I would like the Protestants here to learn about the Saints who were martyred for the faith and to understand something that is truly miraculous throughout the centuries:
People over the centuries have been martyred so viciuosly, so horrendous for the faith, here is a story for you to think about when you doubt the Saints and why Catholics pray THROUGH them.

One of the most amazing preservations is that of St. Andrew Bobola. Prior to his martyrdom he was partially flayed alive, his hands were hacked off and his tongue torn from his head. Splinters of wood were driven under his fingernails, and his face sustained such mutilations he was scarcely recognizable. After hours of further tortures and mutilations, he was dispatched by a sword’s blow to the neck. His body was hastily buried by Catholics in a vault beneath the Jesuit church at Pinsk, where it was found forty years later PERFECTLY PERSERVED, in spite of the open wounds, which would normally foster corruption. Although his grave had been damp, causing his vestments to rot, and in spite of the proximity of decaying corpses, his body was PERFECTLY FLEXIBLE, his flesh and muscles soft to the touch, and the blood which covered the numerous wounds was found to be like that which is freshly congealed.
The preservation was officially recognized by the Congregation of Rites in 1835. Even though the relic was roughly handled during it’s numerous translations, the body remains after more than 300 years in a marvelous state of preservation.
After the martyrdom of St. Josaphat, his body was thrown into a nearby river, where it remained for almost a week. Upon being retreived, it was found to have suffered NO ILL EFFECTS and was consigned to a grave, where it was again found undamaged five years later although the place was excessively damp, causing the deterioration of his vestments.

Of course there are thousands of Saints who are incorruptible but who can explain the reasons for this strange dispensation, which affects so many Holy persons, who, moreover, represent many nations and who lived in various environmental conditions?
some bodies have been embalmed, in some cases it is proven …

Well it seems every evangelical I know is talking about miracles all the time. It seems whenever things go their way…it’s always a “miracle”. You didn’t used to hear Catholics talk about miracles much nor were they so expected. It was understood that a true miracle, was a very, very unusual event.

I have also heard of all kinds of ‘miracles’ in pagan, voodoo and and other such so -called religions. But lets face it the Devil himself can seem to present many miracles in order to deceive. St Magdeline of the Cross was full of miracles because of her pact with the devil.

I believe this is why the Church takes such a serious, cautious approach to such things, and is very careful before something is referred to as a genuine miracle. So unlike protestants and others who call everything a miracle…with no true judgment and authority to back it up.

The truest miracle is conversion to the Catholic faith and this comes from the Holy Spirit.

The truest miracle is conversion to JESUS CHRIST.
What you say about Protestants who call everything a “miracle” is true for those who belong to the charismatic trend, and I agree with you that there are exaggerations …
It is true that the Catholic church is much more cautious than them …

And after you believe in Jesus are you then not expected to seek out the Church he founded, his kingdom on earth, to which he gave the authority to pass on the faith, referred to as “the pillar and foundation of the truth”. He did not hand us a bible and it wasn’t even agreed upon for hundreds of years which books it should contain. And the agreement was made by the bishops of his Catholic church.

So this Church has had the authority from the beginning. Did he not also say unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life in you? Have you not read that St Ignatius of Antioch, an early bishop martyred for the faith in the first century wrote how even that early some were denying this real presence of Jesus in the eucharist?

Seems to me a true conversion to faith in Jesus, would seek one to inquire which of the 30,000 ‘churchs’ have the authority from the beginning to pass on the faith and teach the truth. In other words, the Church founded by Christ for his flock.

That’s quite true. 🙂

After my conversion to Jesus Christ I try to do the best I can to obey Him and for me it doesn’t mean becoming a Catholic …
I still have a lot to learn, I’m conscious of this, but I can’t do things if I think they’re contrary to some Bible teachings …
which doesn’t mean I reject everything in the Catholic Church, I even go to Mass from time to time …
by becoming a Christian, even a Protestant one, at the same time I came nearer to the Catholic Church since before I was an atheist ( family background )…At first my parents didn’t accept my becoming a believer, it was not easy for me …and even now sometimes it is a bit tough …

And so it is when you are on the journey. You are closer. You are not fully there, but it is a wonderful thing that you accept Jesus. The fact that it is tough makes it worth it, even if it is your own family that makes it tough. Jesus promised us that when we suffer for His sake, we will be rewarded.

You may never become Catholic. You might. Who knows other than God. My advice is to never stop looking for the Truth of Christ. Learn all you can and pray constantly.

Yea, what about this?
holdencaulfield,

It’s pretty cool that the tongue of the saint was the only body part of him that was not corrupted which could be a sign from God that the saint was an awesome preacher.

God bless,

Rony

Your message is very encouraging, thanks !!!
and thank you especially for not trying to “press” Catholicism on me … 👋

What kind of question is this?? Why would a Catholic even say this? Who cares? It’s the incorruptible body you should be fixated on, not her nails…
The makeup and tweezing did not stand out nearly as much as the light shining on her nails. This is so glaringly different from the sisters I knew and loved in school it just jumped out at me…thus the fixation. I am not denying the miracle–I wonder why the embalmer felt the need to improve on God’s wonder.

there was no God’s wonder, but, as you said, an embalmer …

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I’m not sure you realize what you read is not what I meant. (I couldn’t resist, I haven’t been able to use that in years)
I did not mean to give the impression I do not believe St. Bernadette to be an incorruptable. I have read many accounts of incorruptables, stigmata and bilocation manifested by the saints, as opposed to none displayed by nonCatholics, much less by nonCatholics who happen to be holy people. I invite anyone to give me examples of such miracles among nonCatholics. I think the Lord simply acknowledges the difference in belief systems and is willing to bend over backwards to work with what He is given. Having said that, I feel the embalmer and caretakers have done a disservice in making it so easy for some to doubt.
