really, acronyms are insulting now? ofer or efer is not a denigrating insult. its a nickname.
welcome to Australia mate.

whatever; who needs them?

the clergy here are probably better off tending to their local parishes,

if the clergy posters (who all seem to be in full retreat) can’t take the heat; stay out of the CAF kitchen;

ultimately we are all responsible for blazing our own trail’
Yikes… I don’t know about that.

Well, I can’t really eat pizza, so this is a problem.

And you, good sir, are a Papist, through and through!

The reverend Father was truly persecuted here by some of the members…it was disgusting and vile.

i am sorry the clergy has gone into full retreat because a poster or two hurt their feelings…

such candyasses…

i’d’ve expected more from our allegedly elite cadre of theological geniuses
Be at peace, Brian. Why are you so harsh on priests now? For Pete’s sake, simmer down.

You just made me think of “Lunatic Fringe” but I shall save that for another thread.

It can be hard for the average person to recognize a priest on CAF if their user name does not identify. How do you know, to inform the mods?

I think she was speaking about the ones that say they are, or whose usernames says they are.

Priests are usually vetted pretty well. When a new “priest” posts, I generally notify the mods to keep them informed. So far, they seem to have kept the title clean.

Having said that priests posting on the fora in its present state have got to be very very corageous.
Does anybody remember the vagante “orthodox bishop” who posted on here a while back?
@Bishop_Gavrilo was his name. Things got hilarious when several posters called him out for being a poser… Then he got irritated and went on a tirade and the mods banned him. 😁😂😁

In the legendary days of the mythical ‘old CAF’ i believe this was true

If they themselves make that claim, ( or their profile makes that claim. )

No, it’s that when we come, there is a tendency to lecture us on how to understand our own practice and theology–as seen through a latin lens. I’ve left more than once after a round of that.

The attitude when this happens is basically patting the little eastern cousins on the head, and explain why they’re wrong because of what Rome says (ignoring repeated papal teachings in the process).
Well stated!!!

I think you totally misunderstood her statement. There ARE trads who imply that we who don’t cover our heads are somehow “less respectful” to Christ in the Eucharist.
I come from a family tradition that wore mantillas to Mass, Believe me, when the discipline changed to not having to cover came we were thrilled, and it’s part of our culture!

She was saying (I think) that people in the trad camp tend to put a lot of emphasis on THINGS. Dress, how many people in the confession line, vestment style, use of incense and other things that have no effect on the validity of Mass or the disposition of people’s hearts.
If you can’t see that, I don’t know what else to say.
Few people come out and say “Don’t go to a Latin Mass!”
But others DO emphatically say " Don’t go to the OF!" Ours is better!

That’s a notion way above anyone’s pay grade.

This is why the priests lament coming here.
It’s a very harsh and hard place at times for your average Catholic. Even more so for those with a collar!

I’ve seen it happen occassionaly. I’ve gotten the feeling at times that a few of our Latin cousins think we’re… weird. Or just plain wrong. Or not really Catholic. But that’s few and far between, I think most of the interatction is respectful.

I’ve also witnessed uncharitable responses from clergy on CAF that really shocked me. Perhaps it’s the online environment that can get to even those in religious life? There is certainly a unique skill set in communicating around here.
Clergy are human too. None of us, clergy or layman, should be uncharitable. I do think it is the nature of the internet that we are less charitable. It is my observation that the less directly connected to people we are the
less uncharitable we are. An internet connection of correspondence on a forum is actually not very direct.

Yeah, so it sounds like priests would have to be a little nuts to join here as a priest. I bet there are a ton who are here without identifying themselves as such. They probably have a good chuckles and shake their heads at some of the shenanigans that go on around here.
