johannes - you can thank American free-market capitalism for the higher standard of living we all enjoy today. For the advances in medicine. For the advances in technology which make our lives more convenient. Think: 80 years ago, how many homes had indoor plumbing? How many had a car? Food on the table? Such is the success of the American capitalist system that our “poor” people have a problem with obesity! It is due to the free market that the standard of living overall has improved dramatically.

Poverty will never be “eradicated.” There is no such thing as a perfect system. However, the American free market system is responsible for significan advances in the standard of living. You are presenting such a one-sided critique of our system which ignores the positive attributes of the system. What would you replace it with?

I think you are on the right track but I believe it needs to be from the ground up not the top down. We the people need a grass roots movement… revolution… of the soul… lots of souls that, when it reaches critical mass… carries the day. Barack Obama and the democrats, nor Mitt Romney and the republicans, will get it done. The people have to get it done. I will vote for Romney because of the chance/likelihood that he will appoint Supreme Court Justices that are like minded and he will support fiscal responsibility and be quasi-pro-life. But I have no false allusions abot our political system. It only rewards liars and cheats. Good honest people cannot get elected because we can’t handle the truth. We are in debt 16 tril and adding a tril a year to it and we go ballistic trying to cut 300 billion (5%). If you were in debt 6 times your salary, could you cut your budget 5%. Picking on republicans over wanting to cut spending is ludicrous. The math is bad. Major cuts have to be made. You can’t ignore the math.

But, we can do it. From the bottom up. If not us, who. If not now, when. (I know I use a lot of trite cliches but that doesn’t take away from their pithiness).

What Mitt’s camp outta do is ask for obamas school record. And obamas taxes. Bet they won’t disclose those.

That was for another poster who wanted to know how capitalism causes poverty. I know the system is not perfect. No man made system is. I recognize the good and the bad. I’m living proof of the opportunities this country provides and what one can achieve. And I dont dismiss nor blind myself to the problems capitalism causes by blaming the poor like a lot of people do. FYI Even the pope has critized western capitalism. I posted link further back if you were not aware of that fact.

Unfortunately God didnt give me the gift of genious economics to be able to figure out a better system. Wish I knew how the culture in Star Trek solved all these problems 🙂

Obama’s school record is relevant how exactly?

As for his tax returns, have a read here. Poor old Mitt should really follow suit.

A summary just raises the question: what is he so intent on hiding that he’d risk his chances of getting elected? :eek:

  1. They keep asking Romney for more returns, even though 2 years is the historical figure used
  2. If it isn’t a big deal, why is Obama spending money not to release them?

The school record and particularly the application would be interesting given that somehow this self described dope smoking slacker somehow got into Occidental and then Harvard. Did he cheat or lie on his application? Maybe he used “foreign student” classification or claimed some kind of racial preference. All of these possibilities are indications of character and integrity.

As to Romney, I don’t blame him for not wanting to spend the campaign fending off more lies, innuendos and irrelevant claims about minutia in his returns. Further there is a lot of information about other people in returns that those people may want to be kept confidential. Perhaps Romney could have offered redacted returns but then the Left would have seized upon that as suspicious.

He’s a rich guy. He makes a lot of money from investments that have favorable tax treatment. This is legal. Get over it.

Thats why thier are poor schools… they are ran by the government. If you want to screw something up… have the government do it lol. Seriously it does seem that way.

Anyways… dems/libs won’t believe us for the simple fact they’d have to admit they’re wrong.

Look at the group representing teachers in Chicago where 40% graduate. Many of these teachers were embarrassingly inarticulate. They make almost double the average income of other Chicago citizens. This is the fault of capitalism? Please tell me how that works!

How many of the folks in those public housing projects were the product of intact families whose parents graduated from high school, didn’t engage in substance abuse and worked? I bet you’d find very very few.

Capitalism would be the only hope for these people to get OUT of poverty. You are shooting darts at the wrong enemy

Take your own advice: Obama is president - get over it.

You want college records of an obviously highly intelligent man but would want the tax records of an obviously wealthy man redacted? Am I the only one who sees the inconsistency here?

Precisely. And yet the dems on here think he should release more? There is no pleasing some people, especially those with less than honest agendas.

You seethe when he doesn’t release enough info. You seethe when he releases inf. Obama had the right idea. Just deny and ignore the other party’s protestations, and eventually, it will get lost in the shuffle.
