**Michigan polling **

Romney 36%, Santorum 33%, Paul 12%, Gingrich 9% - Mitchell Research/Rosetta Stone

Santorum 38%, Romney 34%, Paul 12%, Gingrich 7% - CBS

“It’s clear that Mr. Santorum’s position had deteriorated some from last week, when a series of polls gave him a lead of about 7 percentage points, on average.” - Nate Silver

Michigan GOP Primary: Romney 40%, Santorum 34% - Rasmussen

What if Romney wins?

“Republican strategists say that although they would restore Romney to front-runner status in the race, they could still leave the party looking at a long nomination battle. They also say that winning both states Tuesday wouldn’t be enough to resolve many of the doubts that still surround Romney. … Even if Romney were to win Michigan and Arizona, he will face a difficult landscape on Super Tuesday, March 6. A victory in Michigan would boost his prospects in Ohio, but Santorum, who is from neighboring Pennsylvania, is a serious threat there.” - Washington Post

The negative campaign moves to Michigan

“So with the Arizona debate over, the increasingly contentious campaign moves to Michigan, where Romney has been running ads attacking Santorum, and on Thursday Santorum introduced two new ads attacking Romney. The first hit Romney for supporting Wall Street bailouts and “turning his back on Michigan workers.”” - Byron York

Team Romney’s anti-Santorum strategy: paint him as a Washington insider

“And now, team Romney sees a lucky break in swatting away the latest would-be alternative to his candidacy, banking that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has exposed himself as a Washington insider incapable of delivering the jolt so many Republicans believe the political system needs.” - Washington Examiner

Is there an alliance between Ron Paul and Romney?

“Rick Santorum’s campaign suggested that there may be a covert alliance between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney, especially in view of their behavior at the debate in Arizona. … there does seem to be something, prima facie, to their conduct during debates, if one assumes that the alliance would preclude Paul from criticizing Romney in debates. In the previous seven debates, going back to the January 7 New Hampshire debate, Ron Paul has only attacked Mitt Romney once.” - National Review

“I’ve been playing this little game with my friends. It’s called ‘Guess which seven states Santorum can win,’” said veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, who thinks Santorum’s stances against abortion, contraception and stem cell research make him a no-sale to women voters in all parties. “Here’s the seven. OK, there’s Utah, Idaho, a Dakota, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama. What’s that? Six? Okay — Texas? … Wait. I’m not 100 percent sure he can win Texas.”" - Politico

Obama slams energy critics… but campaigned on lower energy prices himself in 2008

“It’s the easiest thing in the world to make phony election-year promises about lower gas prices,” Obama told a crowd at the University of Miami. “What’s harder is to make a serious, sustained commitment to tackle a problem that may not be solved in one year or one term or even one decade.”" - LA Times

I think Obama had Commissar Sebelius put out the infamous HHS decision during the Republican primaries to distract everyone from his destruction of the economy. While I think the violation of religious freedom is the more dangerous aspect of Obama’s misrule, Obama makes a cynical choice and bets that for many people, their god is their belly. As citizens, we should be sensitive to any infringement of our right to the free exercise of religion and conscience. As Catholics, we should not be discouraged. Whether any number of Catholic women use or ever have used artificial birth control is immaterial to the issue, as it would be to say many men have over-indulged in drinking strong spirits, and that invalidates the Church’s teaching on temperance. During the persecutions of Christians in ancient Rome, all that was required of some was to make a mere ostentation of worship of the Caesar, a pinch of incense in the brazier. All Thomas More had to do was attend Henry’s wedding, and maybe dollar-dance with Anne. The process by which Obamacare was adopted was a travesty of Democracy. As Nancy Pelosi said, “We have to pass it to find out what’s in it”. There are 2,700, pages of hidden powers granted to Sebelius. “The Director shall” require, approve and so on. This is an essential affront to a free people. Obama deserves to be impeached for trashing the very spirit of his oath of office. However, that is buried deep within his conscience, beyond any access and action of ours. My calling for impeachment is but “standing athwart history and yelling stop”.

Sorry don’t really understand what you mean. I think that Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell were two mistakes made by what I’d call party purists. They were both frankly embarrassing to the Republican Party and to the Conservative movement as well as being an embarrassment to the female sex in our quest to be taken seriously when running for office. I do not think any party does itself a favor putting up ill prepared candidates with a lot of baggage. Could say the same for Al Franken but the Dems in Wisconsin voted for him…although I still maintain a fraudulent election.

