Your opinion of a particular tax provision is really not determinative. Anyone who doesn’t take advantage of all potential tax benefits is foolish. As a CPA you are supposed to be an advocate for your clients. I hope you don’t let your personal beliefs get in the way of preparing returns on your client’s behalf.

Lisa
Never have and never will, I always advocate for my clients, after all that is my job. Don’t have to like all aspects of my job though. Are you tire of these personal attacks yet? Why would you even sugges that?

Glad you were born with a silver spoon, most of us were not. I got through college on the GI bill, guess you think that was a bad program as well. Didn’t graduate until I was 30yo, lost some income earning years, my fault I guess. Point is, not sure what planet you are from, but equal opportunity is a myth. I wish I could have gone to college out of high school but I didn’t have your luck at birth. I do consider myself accountable for my decisions and do not consider myself a victim, just less fortunate. You may not think you are heartless but your words betray you. God bless, I will pray for you.,
Um you read way more into my post than was included. I was blessed with well EDUCATED parents, they were not well heeled. They emphasized the importance of education and certainly encouraged me to get a college degree.

I worked my way through college because my parents had significant financial problems due to my father’s alcoholism. When I was in college I lived in a house that had no heat and the ceiling was held up by a piece of wood. Because I was working full time and going to college it took me five years to graduate but I did graduate with high honors and passed the CPA exam with average scores of 92. I had five job offers before I graduated and that was during the Carter years.

So one does not need to be rich to work hard and succeed. When someone like Obama wants to credit roads and bridges for my college degree and CPA certificate or when someone like you assumes my life was easy, it rings pretty hollow.

You need to be a bit more charitable and don’t make such grand assumptions about people.

As to turning ordinary income into capital gain, it’s neither magic nor illegal. Buy a stock at $10 sell it the next week for $15 and you have ordinary income. Buy the same stock for $10, wait a year and a day, sell it for $15 and presto chango, it’s a long term capital gain.
And buy it at $10 and sell for $15 inside an IRA and eventually pay tax on the entire amount regardless of how long you hold it. And an added 10% if you withdraw before 59 1/2.

Romney is supposed to have $100 million sitting in an IRA. He won’t be very happy when he turns 70 and has to start withdrawing it. He has to work on getting the top tax rate cut. For himself if no one else.

Someone like me? You don’t even know me. All you know is we have different politics. But thanks for being charitable. By the way, while you were in you room without heat, I was in Viet Nam, we didn’t have heat either, and no ceiling.

In short - we’ve had a basically conservative or center-right country over the past few decades.
A problem with this Ishii is your party no longer has a center. It is far right extreme. Look at Romney. He never has moved to the center for the general. Still pandering to the far right and Tea Party in fear of losing their support. This is why I’m not convinced that Romney if elected will govern from the center. He’ll be too afraid of upsetting the Tea Party and far right and will fear a primary challenge in 16 or loss of just enough of his base to cost him a 2nd term if he is even elected to a 1st.

OTOH this is why those who speak of Obama having a Democratic controlled Congress early in his 1st term miss the point. As another poster said, Obama made the left unhappy at times in his first term either for being more centrist or moving too slowly. Besides the Senate 60-vote threshhold allowing minority Republicans to block bills, one of the reasons for instance the country did not have single payer on the table nor even a public option in the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare is because centrist and conservative Democrats and liberal Democrats don’t always agree.

IOW a bigger tent. But it does seem united now for this election. God bless and peace.

But it does seem united now for this election.
The Republicans were united as long as they could get away with saying “no.” Now that they are forced to offer some real plans of their own, they go off making secret videos.

Amen brother, could be why he is running.

They are related in the contrast to how Romney sprung onto action, forming a plan, executed it with a positive end.Obama, too busy campaigning,to even plan ahead of 9/11 anniversary,to insure the safety of our people working at the Embassy. Then, after the fact, does nothing but go back to trotting across the country to campaign more.A true statesman would have suspended campaigning for at least a few days,to honor those lives lost. All Obama has done for the most part in the last four years is campaign. He likes all the props that come with being the president, yet sure doesn’t seem too interested in actually doing his job.
If Obama were Republican, they would be welcoming his foreign policy with open arms.

Why not a combination of federal, state, and local governmental aid to people in need, in addition to private charity? Why does it have to be one or the other?
.

It isn’t. Certainly not the federal government’s duty.

Besides, government cannot create wealth. All government can do is tax, print money or borrow.
Life is an entitlement, as are liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That’s in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.
That doesn’t mean government can afford to do the whole job alone. But if government is not at all involved, what are we paying taxes for: ONLY defense, wars, infrastructure, and abortion?
Aside from abortion, that’s exactly right. The federal government should only protect the nation from foreign invasion, settle disputes between the states and conduct itself in a very limited fashion.

Abortion is murder.
I said the right to access in my original post. However, one has to have the means to access health care, food, and shelter.
When government gets involved in these things, people’s access gets restricted. Try providing shelter to people in a city that has countless ordinances or requires union labor or won’t let you have a lemonade stand or raw milk.

