In my opinion, burning an effigy or an idol seems like a pagan act.
Brother, destroying Idols is as Christian As It Gets.

Det. 7:5
But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and chop down their Asherim and burn their carved images with fire

There was no offering to idols. There were symbols present for the tree planting: fruit, candles, and carved items.
An idol or statue is of no help in tree planting and reforestation.

If the Pope and the Bishops wanted to plant trees, there are many spaces outside the Vatican that need greening.

Since this meeting was about the Amazon, and the synod gurus were of the mind to plant trees, they should have flown directly to the Amazon, and plant trees to promote reforestation.
You should read what actually happened so you could understand about the issue of the environment.

Gurus?

Yep. St. Boniface didn’t bow down to the Thor oak, he chopped it down.

For those flimsy pachamama idols I’m thinking, kindling.

And Lord only knows how many altars Saint Patrick himself smashed when he drove out the snakes from the Emerald Isle. Of course we can’t forget about Saints Peter and Paul burning Idols and literature of the pagans.

Having read the pachamama prayer, I am pretty confident the fruit was an offering.
There is no report that the prayer was used at the October 4 ceremony.

In the Italian publication Bien Vivir, at the lower portion of p. 17, is the English translation of Prayer to the Mother Earth of the Inca people.

So which is it?

No report, or the one you specify?

Catholics who were upset about Pachamama being thrown in the Tiber, would call these Saints intolerant and thieves!

There was a very relevant article about this from the Vatican about building bridges without aggression. He tied it in with St. Paul preaching in Athens. From the article…
The Pope took his cue from St. Paul as he described this great Saint’s preaching before the Areopagus in Athens, the cultural capital of the pagan world. In a city filled with idols, said Pope Francis, Paul proclaims the Gospel by appealing to the religiosity of his hearers and their desire to know the truth.
“Always build bridges, always reach out, no aggression.” That was the Pope’s invitation

The goal is to get a people to reject their own idols. We truly win if we can do this!

No report. I did not specify something was used.

Also I found that a communications official (secretary of the Commission for Information) for the Amazon synod, Fr. Giacomo Costa said with regard to the statue:
"It is not the Virgin Mary, who said it is the Virgin Mary?” … “It is an indigenous woman who represents life,” … “it is a feminine figure” … “neither pagan nor sacred.”

The booklet containing the pagan pachamama prayer was published by the Italian bishops, yes?

Apologies. It’s the video dated 5th November 2019, on that link.

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before me. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
This is unfortunate news…

Burning this symbol is a sign of intolerance and disdain… does nothing to bring people to the Catholic religion… in fact quite the opposite

Did anyone post Bishop Athanasius Schneider’s interview yet.

Get over the fact it is in life site news and listen to what this Bishop says in an open letter condemning the use of the statue. And also condemning the fact the Bishops at the Synod were allowed to not wear their usual garb.

Well…on one level we agree…at least. No doubt this Pachamama absurdity is a small part of a much bigger picture.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, instead pay attention to Pachamama…while people try to prevent much needed reforms.

Sigh…
