Me too. Let’s find out by not re-electing Obama.I hope so
johannes - you can thank American free-market capitalism for the higher standard of living we all enjoy today. For the advances in medicine. For the advances in technology which make our lives more convenient. Think: 80 years ago, how many homes had indoor plumbing? How many had a car? Food on the table? Such is the success of the American capitalist system that our “poor” people have a problem with obesity! It is due to the free market that the standard of living overall has improved dramatically.Deepening poverty has multiple causes, but the capitalist economic system is major among them. *First, capitalism’s periodic crises always increase poverty, and the current crisis is no exception. *More precisely, how capitalist corporations operate, in or out of crisis, regularly reproduces poverty. *At the top of every corporation, its major shareholders (15-20 or fewer) own controlling blocs of shares. They select a board of directors – usually 15-20 individuals – who run the corporation. These two tiny groups make all the key decisions: what, how, and where to produce and what to do with the profits.
Poverty will never be “eradicated.” There is no such thing as a perfect system. However, the American free market system is responsible for significan advances in the standard of living. You are presenting such a one-sided critique of our system which ignores the positive attributes of the system. What would you replace it with?Over the years, government interventions like Social Security, Medicare, minimum wage laws, regulations, etc. never sufficed to eradicate poverty. *They often helped the poor, but they never ended poverty. *The same applies to charities aiding the poor. *Poverty always remained. *Now capitalism’s crisis worsens it again. *Something more than government interventions or charity is required to end poverty. v
Yes. Okay. I’m sorry. Posting sassy is easy and tempting. I need to count to ten minutes before I reply… maybe…That’s not exactly what I said and I certainly don’t think Jesus is registered to vote in American or any country’s elections. What I said was if government offered help, a role to go along with, in addition to the charity of individuals and faith based groups, I don’t believe He would turn it down. Deep within my conscience and my soul, in the core of my heart, I simply will never believe that our Lord Who was most passionate in the mission to help the poor and the sick, would turn down such additional help if offered. That’s what I believe and no one is going to change my belief about it.
We need more than “hope” to change the laws. We need to vote for the most pro-life ticket running - that has a decent chance to win.I hope so
No problem. We’re all human. Sometimes even I count beyond 10.Yes. Okay. I’m sorry. Posting sassy is easy and tempting. I need to count to ten minutes before I reply… maybe…
Castellanos on tax summary: Is this a joke?
Alex Castellanos, the former Mitt Romney strategist from 2008 who has alternately been critical and praising of the current campaign, left no doubt where he stands on the decision to release a summary of the candidate’s tax rates over 20 years.
“At first I thought this was an April Fool’s Joke,” said Castellanos, who tweeted something to that effect at me earlier. “But it isn’t April. I can’t imagine that David Axelrod will now say, I’m glad Mitt put this issue behind him. This will drag Mitt’s taxes back into the debate. And there’s not many days left. I just can’t imagine why they would do this. There are 40 days left and you have now made more of them about Mitt’s taxes…you don’t serve a life sentence and then confess afterward. They’ve taken their beating on this (already) … I just don’t understand how a (being) ‘little pregnant’ strategy (works).”
Other Republican operatives have emailed in with a similar reaction - that the summary is going to revive, instead of settle, questions on an issue where what had seemed to be the worst was already behind Romney.

That was for another poster who wanted to know how capitalism causes poverty. I know the system is not perfect. No man made system is. I recognize the good and the bad. I’m living proof of the opportunities this country provides and what one can achieve. And I dont dismiss nor blind myself to the problems capitalism causes by blaming the poor like a lot of people do. FYI Even the pope has critized western capitalism. I posted link further back if you were not aware of that fact.johannes - you can thank American free-market capitalism for the higher standard of living we all enjoy today. A politician can’t be a politician if he doesn’t get elected. They have to say and do whatever they can to “win”. It’s an ugly dirty business. Romney was running in Massachussetts. What would you expect. You can’t get elected without Boston and you can’t win Boston without making concessions (if you are conservative). People not dealing with political realities and then coming back later and using them taunt is ignorant. Think. They are all dirty. You have to “discern” what what they say is real and what what they do is real, because a lot of what they say and do is not real… true… And since we hear what we want to hear to a certain extent, if you lean one way or the other, that’s the way you’ll go. These guys (their handlers) are good, real good. High end Madison Ave good. They know how to divide and conquer. They parse us out and work on the pieces parts. What is frustrating to me is that Catholics have so little voting power (so split) that we are being nearly totally discounted. Split the vote and work on other segments. We are a push.
We need to prove them wrong. Or, get used to being treated insignificantly.
The divisions are pretty obvious and seemingly unmoveable rendering us harmless./QUOTE
A lot of truth in what you are saying.
Obama’s school record is relevant how exactly? What Mitt’s camp outta do is ask for obamas school record. And obamas taxes. Bet they won’t disclose those.
Obama’s school record is relevant how exactly?
As for his tax returns, have a read here. Poor old Mitt should really follow suit.
A summary just raises the question: what is he so intent on hiding that he’d risk his chances of getting elected?![]()
- They keep asking Romney for more returns, even though 2 years is the historical figure used
- If it isn’t a big deal, why is Obama spending money not to release them?
Curioser and curioser…Several, by definition, implies more than two years.
The school record and particularly the application would be interesting given that somehow this self described dope smoking slacker somehow got into Occidental and then Harvard. Did he cheat or lie on his application? Maybe he used “foreign student” classification or claimed some kind of racial preference. All of these possibilities are indications of character and integrity.Obama’s school record is relevant how exactly?

Explain how capitalism is responsible for poor schools? Those are GOVERNMENTAL entities, paid for by tax dollars and operated by government employees.
While I agree that our education system is dreadful in some areas, but not because of capitalism because of Leftism and public teacher unions. Look at the group representing teachers in Chicago where 40% graduate. Many of these teachers were embarrassingly inarticulate. They make almost double the average income of other Chicago citizens. This is the fault of capitalism? Please tell me how that works!
How many of the folks in those public housing projects were the product of intact families whose parents graduated from high school, didn’t engage in substance abuse and worked? I bet you’d find very very few.
Capitalism would be the only hope for these people to get OUT of poverty. You are shooting darts at the wrong enemy

Take your own advice: Obama is president - get over it.The school record and particularly the application would be interesting given that somehow this self described dope smoking slacker somehow got into Occidental and then Harvard. As to Romney, I don’t blame him for not wanting to spend the campaign fending off more lies, innuendos and irrelevant claims about minutia in his returns. Further there is a lot of information about other people in returns that those people may want to be kept confidential. Perhaps Romney could have offered redacted returns but then the Left would have seized upon that as suspicious.
He’s a rich guy. He makes a lot of money from investments that have favorable tax treatment. This is legal. Get over it.

Hey, it was an honest mistake, but you have to admit that even if he is 7 feet tall with a beard like Moses, he answered to it.Miguel,
I have been lurking here and really enjoyed the laugh this gave me. It has gotten to be one of the funniest boo-boo’s I have seen in a while.
Nice reply, btw.![]()
How is he “an obviously intelligent man?”Take your own advice: Obama is president - get over it.
You want college records of an obviously highly intelligent man but would want the tax records of an obviously wealthy man redacted? Am I the only one who sees the inconsistency here?
BTW, I noticed no responses to post #818. Hmm…
Precisely. And yet the dems on here think he should release more? There is no pleasing some people, especially those with less than honest agendas.Castellanos on tax summary: Is this a joke?
