Romney’s Mormon Mission was to France of all places and I saw the picture of him on his bike. I bike a lot. There is even one store on the web and there purpose is to furnish Mormons with their bikes, maybe wardrobe and things like that.
Yep have to say you can often identify young Mormons in their missions. Who else wears a white shirt and tie while on a bike!

Obama tax return for your reading enjoyment. The Obamas had a relatively straightforward return. The major donation was to Fisher House which is admirable.

Interesting items:

Obama’s used a special method of figuring taxes to reduce their tax bill. Oh entirely legal but gee whiz…

Obamas has significant foreign income. It’s described as “Other Countries” so no identifying country. Gee whiz times two…what’s all the furor about Romney’s Swiss bank accounts? The horrors!!!

I’d suggest Mr and Mrs Obama get better investment advice. They have a HUGE capital loss carryforward…OOPS!

Get in touch with your inner nerd and happy reading!

FOREIGN INCOME??? Why isn’t that in the news?:eek::eek:

The answer to your question is self-evident. The media will not question anything the Community Organizer in Chief does. 😦 It might interfere with his ability to make the sky bluer, the oceans recede, etc. 🙂

President Obama is worth at least $16 million now, you know. None of these guys are poor, or anywhere near it. Nobody who runs for president is. How much does Obama personally donate and to whom?
I believe in Obama’s case we have several years of tax returns so we can check this information. Full disclosure has its advantages and disadvantages, but at least the tax record is out there for all who are interested to see. I realize, however, we don’t have Obama’s college transcripts, which everyone knows are the MOST important thing with regard to possible legal concerns, second only to obtaining Obama’s LEGITIMATE birth certificate.

I care as much about his tax returns as I do the transcripts frankly, in most cases. But either people want full disclosure, or they don’t.

The fact is in Romney’s case, he cannot win this battle against his opponents. They demand returns, and we see people on THIS VERY CATHOLIC WEBSITE chiding him for his choice of charitable donations, and accusing him of altering his returns to make his effective rate appear higher.

Romney is a successful man who eared a lot of money for being good at what he does. There is a segment of this population, which you don’t seem to fall into, that loathes him simply for the fact that he is wealthy. The left assures us that much of the opposition to Obama is due to his race, but won;t admit that there are many people that can’t stand people they perceive as having chances they did not. Envy isn’t healthy.

Romney could pay an effective tax rate of 75% and if he still has tens or hundreds of millions, people would resent him. Unfortunately, in the end of it all, that’s their problem, not anyone else’s.

I feel like a lot of the people that want to see his tax returns, want to mainly because of how much money he makes. Not that they have questions about deductions, Swiss Bank Accounts and the like. It sort of puts Romney on the spot.

I am tuned in to every details of these campaigns, but have never once looked at the released returns of any candidate. It’s one thing I just never cared much about, for either dems or Republicans.

Originally, these calls for tax returns were accompanied by voiced suspicion that he was not paying taxes at all or was using illicit methods to avoid taxes. Remember Harry Reid’s mysterious informant?

Now that it is clear that he really has been paying taxes, the dems need to shift the argument.

Meltzerboy are you a CPA? I didn’t refer to Mitt Romney wanting some nefarious activity hidden but that when you are in certain investments with others, although you may be a public person the others are not and thus do not want their personal or business information released. That Mitt Romney is running for President doesn’t mean everyone with whom he has a business relationship wants his/her name and investments made public. I’ve had to provide tax returns for court cases and we go through and redact information that refers to other people or private entities. There is a lot of information in large complex personal returns that discloses financial records of other people.

Ditto with charitable contributions. Many organizations do not want their donors made public and many donors do not wish to have their donations making the nightly news. Oh and before the suspicious minds here decide it’s because they are hiding something, no it’s often because they don’t want every other organization beating down their doors for a donation.

There is something wierd about Americans wanting to know others’ personal business as if privacy (which is mentioned as an excuse for aborting one’s child) is a concept that only applies to other people.

Mitt Romney’s assets are in a blind trust. His returns are prepared by a large, prestigious accounting firm that has ethical standards to uphold. Futher, preparers who knowingly violate tax laws, knowingly take positions that are illegal are subject to HUGE fines and sanctions. I seriously doubt if Price Waterhouse is going to risk the entire firm to hide some bogus deal by Mitt Romney.

