Several things I wanted to bring up. 1) Pictures sent to cell phones and on internet dating sites can be
very deceptive. You don’t know how OLD the picture is. a person can send you a picture when they
were 20 poundes lighter.
  1. I don’t know how to say this, but with this girl It didn’t seem fair that all her ex’s got her at her best. Then Im left to meet her when she is over weight, has all the kids she can handel and she is just spent.
It seems like people who are over weight should date other people who are over weight. And skiny people should date other skiny people. emotionaly traumatized people should hook up with other emotionaly damaged people…and so on and so forth…knowone left lonely…but relationships being more equal.
I’m curious, how fat is she? What is her clothing size? How much does she weigh?

I mean, if 20 pounds is making her unattractive to you, then maybe your standards are too high. 20 pounds is a fairly small amount of weight, and most women will gain that much with age and pregnancies.

The dynamic is different between men and women in their early 20’s down to their teens. There are plenty of men who are real pieces of work, I guess the male equivalent, but the system in the west, the trends are all too clear. ** Have you heard of women stating that some guy will make a good “first” husband?** How many men have said that some gal would make a good first wife, “NONE”!!! There are also many women that have kids entirely to collect child support, there are also many women that get married just to collect half what he owns. Sadly, it’s a career choice, not a marriage issue.

With many of us single guys in our 30’s and 40’s, we’ve spent a great deal of time focusing on our careers which has us out of the loop in that area too often, with women, they have that biological clock that doesn’t allow them that luxury, so again, another defining difference.
Do you mean to say you have never heard the term ‘Trophy Wife’? That is wife #2. who is usually 20 or more years younger than wife #1. Wife #1 gets thrown to the trash heap of life after dear hubby tosses her aside for younger Trophy Wife. This is usually done by men who have had some financial success in the world and are looking for a partner that helps them feel younger at a time when they themselves are starting to bald, grow hair in their noses and ears, and sag here and there. They no longer appreciate wife #1 who helped them achieve their financial glory; instead, she is a reminder of their faded youth.

This thread is bizarre in some ways. Middle aged men want to date women who must be in top shape, good looking but without a past or annoying children. Or fat people must only date fat people, thin people with thin people, and people with a past to people with a past. Good luck then! There may be a reason you are having no success.

True, but deception is deception. You don’t owe to someone who deceives you to oblige you.

As a rule, there is merit in what you say, but things aren’t as simple as that most of the time. The way I see it, bottom line is people should expect from others more or less the same as from themselves, but you can’t tell people not to fall for those more attractive than they are (in many different aspects) and sometimes someone’s more attractive in one regard but less in another and the mean total is or may be more material than isolated parts.

Easy. With all respect, you might be judging a tad bit too fast. He didn’t expect more than he himself had to offer, so you have little right to blame him. You can complain all you want about a balding fat virgin chaser with a past full of immoral conduct, but you can’t complain about a guy who’s more or less in shape in this or that regard wanting to date a woman who’s in a similar shape in this or that regard. You’re fast to tell men to become more realistic, but you defy the same attempt - even a milder one, in fact - targetted at women, i.e. you criticise on a moral level and almost ridicule middle aged men for looking for a reasonably fit woman without much of a past, but you’re all revolting against the idea of suggesting to an overweight lady that she might stick with overweight guys. Why the latter does sound somewhat cruel (and my proposition is to allow people to choose on their own), there is a huge disproportion between the two.

On a different note, I’ve been referred to as good husband material with it being said between the verses that I wasn’t good for the “before”. The news flash is that that kind of logic doesn’t work with me, but that’s hardly any news anyway. 😉

How hard is it to spot a liar, though? If a woman really is out for a “first husband” and marries a guy with that in mind, how hard is it to spot her if one’s paying any attention? I would spot one before engagement and she’d be out of the picture before she could say, “au revoir mon cheri.” If a guy can’t tell, he’s probably either very naive (such as hopelessly in love or having very poor people skills) or thinking with something else than brain.

