Lord Jesus has that role.
no, ja4, scripture does NOT say this. Why do you come here and post these lies? What type of glee could you possibly get out of slandering the Holy Word of God? There are eternal consequences for such things.

1 Tim 2:1-5
First of all, then,** I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone**, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Intercession is biblical.
I think we can safely say the gospel Paul taught and preached had nothing to do with Mary interceding. Correct?
If you believe that you are safe in leaving Mary out of the Gospel message, then more power to you.

How could Peter forget Mary when she was in the upper room with him and the others?
Exactly! 👍
Peter said that there is no other name under Heaven by which to be saved but the name of Jesus Christ. How could he have forgotten Jesus mother like that?
If you think that Peter was disrespectful to Jesus’ mother you are in grave error.
Paul said that he chose to know nothing but Christ crucified. How could he choose not to know Mary if she was so important? The Virgin birth didn’t seem that important to Paul!
such a statement presupposes that all that was important to Paul is found in his letters, but this is not the case. On the contrary, the one gospel writer that spent the most time with Paul is the one that has the most detailed Marian stories.
Why didn’t Jesus mention his mother in Revelation if she is so important?
What makes you say He didn’t? 😉
Jesus said “Ask anything in my name and I will do it.” Why didn’t he add “and you can ask my mother too.”?
She always asked everything “in his name”, consistent with His desires. She had more “askings” of Him on earth than any other human being. Who knows how many special favors He did for her the first 30 years? Enough that she was quite sure, if she told Him the wine ran out, He would do the best thing.
If Mary was sinless what was she doing in the upper room anyway? If she was sinless she’d be the only person in existance that didn’t need a saviour.
This question represents a misunderstanding of the immaculate conception. Mary herself states that God is her saviour. She was there in the upper room because she wanted to support the disciples. The HS had overshadowed her 33 years before that.
You can poinder on these questions and discuss amongst yourselves now becuase I’m bored of this nonsenseDue to my conclusion of another question which is. What practical application can be applied to these doctrines of Mary that would help us feed Jesus when he is hungary and give Jesus a drink when he is thirsty? I conclude that we can’t.
This is a good point. No amount of thieological discussion will feed the hungry or minister to the poor. In such matters it would be better to follow her example, and that of the other women, who followed Jesus and and the Apostles, fed them, and provided for them during His earthly ministry.

Where is Mary “preached or taught about” in the “gospel message” by Jesus or the Apostles?
Do you think that the references to Mary ended up in the NT by some quirk? Do you think maybe Mary bribed the NT writers to put her stories in there? Maybe she refused to darn John’s socks unless he included her in His gospel?

Let’s see, Luke spent a lot of time with Paul, and Paul in Ephesus, so maybe while they were there, Luke was over at John’s pad and Mary threatened him with a kitchen knife and coerced Luke to include the birth narratives in his gospel?
Where does Jesus or the Apostles preach/teach that belief in Mary’s “holiness/sinlessness/et al” and intercession to/through Mary is necessary for the salvation of all mankind or even of any benefit to a believers spiritual wellbeing or “closeness” to Jesus?
You can read it right there! It is in between the definition of the word “Trinity” and the table of contents for the Bible. 😉
Well unless the books of the NT that is part of the “Sacred History of the Church” have somehow changed - 🤷
they still don’t have any record of Jesus or the Apostles preaching or teaching about Mary.
I am glad to hear you concede that the NT is part of the Sacred Tradition of the church. 👍 Everything in the NT is inspired-inerrant, just as was the Teaching of the Apostles. We see their teaching reflected in the NT, especially in the four gospels, called by the early Christians “the memoirs of the Apostles”. For some reason I guess you think that Mary should be left out of the Holy Writings so that your Readers Digest version can be the ideal.
Help me out here – I don’t know what you are referring too…any reference available?

Mark 10:28-31
29 Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age — houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions — and in the age to come eternal life.”

Who do you suppose are all these new “relatives”. Do you think that the Apostles did not accept the elder woman as “mothers”?

1 Tim 5:1-2
Do not speak harshly to an older man, but speak to him as to a father, to younger men as brothers, 2 to older women as mothers, to younger women as sisters — with absolute purity."

