Cute, but not correct. It counts how things are said in context. You have put your own spin on this, but then, I suppose that is what you intended to do.

The Romney video will pass, and if this is their best attempt at a fall surprise for the election (ala, the revelation of Bush’s decades old DUI in October 2000), this isn’t nearly on the previous scales.

Both parties probably have 45-47% solidly. It is the 6-10% of confused voters who can;t make up their mind that they need to court.

In the end, how does Mitt Romney’s comments on anything explain the historically bad recovery we have been stuck in for four years? That is all on Obama.

Obama is good at putting the blame on the previous administration. If he is reelected, he will inherit another terrible mess.
 
If 47% of the population votes for Obama, Romney is in serious trouble. Because only about 50-55% of the population votes in any presidential election.
 
Mitt Romney’s comments do reminds us that around half of the population pays Federal taxes in the US. And that in it’s self can be problematic, as with so many replying upon a few wealthy individuals to pay a large portion of the nations taxes. With the down economy, and as a result fewer wealthy individuals, there are fewer people for the government to collect taxes on - support the entitlement programs.

Overall, enjoyed Dick Morris’s comments on this matter.

By stating this fundamental truth, albeit off the record, Romney has done a service for which he should be praised not excoriated. It all boils down to what John Kennedy said: There are those who ask what their country can do for you, and those who ask what you can do for your country.

Whether there is truth in Mr. Romney’s statement is not the issue…it’s all about how it plays on Main Street.

This is the reality. The Left seems to recoil in horror but it’s much like what Romney said in a public statement some months ago after the Fluke Flap. An idiotic young female said “What would make me happy is free birth control!” Romney responded, if you want free stuff from the government you have to vote for the other guy.

There is nothing new here, only a misinterpretation by the Left which is also nothing new. When Romney said he wasn’t worried about the 47% it was with respect to trying to get their votes. While that might be an overstatement, it simply points to the reality about certain groups. He’s not going to get single women with advanced degrees who worship at the altar of abortion…think Sandra Fluke. He’s not going to get most blacks or Latinos. He’s not going to get people dependent on government.

The ONLY reason this is news is to deflect attention to the fact the Islamic world is blowing up. We have had a terrorist attack on a Consulate with the murder of an Ambassador. The “green on blue” killings in Afghanistan are exploding. Meanwhile our economy is stalled, record numbers on government assistance, high unemployment, reduced standard of living, high food and gas prices.

But hey what about that VIDEO!!! The media stinks and I include Fox in the feeding frenzy as well. My only consolation is that this will blow over soon and they will find some new pointless crusade to promote.

These people generally don’t vote. They came out in drives when Obama first ran in '08. But they didn’t get their free stuff, so they’re back to their apathetic ways.

That’s why the Dems are so big on “get out the vote.” Too many of their base doesn’t vote.

Plus with voter ID laws going into effect, you’re going to have less voter fraud, which has traditionally been Democratic.

It appears that income & education are the biggest factors in determining who votes. The better your education & income, the more likely you are to vote.

Kind of scary that only about 30% of the population chooses our president.

Also ACORN is gone and I bet the New Black Panthers aren’t standing in front of the polling places this time.

I’ve heard a couple of Obama’s former supporting groups are not turning out for him this time. He’s lost a good chunk of the Jewish vote. He’s lost support among Catholics. He’s lost support among young voters. While he’ll still get a huge percentage of black votes, there are movements from black pastors to encourage their people to stay home this time as a result of his change in stance on gay marriage. So I do have some hope. I just wish we weren’t fighting the media tooth and nail.

SSI is welfare right? It gets back to the English Poor Laws and the Protestant Work Ethic that lies behind the thinking of the acceptability of public assistance by some Conservatives.

If you are see yourself, as the “worthy” poor- “blind, lame, widow, or orphan” then assistance is acceptable. These Conservatives tie issues of public monies to levels of morality of individuals. THey hold the “pick yourself up by your bootstraps, rugged individualism” type of thing. They would say “if you don’t work you don’t eat.”

I disagree. What I find scary is the people who don’t know the issues vote. Have you ever seen the exit polls of people being questioned by what a candidate said and guessed wrong?

So I take it you are for giving people aid even if they don’t need it?

It’s silly to claim that only Republicans want a safety net rather than a hammock. Even Democrats don’t like seeing their tax dollars going down a rathole. And given that conservatives are far more charitable (with their own money rather than wanting to distribute OPM) it’s pretty hard to claim they have no concern for those in need.