Well, focusing on career when other guys are looking for a wife kinda logically results in more career and less wife than other guys, doesn’t it?

The vast majority of middle aged men aren’t good enough to secure a Trophy Wife.

Only very wealthy and powerful middle aged men are able to attract beautiful young women. For most middle aged men (and I daresay every single middle aged man on this forum) this is just something they wish they could have, but in reality will never attain.

They can dream of young, beautiful women all they want. But unless they are millionaires or otherwise powerful men (being reasonably successful isn’t good enough, there are plenty of reasonably successful men who are also young and attractive), they are going to have to be single or date relatively unattractive middle aged women.

Facts of life.

No, I’m against the idea that just because you’re fat (whether by 15 or 50 pounds), you shouldn’t even consider dating someone who is not. That is a bizarre suggestion. There are plenty of heavy people who are also physically fit, just as there are thin people who are not.

I did say to the original poster that he has no obligation to continue dating this woman. But he would be cruel to tell her it is because she is too fat. No doubt she knows that already.

From what I hear from my attractive-but-with-baggage (read: children) girlfriends (whose husbands turned out to be scoundrels or not up to the challenges of marriage), most of the men they encounter while dating want sex within the first three dates, or it’s bye-bye! These are all great gals who keep fit, dress well, go to church, etc. There seem to be a lot of bottom feeders in the dating pool at this stage of life for both sexes, doesn’t there?

Yep. :o

Gosh, this really seems like a very painful situation for this woman and a very uncomfortable situation for you. I am very surprised so many people are seeing this as mostly her fault. I can definitely see a whole lot of fault from your end, too.

First, you never should have gotten to the point that you were developing a friendship if there was no possibility this could be romantic from you. You should have asked for a recent picture and you should have been very up front about your physical standards. It certainly is fair that you want to be attracted to the person you’re dating, but you should never have gotten past 2 or 3 emails or one telephone conversation with a person that you look at and say, “no”.

The idea of you meeting her children while knowing you have zero physical attraction to her is just bizarre, and not just her fault. It is yours as well. Clearly, she’s gotten too attached too quickly and really latched on to you, and not realized she needs to keep boundaries around her children until she’s sure she’s in a serious relationship. That’s her fault, but there’s so much deception just woven into dating, you have to make a conscious effort to be scrupulously honest when you’re getting to know people and simply let them know quickly, kindly, and cleanly when you’re not interested. Unfortunately, every time you meet her and talk on the phone you’re lying, and you’re leading her on.

I’m very sorry she’s going to be in so much pain. There’s just no way out of this for you without severely hurting her, and there’s no chance of you remaining friends. Even though you can’t avoid hurting her, you can avoid disrespecting her by lying again. Just be honest, and tell her you aren’t physically attracted to her. I really don’t know what to say to make it better for her, but I do know there are some men who will accept her and her body as it is, and some that are even attracted to heavier women. She deserves to find those men, or to be motivated to lose weight for her health, or both. You are standing in the way of either of those things happening right now, but your honestly, though painful, may help her in the long run to either find a man who loves her at her current weight or to lose weight.

Dating is just so hard in this stage of life, and especially for women, regardless of what they look like. I really thank God I am not dealing with it. I have always been a size 4 and look years younger than my age, and I wouldn’t go back into the dating world for all the money in the world, really.

You got that right, Ailina!

Wow. Words just fail me.

But she’s a really fun gal to be with so you’ve been stringing along this fat used up downhill loser whose done being an incubator, right? Why not just print out your comments here to thousands of strangers and show them to her. Bet you won’t need to worry how to break it off when she sees what you really think of her. So you pretend to be nice to her face?

I think shiny perfect people should only date shiny perfect people. Leave us emotionally traumatized to meet other emotionally damaged people who have actually known some pain and suffering. They might be a little more gentle with our feelings too.

And you wonderful absolutely perfect people can find your equals. Because there are so many absolutely perfect people out there… wait… go join that thread of all the “nice guys” who claim they can’t find decent women. hahahahahahahaa 😉

Again, just so you know, women have been known to gain weight when they have babies. Your wife, should you ever find one, may not appreciate your constant nagging to drop the baby weight.