And so is this:

Ephesians 1: (Duoay Rheims)
You keep quoting this, presumabely because you believe that God glorifying Himself in His saints somehow takes away from His own immutable glory, but it does not.
Who says I separate her from the salvation history?
Then why do you keep saying "Jesus and the Apostles never…’ when it is right there in the NT?
I just don’t exalt her to the extent that the Catholic Church has done.
It is God who has exalted Mary. The Church has followed the lead of the HS.
I don’t believe that Paul ever failed in preaching or teaching or exhorting what he was commissioned to do by Jesus – to preach/teach/ the “gospel message” and to baptize in the name of the Father/the Son/the Holy Spirit. He did that during his two year stay at Tyrannus. And without once, mentioning Mary.
Were you there? Do you have the mp3’s? I will pay top dollar! Where do you think that Luke came up with his parallels to the Ark of the Covenant?

If you choose to consider the gospel message of the shed blood of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ as a “readers digest version” and that it is not worth settling for or that there is not enough sufficiency in it for you to be able to enter into His presence…that’s your choice.

the shed blood of Christ, although the summit of our faith, is not all there is to it. It is the beginning, and the foundation for all. Yet, He chose to draw His flesh from Mary, and shed that blood because He was incarnated, taking on the form of a slave. This is also part of the gospel.
Leeann;4399996:
My question is why is there a need to settle for anything else?
We believe that all of it would not have been given if all of it were not important.
There is only one version of being saved, no matter what Church you are in. Where have you been?
I have been in 5 different ones, and I know for sure that there are several “versions” of being saved. Not al of them are consisten with apostolic teaching. 😉
Are you saying that satan is more powerful than God?
God, in His sovereignity, has allowed Satan certain dominion for the present time. The fact that God permits evil does not mean that Satan is more powerful than God.
Code:
What makes you think that Mary was not confused? She was “troubled” right from the moment of Gabriels greeting, he had to tell her not to be “afraid”.
Being confused is not equivalent to faithlessness. She had found favor with God the way we all do, by being faithful. She was troubled by what sort of greeting it might be. The angel revered her with a title - “Full of Grace”, not by her name. Angels are tremendous powerful beings, and most people fall down in front of them. They are “awe” some.

Mary did not question that what the angel said would be true, as 'ol Zachy did. Mary wondered “how”.
My response that you’ve quoted above – was in direct response to a poster saying that “God asked/requested Mary….’ - I was explaining the difference….God never asked Mary for her consent to His plan – God sent an angel to “tell” Mary what His plan was and “how” it was going to unfold…regardless of her consent.
Mary’s life was already completely devoted to God. She was the “handmaid of the Lord”. She gave her consent completely to God before the angel ever came.
Mary had a choice – what I’m saying is that considering the information Gabriel gave to her, about her being “favored” and “no word shall be impossible with God” – those things most likely encouraged her a bit don’t you think – enabling her to make that choice.
Without a doubt! 👍

It does however, enable believers to be able to test and know what HIS truth is and to be able to distinguish what has remained true to the gospel message that Jesus and his Apostles preached and taught.
That’s why we’re Catholic.
But what and whose “history of theology” would you be walking through”?
The one with continuity of history and doctrine that started at Pentecost and has the history and theology to talk about: the one that produced the table of contents of the Bible.
Just as I read this…I remembered…thank you for reminding me…I think it was you that posted a “site” to read when I was in the throws of “fever/hacking/and delirium” last week….I’ll have to go back and check it out.
It’s short but it will save us a lot of time.
No-no-no….in the above quote I am referring to some friends that are really
into “focus” on Mary alone, seriously separated…I haven’t read Pope Benedict’s book, so I haven’t been “thrown off by one sentence”?
I am saying that because you do not know Pope Benedict’s profound Christology, his lifelong quest for the Heart of Christ, that the sentence on Mary looks like a focal point, which, for him, it is not. Jesus of Nazareth is a profound and compelling memoir of a deep, intense engagement with Christ through the gospels. Warning: it’s brainy and sophisticated as well as intimate and personal. It’s best taken in small bites.
Oh no. The Catholic Church is included, along with all other denominations.
Perhaps you are unaware that there is a huge difference between a Church and a denomination. True particular Churches are not ‘denominations’ in the sense of being a cluster of like-minded folk who form a club based on credal or anti-credal formulae. They all are part of that river united with and flowing from the Apostolic root in a concrete hand-to-hand way (or rather, hand-to-head way by the laying on of hands) through history.

