that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her;
non-Catholics are joined to her by believing what the church teaches (through their own “churches”). To be ignorant is not something that is going to send someone to eternal Hell…
that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity
non-Catholics remain to the extent that thye obey truth.
no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church." (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.)
Again, the Church considers that some non-C are “in unity with the Church”, albeit imperfectly…
There are a lot of folks that honestly don’t believe the Catholic Church is true…
true nuf…

Wrong again, “Hisalone”! Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church alone and entrusted to her for all time the “faith once delivered to the faith.” He often spoke of the Catholic Church as His own flock, of which He is shepherd; He said that whoever will not hear the Church, let Him be treated as a publican or a heathen. Christ founded the Roman Catholic Church, and purchased her with His own blood. Jesus did not start a Church so that membership in it could be optional…

St. Paul, by the way (who warned us against receiving another gospel) was a Catholic, as were all of the rest of the Apostles. And so it stands that you are a heretic, are outside of the Church, and must repent and convert to the Roman Catholic Church or you cannot be saved.
you are right, but incompletely so… What about a person who has never heard of Jesus… or one who has never heard much about the Catholic faith (& those who have false information would fit inot that category)? God does not eternally punish someone who does thebest he can to live by his conscience… & do good… be good… What kind of father tells his children (of say, 5 yrs of age): you must know quantum physics… without a teacher… or i will punish you forever…?

Could it be this, from the Catechism?
I also found this quote from Pope Benedict XVI from a book he wrote a number of years ago. I do not have the book, so I am trusting an internet site for its accuracy (not always a smart thing to do). So, if it is wrong, I’ll gladly accept correction. And yes, I know this is not a statement of dogma.

“Cardinal” Joseph Ratzinger, The Meaning of Christian Brotherhood, pp. 87-88:
“The difficulty in the way of giving an answer is a profound one. Ultimately it is due to the fact that there is no appropriate category in Catholic thought for the phenomenon of Protestantism today (one could say the same of the relationship to the separated churches of the East). It is obvious that the old category of ‘heresy’ is no longer of any value. Heresy, for Scripture and the early Church, includes the idea of a personal decision against the unity of the Church, and heresy’s characteristic is pertinacia, the obstinacy of him who persists in his own private way. This, however, cannot be regarded as an appropriate description of the spiritual situation of the Protestant Christian. In the course of a now centuries-old history, Protestantism has made an important contribution to the realization of Christian faith, fulfilling a positive function in the development of the Christian message and, above all, often giving rise to a sincere and profound faith in the individual non-Catholic Christian, whose separation from the Catholic affirmation has nothing to do with the pertinacia characteristic of heresy. Perhaps we may here invert a saying of St. Augustine’s: that an old schism becomes a heresy. The very passage of time alters the character of a division, so that an old division is something essentially different from a new one. Something that was once rightly condemned as heresy cannot later simply become true, but it can gradually develop its own positive ecclesial nature, with which the individual is presented as his church and in which he lives as a believer, not as a heretic. This organization of one group, however, ultimately has an effect on the whole. The conclusion is inescapable, then: Protestantism today is something different from heresy in the traditional sense, a phenomenon whose true theological place has not yet been determined."

If you Catholics who believe no one can be saved except through being an actual member of the Church aren’t out there preaching from the roof-tops 24/7… well, i don’t know… Evangelilzing is part of being Catholic & to not evangelize is to jeopardize your salvation…

that thing by Pope Benedict VIII … was probably written b4 the Reformaiton (don’t know)… At that time, there was only one Church… Now there are churches that teach Catholic truth, whether they care to admit it or not… True, it is admixed with error… but God is merciful… If all us had to objectively speaking be and do everyhitng Christ said… & do it perfectly… none of us would even make it to Purgatory…

I like the way you put that. Vivat Jesus1 is so off on what the Church teaches, it makes me wonder if he/she is really Catholic. 😦

I like the way she completely ignored Vivat Jesus1’s personal accusation that she is a heretic. Such patience!!

On another thread he/she called this site “Neo-catholic Answers”.
I’ve heard much worse non-Catholic “answers” from the Ask an Apologist forum…but hey, this is NeoCatholic Answers, what do you expect? 🙂
This, in a response to an Apologetics answer from Fr. Serpa. 🤷

Perhaps he/she is sedavacantist. Whatever, he/she is now banned.

I won’t speculate, but thank goodness. There was a lot of misinformation about Church teaching in the posts. Thankfully the most offensive have been removed.

Once again. I find it funny that men are telling God who will and will not be saved. Its up to God. He has more wisdom and grace and understanding then all the Popes put together in a pot.

God again is going to be looking at the heart of an individual, and where he put his faith. Was it in men or himself or in Christ.

You’re joking right???!!! vivatjesus1. You are being deceived!

Actually Jesus and the Apostles were Jewish. “Christianity” was not uttered for over 30 years after Christs death. They met in the Synagogues and homes of other believers.

It wasn’t until Constantin made following Christ the official religion of the Roman empire that we get the first mention of the Catholic Church around 300 AD.

and it is just this kind of distortion of what the Church teaches that causes Prot to stay out of the Church… NOT GOOD…

Once again. If few people make it to Heaven… and few who DO go there directly… (the average stay in Purg is supposed to be 40 yrs)… we have a serious obligation to get as many people on the road to salvation as possible…

Therefore, the need to bring up this and other topics…

By the way: who said anything about “telling God who will and will not be saved”???

well… i have learned the hard way that no matter waht you say to some people… those who resort to such exaggerations… it doesn’t do any good… it is not so much i have patience… just feel it is a sin to waste time… but thanksfor the compliment…

Why?? for saying non-Catholics can’t be saved??

Oh that goes back to someone earlier who said all Protestants go to hell.

Secondly where did you get the 40 year time line? That doesn’t seem all that long in terms of eternity.

yes lets get them on the road to salvation. But the question is… does anyone actually go to Hell or do they all get to Heaven By way of Purgatory. If that is the case the urgency to get them on the road to salvation is not as urgent.

Not really. For accusing someone like you of being a heretic because you accept recent Catholic understandings of how the Church views noncatholics. He/she was able to quote Catholic documents, but seemed to ignore Vat.II. That seems to be the opinion of sedavacantists.
Anyway, it wasn’t meant to be an accusation, just wondering aloud.

This is actually incorrect, the term “Catholic” was used by St. Ignatius of Antioch in his letter to Smyrnaean Christians around 106 AD:

“**See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, *wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. *It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid. **”

newadvent.org/fathers/0109.htm

What do you think St. Ignatius meant by the term “Eucharist?”

Did you that ST. Igantius was a student of the Apostle John?

As regards Constantine, he did NOT make Catholic the official religion of Rome, rather he with his co-emperor Licinius reversed the persecutions of his predecessor Diocletian and promoted religious tolerance, in a document known as the Edict of Milan in 31

qui est ce Thanks for the information.

Its always good to learn something.

I just get kinda irked when someone says something like Jesus was Catholic or a Christian… When he was Jewish.

It also bothers me when someone says King David was a good Christian or whatever. I don’t know why it bothers me it just does.
