👍 I know. But maybe the other one is the Repub Party.
It’s just basic civility and the fact that some around here purposely use the term “Democrat Party” knowing that is is derogatory only shows how fundamentally unable or unwilling to take a balanced view they are.

Oh no… Let it not be me who will defend your country here because you will find a hard headed one on this issue.
Without messing with your budget or politics,as a people you are very responsive. And this not to flatter,it is true.
Actually I had thought that the US was extremely generous in charitable giving, more than other countries, until I read something some years ago about how Europeans give a much higher percent of their income to charities than Americans do. I think it’s just that there are a lot of Americans and a lot of really rich Americans, so it may be that Americans are giving more, but not per capita per income more. I was actually shocked by that. Also I grew up after WWII, when the US was helping Europe recover from the war, so I grew up with this idea that Americans are generous and charitable…so it was a real shocker to find out we are not, comparatively speaking.

It does help identify that the talking point is coming from a right-wing talk radio host.

Not one single candidate in this election nor either political party suggests the government should not be involved in helping the poor and needy. However on the Democrat side we have a candidate who at least in the past has suggested that private charity should not be involved in helping the poor and needy. You tell me who the extremist is?
What I get out of the story is not so much that private charities should stay out of helping as the gov (we the people) should get more involved and take over the basic and necessary aids, rather than leaving it up in the air for charities to haphazardly serve some and ignore others. The article states, “Sanders stated that he didn’t believe in charities, suggesting that the government should take over their function in delivering social services.”

I totally agree and am willing to pay more taxes to that end…and continue giving to private charities and doing charitable work.

We also need “voluntary civil service” to surge up again, where we donate our time and talents to gov programs to help the poor and needy. That’s what they do in many other countries. I’ve heard how this was common in the US during WWII.

We don’t call people of the liberal party Democratic. We say they are a Democrat. He/she is a Democrat or he/she is a Republican. It is only derogatory when one is looking for something to be peeved about, which seems to be too many of us these days. And as an aside, there is nothing democratic about the party of that name. One must march in lock-step to the party line to be acceptable. These days you are expected to be a far left liberal. It is not the party I grew up in, that’s for sure.

You can believe that if you want to. Just know that I will join the resistance against Sanders if he gets elected as a Catholic.
Well I have no doubt. That’s what many CAF Catholics do on the news forum. They oppose Democrats. If not for Pope Francis and posters such as Lily Bernans and others, I’d sometimes think the Church has become a wing of the Republican Party.

The article states,
Charities in the private sector cannot afford to act haphazardly because they are bound by the free-market system. Government is not, which is why nonsense like the “War on Poverty” has done nothing to reduce the number of poor people.
“Sanders stated that he didn’t believe in charities, suggesting that the government should take over their function in delivering social services.”

No doubt. So what’s the real reason? Having government do it all because there are people who don’t want to get their hands dirty and think they are “helping” by pulling the lever for the DNC or some other liberal politician every 2-4 years?
I totally agree and am willing to pay more taxes to that end…and continue giving to private charities and doing charitable work.
Willing to pay more? Anyone can pay more! Sean Hannity overpays on his taxes all the time, and he still doesn’t get any cred from the left!

If someone wants to pay more in taxes, they already can. Does anything think the government won’t take it and spend it?

In many other countries young people are required to serve in the military. And as far as WWII, patriotism and saving the world in the LITERAL sense was motivating people. If the culture isn’t like today, give credit to liberalism and the left-wing media for promoting dependency and attacking the United States all too frequently.
