My answer would differ.

True, we don’t worship Mary, and we don’t serve or sacrifice to Mary in a worshipful manner, so in that sense your underlying meaning is correct. But yes, we do serve and sacrifice to Mary and to other people. For instance, I serve my wife and I make sacrifices for her. That doesn’t equate to worship.

I serve and make sacrifices for my son. That doesn’t mean I worship him.

The pope is the servant of the laity (“the servant of the servants of Christ”). Does that mean the pope worships the laity?

I serve my clients in my practice. That doesn’t mean I worship them.

I have no problem with the idea of giving other people service and making sacrifices for them. And I like to please Mary by giving her honor.

Worship, of course, belongs to God alone.
That make sense as well. I also serve my country. Does that make me an idolater?

‘Mariolaters’ would be infering idolatry, and you all have made it ABUNDANTLY clear you don’t feel that praying to Mary, bowing before her statue, serving her and sacrificing things to Mary is in ANY WAY idolatry.
So personally, I would not use that term.

  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive single graces.
This doesn’t seem threatening to me. I serve my family, the people at the homeless shelter, the waiter in Luigi’s serves ME; we call the pope the “servant of the servants of God.” To serve Mary is in the generous sense of the word to “do whatever He tells you.” Serving Christ is serving Mary.

Serving Mary is serving Jesus by proxy.

No Catholic bows to statues or offers sacrifices to Mary. That would be idolatry, which is condemned. Often Catholics will use statues as an aid to prayer, the same way one would use a Bible to pray or a picture of a loved one to remember them.

  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.
  2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
  3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
  4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
  5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
  6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
  7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
  8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
  9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
  10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
  11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
  12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
  13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.
  14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
  15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

This sums it up nicely.

I just don’t see where you see a problem here. What is your specific objection?

I found this on a website about prayers to the virgin Mary

CONSECRATION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN

My Queen and my Mother, I give myself entirely to you and in proof of my affection, I give you my eyes, my ears, my tongue, my heart, my whole being without reserve. Since I am your own, keep me and guard me as your property and possession. Amen.

Exodus 20:4-5 (New King James Version)
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

There is no conflict, because Mary belongs entirely to God, and everything she has, she gives to Him.

Are you aware that the Catholic Church doesn’t require a Catholic to pray the rosary?
I hate to bring this up, because it will come off in a way I do not mean.

But are you aware that Francisco Marto was told by Mary at Fatima that he would go to heaven if he prayed many Rosaries.?

By this reasoning, marriage is idolatry. After all, I belong completely to my wife — eyes, ears, heart, the works. “For the wife does not rule over her own body, but the husband does; likewise the husband does not rule over his own body, but the wife does.” 1 Cor 7:4.

But I don’t belong to my wife “instead of” Jesus. Just the opposite. I belong to my wife BECAUSE I belong to Jesus. Similarly, Catholics belong to Mary BECAUSE we belong to Jesus. We are, “the rest of her offspring … those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus.” Rev. 12:17.

Not only that but it is impossible to belong Mary without belonging to Jesus. Rev. 12:17 shows that we belong to Mary ONLY if we obey God’s commandments and bear testimony to Jesus. Anyone who rejects Jesus, automatically rejects Mary.

Francisco was receiving a private revelation about himself - it was not meant to be a general principle for everyone.

He was also only six or seven years old at the time; he can hardly be expected to give a theological dissertation about what he experienced in his vision.

32 But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord—how he may please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares about the things of the world—how he may please his wife.

I would say the rosary would be one way but not the only way. I find the Eucharist the most effective way to go to heaven. Since only those free of mortal sin can received the Blessed Eucharist.

I do pray the rosary but I think since we Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Eucharist, and we must approach him with reverence and humility. I’ll take my chances with the Eucharist…

The woman in rev12 is refering to the nation of israel.
The ‘rest of her offspring’ in verse 17 is refering to the believing remnant of Jews.

Somehow I got lost here. My argument was that I belong to my wife because I belong to Jesus — in other words, I fulfill my role as a husband for the greater glory of Jesus. The comparison I had in mind is that I also honor Mary for the greater glory of Jesus.

And here, my brother, we part ways. But :blessyou: for responding in a respectful manner.