Envy is an ugly emotion Meltzerboy and as I understand the Jewish faith it is among the most disgraceful of attitudes. It’s my opinion the resentment and envy rather than a sincere interest in Mitt Romney’s qualifications for President is the driving force here.

Thanks for the information, Lisa. I know tax returns are private, but it has become customary for Presidential (and Vice-Presidential) candidates to release several years of returns just to make sure there is no possible unethical or even illegal activity. Privacy concerns such as finances, as well as health issues, tend to become restricted when candidates are running for the major office of the land. Romney might have conformed to the tax-return disclosure practice but he chose not to, and thus I can understand how that might be viewed as a “red flag” to some, especially given the additional fact he is wealthier than most other candidates. At the same time, hard-core liberal and Democratic partisans are, not surprisingly, going to latch onto this issue as if it were the primary one, in an attempt to denigrate Romney’s integrity. This, I believe, is wrong. And then there are those, as you stated, who simply envy the rich no matter how charitable they are, and this too is wrong in my view. My own motivation is a curiosity and sincere interest in what Romney’s tax returns might reveal, probably incited by the MSM. However, I’m much more concerned, because it’s so much more important, what Obama’s administration may have known about the Embassy attacks three days prior to their occurrence. Despite my liberal political bias, I try to hold both parties accountable for their behavior, particularly when the leadership of our country is at stake.

I don’t believe it is customary to release “several years” of returns. That sounds like spin.

I would check Bush, Kerry, Dole, etc. I don’t think they released a whole lot of returns and Mitt released some I believe when he ran in '08 as well.

Here is a chart of Candidates releasing returns. Yes, Presidents George W. Bush and Clinton released a few for a number of years, the years they served as President.

taxhistory.org/www/website.nsf/Web/PresidentialTaxReturns?OpenDocument

I believe the above shows candidates for the President have NOT released several years of returns.
I notice McCain released only two years of returns when he ran for President. Did he release other years prior to that time when he ran for the Senate? Did Romney release returns when he ran for Governor of MA? If all of this is true, then I withdraw my initial criticism and regard the case as CLOSED.

I normally don’t care and don’t look at them, but then again, they usually don’t COLLECT A LOT OF FOREIGN CASH!!!:eek::eek:

They’re supposed to be representing US.

Obama’s school record is relevant how exactly?

As for his tax returns, have a read here. Poor old Mitt should really follow suit.

A summary just raises the question: what is he so intent on hiding that he’d risk his chances of getting elected?
Hi Seekerz, I asked the same question last night because like you I hadn’t a clue. I learned turns out his education has nothing to do with it. I didn’t think so because he has degrees and was head of the Harvard Law Review. He’s been the duly elected POTUS for nearly 4 yrs now. Affirmative action laws couldn’t possibly be it because even if they had played a role, nothing would have been illegal about that. So that’s a non issue.

They still think Hawaii is a foreign country and he was a foreign exchange student.

Oh gosh, is this still an issue?

I believe most put out a couple of years of returns. Further as usual the double standard is at work. Kerry who married vast wealth was never grilled about his earnings, tax rate, sources of income. As I recall there was some mention that Theresa Heinz Kerry commented that she paid little in taxes due to the source of her income. This inspired crickets chirping and yawns from the Left.

As someone put it well, it’s amazing people are more concerned with what Romney does with HIS OWN MONEY than what Obama is doing with our money. There is no logic just a desire to do anything possible to help Obama win. Mitt Romney’s returns comport completely with what we know of his financial activites and history. So the fascination with them and Harry Reid’s filthy lies from the floor of the Senate are baffling to me.

I have zero interest in Obama’s birth certificate. I think that tends to be a bit of a canard as there aren’t any ‘establishment’ Republicans who bring up the subject, just a few looking to get attention (Donald Trump for example). At this point it’s more grist for the joke mill than taken seriously by anyone.

Yeah but I’d rather have someone like President Obama in these times who at least has a background from which to understand the poor and the sick. His mother was on food stamps for a time. He watched her on her death bed struggle with private insurance companies. He passed up higher paying jobs for himself and worked on the streets of Chicago among the community right alongside Catholic parishes. Organizing things like job training, college prep, involved in tenants’ rights. Behind closed doors when he doesn’t think anyone is listening, Romney talks the talk about the 47% who are not his job to care about. Obama however has actually walked the walk with them.

His mother was the daughter of a bank vice president in Hawaii. And when they lived in Indonesia, they lived in the best neighborhoods and attended private schools. Don’t give me that sob story stuff. It’s malarkey.