Please let that poor woman go. Be as brutal to her face as you are behind her back so she has no more illusions that you are an answer to any kind of dream, okay? At least do that much for her.

To the OP, I am pretty concerned that you let this woman push you into doing things that you didn’t want to do. She made you meet her children on your first date, wouldn’t take no for an answer, and was getting mad at you for not being romantic. You allowed yourself to be bullied into proceeding with someone that you didn’t want to proceed with. You are 42 and male. Learn to say no when you mean no. Being direct about what you are looking for and not settling will be a lot more effective strategies for you than waffling about the way that you are now.

You are totally fine with wanting a woman whose lifestyle is compatible with your own. This woman’s obviously isn’t.

I was kinda thinking the same thing…😦

15-20 pounds I very much doubt is the weight the OP is talking about with his girl, and right now,. she is his and he is hers even if he doesn’t want it, in her mind, they are an item and it’s only a matter of persistence before he gives in to her demands…

Dude, run away as fast as humanly possible, I was trying to be subtle about it before, but let this person’s experience be a lesson to learn for both of us. You are in your 20’s, to correct one of the previous threads, I’m the one that is 42. I’ve been there done that, rescuing one that was 5’ 4", 250 pounds, and was emotionally bullied into the relationship to a point, I was taken advantage of when we initially got together due to a death of a dear friend which also concided with losing my job and having to address my friends business matters pro bono afterwards to boot, for he was my boss as well. so, kind of in a low spot in my life and she took full advantage of it as well as the very long dry spell I had not even remotely dating anyone for a decade prior as well.

You are essentially looking at the thresh hold of what I faced back then, and it took me a decade to finally be free from that one, it doesn’t have to be for you. Do NOT do it, just don’t give it a second thought, leave now, heal, and keep your options open, for I am sure you will find someone more compatible for you locally or through other means, you can hardly do worse buddy! This luvy duvy stuff does eventually wear off, you eventually have to be into each other, or away, entirely upon each of your merits, and she’s starting this one out in the same manner as what I experienced, and she’s doing it in a text book manner.

With what the OP mentioned along being left with the left overs, he’s darn right, why should he have to pick up the pieces for someone elses mistakes, if he was with her from the beginning and her body started to go downhill, that’s entirely another matter, it’s about having some standards, and to be honest, losing some weight is not an impossible feat to accomplish what so ever…!!!

With the poster stating that we must have some problem in the dating scene, in his case, he’s not showing confidence on the local scene, and probably hasn’t established a working game plan for his life and carear, not knowing that gals his age don’t look at what we have as much as what our potential is. On my end, I was subject to that overbearing gal that was a mistake for me from the beginning, but I have this ruthless loyal streak, so even if I"m being treated badly and entirely being taken advantage of, my fidelity remains in tact regardless, it’s just how I’m wired and it’s obviously not the case for too many men, or women for that matter…