That first ladies were pro aborts is an interesting factoid. But let’s ask if any of these were truly women of faith? I think not. Were any of the wives of our current candidates our First Lady I assure you there would be a completely different tone in the White House. So it is not an issue of male vs female. If you suggest (and I do NOT think you do) that females are more likely to be pro aborts, I doubt it. Even if the consequences of a pregnancy land more on the female than the male, I still think our nature is not to kill babies. It is only the propaganda of the Left that has dispensed with the need for a conscious

Fraudulent vote in Wisconsin, indeed. He was elected in Minnesota.

Sorry I knew that but just typed wrong state. OK I believe Franken’s election in MINNESOTA was the result of fraudulence and it is but one of the examples of how far some will go to force their agenda. Our neighboring state Washington has multiple elections where it was found that dead people voted with amazing regularity… I guess the same is true in Chicago. I agree with Hugh Hewitt though, if it’s not close they can’t cheat.

Indeed we need all the votes we can get so that the Democrats can’t cheat - like they did in Washington. That is why I hope that the lukewarm, the disgruntled Ron Paul folks, and the people who don’t normally vote, actually get out and vote because we need their support - so its too hard for them to “find” just enough votes to put the Democrat over the top. That is what happened with Governor Gregoire in Washington - she lost the election and then the recount. Then there was a 2nd recount which she “won”. A few days ago she signed into law the gay marriage bill. She is catholic.

Maybe many Ron Paul “folks” still remember how he was completely shut out at the last Republican National Convention. Oh, now they need his support?

Oh yes it is SO very productive for people to maintain their undies in a permanent wad and strike back at real or perceived slights. I think we owe it to our country to put its future ahead of our petty pity parties, pouting and posturing. People who say they will stay home if "THEIR guy isn’t nominated or doesn’t get enough minutes of air time are only helping Obama. “My guy” hasn’t won anything since Reagan was elected but I’ve voted for the best of whatever choice was offered.

I just watched Rick Santorum on “This Week With George Stephanopoulus.”

I pray that this man doesn’t become president by some fluke.

He just killed his campain with his idiotic critique of JFK’s speech back in 1960, about seperation of Church and State.

What did he say? Was it anything like this?

catholicnewsagency.com/news/jfk_speech_on_faith_was_sincere_but_wrong_archbishop_chaput_states/

*Recounting the historical context that led to the current state of affairs, Archbishop Chaput referred to a speech that the late John F. Kennedy made while running for president in 1960 which greatly affected the modern relationship between religion and American politics. At his speech almost fifty years ago, President Kennedy had the arduous task of convincing 300 uneasy Protestant ministers in a Houston address that his Catholic faith would not impede his ability to lead the country. Successful in his attempt, “Kennedy convinced the country, if not the ministers, and went on to be elected,” he recalled.

“And his speech left a lasting mark on American politics,” the prelate added.

“It was sincere, compelling, articulate – and wrong. Not wrong about the patriotism of Catholics, but wrong about American history and very wrong about the role of religious faith in our nation’s life.”*

Fair point. However, in the case of Ron Paul, it isn’t about “my guy” but a particular and consistent ideology which the Republican Party seems to disdain. But for the fact that Ron Paul runs as a Republican now, they wouldn’t give his ideology a second look. I don’t even know why he gave up his House seat and puts himself in those worthless debates.

Well the Bishop is wrong in what JFK actually said, read the speech for yourself.

However, Santorum stated that JKF’s statement that he believed that the separation of Church and state was absolute, made him want to throw up.

Kennedy was assuring the audience that his decisions as president wouldn’t be mandated by a prelate in his religiom.

One of the campaign smears by his opponents was that because he was Catholic, Kennedy would have to follow the orders from the Pope on policy making decisions.

Bill Maher give $1 million to Obama’s super Pac? The would have been better used if it had gone to Catholic Charities.

I don’t care what Ron Paul does, I just want the catholic supporters of Ron Paul to do something effective to stop Obama’s assault on the CAtholic church and religious liberty come election time - i.e. vote for the GOP candidate.

Yes, the charges against JFK’s Catholicism were ridiculous and should have been given no credence. He should have simply pointed out that “there shall be no religious test for public office.” No other presidential candidate has ever been asked to promise before a hostile group to essentially disregard his religion if he wants to be president.

Has anyone asked Mitt Romney to promise that his religion will have no influence on him? Did anyone ever ask Jimmy Carter to promise that his Baptist faith would have no influence on him?

I’ve read JFK’s speech, and I don’t see where Archbishop Chaput’s assessment is wrong…certainly not “idiotic.”

Exactly. I’m sure JFK meant well, but the way he worded his stance could be termed “idiotic.” 😉