It might be possible to be a “true” Christian without consciously belonging to His “true” Church because of the overflowing generosity of God. But to claim that being sincere in seeking Christ is the SAME as being fully united to Christ’s Church would be a misrepresentation of the matter. In this case, one ought not to think of “true” as the opposite of “false” – rather it is more like the carpentry term: straight rather than bent.

Yes – Zacharias’ “prayer” was heard.

He had been *praying *– and when the angel came and told him that his prayer had been heard and that his wife would bear a son – Zacharias questioned this “answer to prayer” .

= onenow1It’s highly probable that Zechariah was aware of the power of God as he was a priest. And It’s likely that a 14 or 15 year old would Question this sort of announcement.

Zechariah’s Whereby shall I know this,?< DOUBT.KJV.
Mary’s was how shall this be seeing I know not man. KJV?

I believe Zechariah knew the facts of life and how he would know !It almost seems like a dumb question regardless of advanced age ,remember Abe’ story ?

Mary’s question is reasonable !

God’s Will was going to be fulfilled…no matter what.

Of course !

In the same manner – the angel didn’t “ask for Mary’s consent” – as you state in your original question above - he told Mary what was going to happen.

Indeed and God told Adam what was going to happen also.

Peace,onenow1:cake: :coffee:

Well – some other versions of the Catholic Bible express it differently – New Jerusalem : 28 He went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, you who enjoy God’s favour! The Lord is with you.’ And New American Standard , 28And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Mary did not question that what the angel said would be true, as 'ol Zachy did. Mary wondered “how”.

As stated – Mary already had the ‘cards stacked in her favour’ (pardon the pun), and Zacharias didn’t.

How do you know what God intended for Mary? What higher honor could we as Christians EVER give her, that exceeds the honor GOD gave her? She carried our Lord in her womb, she held Him when He was first born, she raised Him obediently, and she felt the agony of “a sword piercing her heart” when she witnessed Her son, crucified. God raised her, body and soul, to be with Him in heaven for eternity. What is it we Catholics do for Mary that you think is greater than what God did?

If you still believe that we honor Mary, apart or instead of Christ, you have truly been deaf to all of the sincere posters who have tried to help you understand.

As for the ark of the covenant, there are some great articles here on the CAF Library which discuss the significance as Mary, being the ark of the new covenant, in relation to the ark of the first covenant.

God bless you, and Mary keep you. May you find the peace your heart seems to be seeking.

It’s not what the Catholic Church does for Mary……as to what the Catholic Church has done to Mary.
The humble, faithful, obedient hand maiden of God, whose heart was pierced when she witnessed her son crucified, now also witnesses glory and honor being pointed towards her, instead of towards her son, her Savior…our Savior.

Thank you AshleyBelle…God keep you also.

I don’t get the feeling that that was sincere. Leeann is not seeking peace. She is making a good point and even if you or anyone else on this thread thinks she is right you won’t admit it because that would mean you are unfaithful to the Pope and the Church and the Vatican. The original question is “To Whom Would the Apostles have pointed him …Mary or Jesus?” The Church has one perfect savior. Why create another one ? Co-redeemer, mediatrix and advocate are confusing terms. Jesus is redeemer and mediator and the Holy Spirit is the Advocate.

Mary said, “All nations will call me blessed!” She knew that because of the great things God had done for her, we would honor and bless her for all our days 🙂 She didn’t say “all nations will call me blessed, but I wish they wouldn’t…it takes away from my son…” Even the Angel greeted her “Hail Mary! Full of Grace!” He could have greeted the child Jesus, after he was in her womb, but he didn’t! He gave MARY honor by his greeting!
Jesus knows and wants us to honor His mother, because in doing so we honor and love Him more:)

So again, I ask you… What do Catholics do that God didn’t already do for Mary?