No, I’m against the idea that just because you’re fat (whether by 15 or 50 pounds), you shouldn’t even consider dating someone who is not. That is a bizarre suggestion. There are plenty of heavy people who are also physically fit, just as there are thin people who are not.
Heh, I am one of those in the last category, that is, I generally perform better than the typical man of the same age etc. range, but even though I can keep going despite coughing blood out should it come to it (yo, Doc!) and I’m reasonably good at pretending I’m not panting, there’s just a certain limit past which one doesn’t go. Does it make me a pansy? No, the opposite, actually. Does it make me objectively a man that won’t run a mile no matter what happens? Yeah, very much so. Conclusions are everybody’s to make on his own (or her own, for that matter). That’s kinda because attraction is a rather intimate matter and you just can’t force it with the force of a moral right. And people don’t really have a moral right to attract people they want. This is what I said in my last post or the one before: things don’t go as far as saying X people should only date X people, Y people should only date Y people etc. (that’s where I turned attention towards a certain mean total attractiveness, so to call it), and you can’t tell people not to be attracted to particular others. However, to demand a certain equivalence is not a bad thing and to forego attraction is a dangerous enterprise.
I did say to the original poster that he has no obligation to continue dating this woman. But he would be cruel to tell her it is because she is too fat. No doubt she knows that already.
Of course it would be cruel. It’s enough to say there’s no chemistry or to say you don’t feel the certain thing without which you can’t go on (the “chemistry” line can be quite cliche). However, on the other hand, things like that could be told by the right people in the scenario, e.g. friends of the same sex - hearing it from an opposite sex friend or even relative might be too traumatising for a woman or a more sensitive man. However, overall, one’s probably better off going through a little trauma first but gaining the ability to deal with the problem in return. That’s generally how the whole education process works. We get a C, oops, we gotta work. We get a D, oops, we gotta work real hard. We get a B, hey, it work. We get an A, wow, it worked really well. Something of that kind. The thing is that in many cases, if no one will tell, the problem won’t go. So someone should tell, but preferably not a love interest, not an ex, not a could-have-been and so on.
People who want sex within the first three dates are everywhere in all categories. Clearly stating in a new mixed company that you agree with everything the Catholic Church teaches on sexual morality reduces your dating pool to near nil (I live in a Catholic country and it’s been suggested multiple times that with “my attitude” I won’t find anybody). Just don’t date people who want sex while dating, period. Find one of those somewhat bitter Catholic “old bachelors” who may not be the easiest to get along with in the beginning, but who will be on the same page with you (i.e. your girlfriends) regarding those things. They will just lack those certain charms of the guys who want sex (which charms might be there specifically to get sex).

Who are you kidding? You don’t get bullied into a relationship unless you have someone holding a gun to you head or otherwise threatening you.

You chose to be with that woman, and later came to regret it so it’s easy for you to think that she somehow forced you.

And fat people generally know they are fat and that fat is generally considered unattractive. You’d have to be deaf and blind not to know this in modern culture. Most of them are perpetually trying to lose weight (just look at the money the diet industry makes each year) and perpetually failing.

No, not all fail, understand this please!!!

Holding a gun to our heads, how about something else… just don’t go there …

Again, too fast to judge, I believe. Being nice is a matter of courtesy, and is not always double-faced, or even pretended. He’s dealing with a problem that is important, i.e. attraction, and it’s people here that wanted to know what the problem was (and I knew that the moment he would say it had to do with weight, problems would start).
I think shiny perfect people should only date shiny perfect people. Leave us emotionally traumatized to meet other emotionally damaged people who have actually known some pain and suffering. They might be a little more gentle with our feelings too.
Agreed. One very good thing about people with experience is that they have a bigger imagination, so to say, and they don’t expect you to be perfect, or grind you in the mill of schedules, comparisons, rights and expectations - even if they can be a bit unstable at times for reasons you did not cause.
And you wonderful absolutely perfect people can find your equals. Because there are so many absolutely perfect people out there… wait… go join that thread of all the “nice guys” who claim they can’t find decent women. hahahahahahahaa 😉
Erm. That wasn’t nice.

I believe he’s made it clear it’s not the baby weight - he’s made it clear it’s fastfood and sedentary lifestyle, which is one of the diseases of our modern civilisation.
Please let that poor woman go. Be as brutal to her face as you are behind her back so she has no more illusions that you are an answer to any kind of dream, okay? At least do that much for her.
Again, he shouldn’t be an answer to her problems just like she shouldn’t be one to his, on which latter point we’d probably agree. Instead of more of me talking, let me give you what dulcissima wrote:
To the OP, I am pretty concerned that you let this woman push you into doing things that you didn’t want to do. You are totally fine with wanting a woman whose lifestyle is compatible with your own. This woman’s obviously isn’t.
Which I agree with. Yup, dood, don’t play the game they make you play just because you want to be a gent. Relationships are to be freely entered into, not forced out of you via the force of facts. I believe some of the ladies here would have plenty of problems with you claiming a girl, introducing her to your children, if you had some, or say, your parents, pressuring for intimacy… and eh, if you weren’t in a top shape, that would also likely be charitably pointed out to you. Folks. let’s get some fair standards here. The OP made some mistakes, but I don’t believe a woman asking for advice would get near as much thrashing as he did. Yes, the “damaged goods” line of thinking isn’t the most charitable one, but it isn’t a product of an evil, greedy mind, nor is it evil to want to date someone who’s more or less on the same page with you on matters of lifestyle, attraction etc. I’m not blaming the woman in the sense of fault, but when you move too fast, try to advance the relationship by way of facts and so on, then you leave no room for the prospective mate to let you off gently. That means it’s going to hurt. Been there, done that.