That’s why cannibalism was occurring in Soviet states. But did government care? Not really. Why? Because it’s fair. That’s all that matters. This example was noted by Glenn Beck.

The same is true with health care in places like Canada and the UK. The price control that government uses is rationing of services.

People will get access to all of those things if government gets out of the way. Health care benefits originated in the private sector. It’s not as if one day government woke up and said “hey! Let’s help people with medical issues!”

**Government gets in the way of everything you say you want to do, and if you’d actually get out more and do it, you’d undoubtedly experience it for yourself. **

If you knew anything about Romney he has not made every decision with respect to how much he will make personally. He took no salary when governor of Mass nor when he saved the Olympics from financial disaster. After he lost the 2008 Republican nomination to John McCain he was offered a $30,000,000 a year job at another financial firm. He turned it down.

He has spent MANY more millions of his own money running for President than he could ever save in taxes.

Why people believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that Mitt Romney is running for President to save on taxes is beyond my powers of imagination? Until the tax rates are 100% there is an upside to withdrawing money and paying the taxes.

I think he’s running for President because he cares about America and his family. He’s seen what four years of Obama have done to this country and I am certainly appreciative of his efforts to save us from this stuffed shirt.

Sorry Lisa, this is getting as nasty as the political ads. Romney pays less than 13% by a questionable tax maneuver. Is that fair? And no, I don’t advocate slavery. I just think that people in business have an obigation to their employees to provide health insurance. I was in practice for over 30 years and always offered health care benefits. Didn’t make me feel like I was a slave.
Well nasty doesn’t surprise me after seeing in post #306 words such as silly, stupid, naive and nuts. But no I don’t believe it’s fair and God bless you for thinking you had an obligation to provide health care coverage. Peace.

A problem with this Ishii is your party no longer has a center. It is far right extreme.
Bwahahaha! :rotfl: You know I can agree with that if I was a Democrat, because the further the Left you guys go…the more “right” the Republicans look like. 😉
Look at Romney. He never has moved to the center for the general. Still pandering to the far right and Tea Party in fear of losing their support.
I guess the whole thing about him saying “Obama’s not just doing the job” instead of some of the things you hear the “fringe” say and “I will keep the parts of Obamacare that help the Middle Class” is not counted as being “center”, but once again has Obama moved to the center with his “You didn’t build that comment” and Joe Biden’s “They gonna put you all in chains”?
This is why I’m not convinced that Romney if elected will govern from the center. He’ll be too afraid of upsetting the Tea Party and far right and will fear a primary challenge in 16 or loss of just enough of his base to cost him a 2nd term if he is even elected to a 1st.
Well that’s a fair concern if you’re a Democrat, but let’s be honest, Obama has done everything but govern from the center. However I think if you speak to a lot of Conservatives, our fear is that Romney will operate from the center.
OTOH this is why those who speak of Obama having a Democratic controlled Congress early in his 1st term miss the point. As another poster said, Obama made the left unhappy at times in his first term either for being more centrist or moving too slowly. Centrist? Being a Democrat at that time, what I saw during the PPACA bill was Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid pushing the bill and Obama acting like an aloof lame-duck who couldn’t care if it passed or failed. I think what you described is not so much Obama being a ‘centrist’ as much as being a bad executive.
IOW a bigger tent. But it does seem united now for this election. God bless and peace.
Maybe the Democrats are more united for this election, but I think that has more to do with the Democrat party being more “pure” as many Democrats like me were pushed out. Anyways God bless you too.

Power, fame and money, sorry, that is my opinion. Big feather in his cap to have been president, same for anyone else, including Obama. You thing maybe his politics helped his book sales? That’s where his money came from. Tax dollars at work marketing. They are pretty much all the same, sold out to special interests and intoxicated by greed and power.

I always get the “agree to disagree” from my liberal relatives when have no interest in debating issues with people who disagree with them.
I can’t speak for your relatives and your own situation but I know I end up with “agree to disagree” when someone uncharitably puts my views down with words such as silly, stupid, naive and nuts.

If Obama were Republican, they would be welcoming his foreign policy with open arms.
If Obama were really a republican, and not just a RINO, the character assassins would be out in full bloated force.

Obama would undoubtedly be called an Uncle Tom, a sell out to his race and a Black man who knows his place.

The mainstream media would be bidding to get interviews with Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Father Pleger, Bernadine Dorn and Bill Ayers and this stuff would be in the headlines through the election.

They’d be the new Levi Johnstons.

The media would probably also open a series of investigations into the claims that some Caucasian guy on youtube is making that he and Barack Obama were a sexual item.

Finally, they’d be going after his family, including his kids. The might even tell him he needs to broaden his horizons by having sex with someone of a different skin colour (yes, I know, it’s the end-all, be-all for some on the left) despite being married.

So basically, if Obama were a republican, he’d be experiencing the same thing that other minority conservatives experience, like Michelle Malkin, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain go through even today.
