Did you actually read the article?
Romney has to learn to speak so he doesn’t have rush back to clarify. He could have said he cares about the poor and fixing the safety net if necessary, but his main focus is . . .
Then at least there wouldn’t be a sound bite of him saying “I don’t care about the poor.”

Actually, it’s fun shooting himself in the foot. He’s my last choice anyway.

When I logged on to my Yahoo homepage, the leading news headline was “Romney says he’s not concerned with the very poor”. Then I turn on my local Baltimore news and the leading tease? You guessed it.

I think a lot of us always have that nagging dread that the uninformed populace are swayed by this type of sensational biased news editing. Let’s face it, if people took the time to actually reasearch the issues before voting, there would be a lot fewer liberal politicians.

Peace

Actually what he said didn’t need to be clarified. His original statement was carefully edited to sound as if he said something else.

I fear that I’ve been caught in a time/space warp and that in November I will have to choose to follow either the Czar or Lenin. 😦 (Do I really have to explain which is which?)

Newt may or may not be a changed man since the 1990’s. But politically, it doesn’t matter. The Obama machine will demolish him with his own history.

Vote Santorum before it’s too late!
Or Mr Gingrich will destroy himself by repeating his own history.

He can’t beat the Mattel candidate. There’s corporate Mitt, blue collar Mitt, and family guy Mitt. Fully posable. You get to pick his outfits and there’s even a space where you can insert your values. Available in all finer stores everywhere. Offer subject to restrictions in CA. Sorry, no returns accepted.

Does it come with the Sink the Country Obama doll?

That offer requires a proof of purchase symbol and you have to pay for shipping. Made in Thailand. Limit one per customer. Comes with Biden talking head. Press the button and you’ll never know what he will say next.

Oh stop it. I’ve read the article and I read Mitt’s attempted “clarification”. You are content with it. I am not, nor are many news outlets.

Of course Romney isn’t conserned about the poor. They aren’t his constituents. The poor won’t be voting for him and he knows that.

But don’t fret I’ll be here come Nov. to chat as you guys pout over the President’s re-election. I promise that!
Is it possible, that, not only can you read it, but you are also reading in to it as you read it? Kind of like “Political Private Interpretation”, where you not only know what he said, but you also know, even better than he himself knows, what he said? 🙂

I’ll be here also in November when Obama wins reelection, to discuss the Parousia that Obama brings about.

Why don’t yogo back and look at whenthe Glass-Steagal Act was repealed by Lott and Delay, that’s where it really began.
You will get a lot of agreement on that point. Among other things, letting banks sell short (and wiping out) the very companies they lend money to is ludicrous. Companies with positive cash flows were wiped out by bank-forced bankruptcies following 9/11, leading to other problems. Jim Cramer admitted this on one of his shows in 2002.

Romney is being blasted by Gingrich for his comments. Did he share in my ignorance?

We are not to make uncharitable posts about political candidates.

Now, have we yet ascertained that your post was ignorant, and not malicious?

It was very poorly stated, but Romney is right (nolt a Romney guy-yet 😉 BTW)

Those at/below the poverty line have many programs to care for them. It’s the working poor (above the poverty line) that are ignored.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump to Endorse Newt Gingrich Tomorrow
An advisor to Donald Trump says he will make a major announcement in Las Vegas tomorrow. Sources tell the 8 News NOW I-Team Trump will endorse Newt Gingrich.
According to Trump advisor Michael Cohen, “Donald J. Trump will be making a major announcement tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at Trump International Hotel & Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada… The announcement will pertain to the Presidential race.”
Gingrich enters the Nevada Caucus after getting beat by Mitt Romney in Florida. He has spent the day in campaigning in Reno.
Last year, Trump decided not to run for the GOP nomination after attacking President Barack Obama over the validity of his birth certificate.

He’s toast now.

I can’t believe somebody running for president would say such a thing…whether they meant it or not. Duh.

I support Santorum anyway.
Why would he be toast? Are the “very poor” a significant portion of the Republican base or swing vote?

I fail to see were in the Constitution it delegated the authority to “patch the safety net” for the “very poor” to the Central National Bureaucracy as opposed to, say, the States per the 10th Amendment.

Any Republican aspirant to the nomination shouldn’t have a knee-jerk impulse to go along the autocratic notions of the Left Wing. The assumption that a bunch of yahoos in Washington D.C. playing Lord of the Manor over a perpetuated underclass of dependents counts as “charity” and “compassion” is a dangerous one indeed. He should be talking about how removing government obstructions to economic emancipation restores social mobility to those in poverty and empowers more efficient charitable organizations at the state, local, and community level to address these problems at a level that can actually solve problems.

You shouldn’t need to put on a Ron Paul hat to figure that one out, Willard.

standing ovation 👍

Ahhh…the one he made worse by not being able to work with a Republican congress?
That would make sense, except it was a Democrat Congress the last two years of Bush’s presidency, when the economy began to tank; and a much larger majority Democrat Congress the first two years of the Obama administration, as the economy worsened. We’ve had a weak recovery…starting with the Republican Congress last year. 🙂

Moral of the story? Your economy will tank with a Democrat Congress, regardless of the President.

Same old same old from these political topics in the Catholic forums.Nasty and hateful just like the present primary. Why so much hate from so called Christians.
It seems virtually impossible for most posters in the political forums in Catholic Answers to be charitable and respectful concerning the President of our country.
Let there be peace, Carlan
Hey, Carlan. Where have you been? We all miss your finger wagging.

Btw…I agree with you that ringil’s mudslinging posts about Romney are nasty and hateful. With any luck, he and the media folks he’s quoting will cease and desist.

It just kind of reminds me when Sarah Palin couldn’t pull out a Supreme Court verdict she was particularly opposed to when she previously railed against activist judges. It’s that terribly awkward moment when a candidate gets caught off-script.

In this case it wasn’t the bad-context quote-cum-gaffe that’s the elephant in the room for Romney, but the shockingly candid reveal that comes in the back-peddling. Apparently all Democrats have to do to continue an agenda of Obamacare and a Nationalized Nanny State is get MSNBC to accuse Mitt Romney of being a big meanie-head who hates poor people.