Lesson for the future: 1) get to know things before allowing things to get romantic, 2) don’t get pressured into romantic stuff by a friend, 3) flee when you see someone coming down way too hard.

Who are you kidding? You don’t get bullied into a relationship unless you have someone holding a gun to you head or otherwise threatening you.
Are you telling us that the women who stay with abusers, despite the lack of a gun or equivalent device, aren’t bullied into a relationship? I don’t think that proposition would survive five minutes here without getting burnt to the ground with proverbial napalm. 🙂

Yes, you can get bullied into a relationship. It takes a person who:
  1. is too polite or maladroit to refuse small advances or “facts” such as being introduced to parents, introduced as a boyfriend/girlfriend etc., or,
  2. has a general problem saying no,
  3. is somewhat scrupulous and his compassion or loyalty can be played against him.
The counterparty need not be a bad, manipulative person. It might well someone who’s simply been coming down too hard and not taking no for an answer or someone who will be badly hurt by refusal.
You chose to be with that woman, and later came to regret it so it’s easy for you to think that she somehow forced you.
That’s possible, but I don’t think the facts here clearly support that conclusion. On the other hand, I think they tend to speak in favour of the conclusion that she came down too hard, i.e. falling fast and creating some facts to secure her find - basically an obsessive pattern. It’s not a matter of guilt, it’s a matter of it not being a good basis for a relationship.

What did she do? Sit on you? Just because your relationship with a fat woman didn’t work out doesn’t mean all fat women are emotionally manipulative. There are plenty of slender gorgeous women who capable of being emotionally manipulative as well.

Beware of painting all women with the same brush. I am SO glad I am not dating (aside from going to Eucharistic Adoration one night a week; I joke with my friends that THAT is my date night with Jesus.👍.)

and was emotionally bullied into the relationship to a point, I was taken advantage of when we initially got together due to a death of a dear friend which also concided with losing my job and having to address my friends business matters pro bono afterwards to boot, for he was my boss as well. so, kind of in a low spot in my life and she took full advantage of it as well as the very long dry spell I had not even remotely dating anyone for a decade prior as well.
Ailina beat me to it.

So you’re saying if a woman who took emotional advantage of your loss and grief and filled the dry spell (with what, exactly??) since you hadn’t dated anyone else for 10 years… well, if she’d been thin you would have been okay with that kind of person? Or would you have rewritten history in a kinder manner? Would it have become “we consoled each other, but it was not meant to be in the long run…”

Thin and pretty gets a pass in this world, doesn’t it?

Who used whom here? Maybe she’s going around talking about the lawyer who hadn’t had a woman in 10 years who used her when he was feeling at a low point and then dumped her when his friends started mocking him and the fat chick.

Or maybe not. We’ll never know. We’re just hearing a lot of criticism of bad motives and bad character being associated with overweight, when there are plenty of thin women out there who are users and manipulators too.

And dudes… if you don’t want to date a woman, you don’t have to call her up and ask her. You don’t have to drive your car over and pick her up. You don’t have to meet her somewhere. How does a man get bullied into romance? You just do what men for centuries have done, and become unavailable, busy all the time and leave her sitting by the phone. It’s a man talent. They’re famous for it.

BTW Chev, don’t ever sell yourself short. Your clarity of thought and wisdom… I had thought all along you were much older. Alas. Too bad you’re so young… and so far away…

😛
