I always thought many people would go to Purgatory but this makes it seem impossible for us to avoid Hell.

Add the imperfect contrition and death before confession means I don’t stand a chance.

Would it not have been better if none of us were ever born?

I feel more depressed now than when I went through my illness as a young man.

An Unpublished Manuscript on Purgatory

Excerpt :

I can tell you about the different degrees of Purgatory because I have passed through them. In the great Purgatory there are several stages. In the lowest and most painful, like a temporary hell, are the sinners who have committed terrible crimes during life and whose death surprised them in that state. It was almost a miracle that they were saved, and often by the prayers of holy parents or other pious persons. Sometimes they did not even have time to confess their sins and the world thought them lost, but God, whose mercy is infinite, gave them at the moment of death the contrition necessary for their salvation on account of one or more good actions which they performed during life. For such souls, Purgatory is terrible. It is a real hell with this difference, that in hell they curse God, whereas we bless Him and thank Him for having saved us.

The scariest and most depressing thing is when God does not talk to me. How is this not rejection?

This is not the dark night of the soul, the dark night of the senses precedes that.
This is not the dark night of the senses, consolations and joyful encounter with God precedes that (and I never had that!)

I mean, could you please give me scriptural support for the above?
Links don’t interest me, sorry. I’d like to know where GOD says the above.

Thanks.

Every morning you wake up and can think of something to thank God for si a joyful encounter with God.

If you had none, you’d be living in hell.

And I know for sure you’re not because you’re alive and posting.

Carrying a cross is not a joyful encounter with God. It is not joyful, nor is it an encounter with God.
If you had none, you’d be living in hell.
So life is hell. Or at least the temporal part.

Carrying a cross is not joyful. I have a couple of serious ones myself. But while carrying them, I can be joyful that I know God. Could you imagine if I didn’t? The encounter had to have happened at some point in life or you wouldn’t be lonely at not feeling God’s presence. Remember that. Sometimes a memory is all we have to go by. Sometimes God seems very far away. Sometimes I do wonder why He allows what He does. But I know I can’t understand it and accept it and move on.

Satan is the prince of the air. We’re living in his territory. But we don’t need to give him any joy by being upset with God!

“Lord, to whom shall we go? Only You have the words of life.” John 6:68 after some disciples had abandoned Him due to a teaching and Jesus asked the apostles if they were going to abandon Him too.

Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us to pick up our cross and follow Him. Our challenges here are temporary, when we resist sin and pray we grow stronger.

May our Lord help you to see the infinite love He has for you.

(Don’t try to analyze your spirituality and where you are in the Lord… find a priest you have good spiritual rapport with and talk to him.)

The link wasn’t for you, if you believe in Purgatory you would easily understand these writings.

Am I not allowed to comment??? I see others do this.

There are so many theological problems with your post that I hesitate to get into it.

To say nothing of the fact that you’re sending it to a person who’s afraid of going there and/or to hell.

It starts out by saying that someone who has been there has come back and is telling about it. They have actually passed through the different degrees of purgatory? Interesting. I just was wondering who this person could be.

An unpublished manuscript. Who could have written such things? It’s possible to go there and come back to tell of it?

I keep hearing non-believers say that no one has come back from the dead to tell them how it is on the other side. I think it would be interesting to know who wrote this.

Scriptural support would be nice too. But, know what, you aren’t going to find any.

So maybe I believe in purgatory and maybe I don’t; that’s not for you to know or care about. We should be careful, however, to post what is accurate as to the theology of our church and what our church teaches.

If it’s an opinion, and not church teaching, it should be stated clearly. I mean if you want to believe that a nun can speak to a soul in purgatory that is your prerogative, but please don’t pass it on as church teaching.

I understand what you are saying, its private revelation just like the Rosary is private revelation, notice there are other private revelations on this thread .

PS The Bible says 8 people have come back from the Dead, plus all the people that came out of their Tombs at Jesus Death.

This is interesting. Here you seem to portray that you believe that Scripture is the same as “God” saying.

I just read another post of yours where you claimed that maybe not all the Levitical rules were from God…that maybe “man got in there” a little too much.

So what happens to a Catholic locked in one of those awful prisons in North Korea who may commit a mortal sin and then be very sorry and ask God for forgiveness, if there is no priest and therefore no confession, what happens to them?

They go to heaven Nelka. You worry too much.
Jesus did all the worrying for you.
He hung on that cross for you
So your sins could be forgiven
So He could redeem you
Redeem means to buy back
From SIN, from satan’s hold on us

Someone is going to post that you can’t commit a mortal sin if you’re in prison. That’s not even the point - and maybe it is possible, I don’t even want to think about it.

Do you not believe that JESUS saves you? Do you think you’re going to heaven because you’re so perfect or because you did everything just right? Do you not believe that God is bigger than we are and since He created us, he knows our heart and whether or not we deserve to be with Him? So you think if you can’t get to confesson you’re doomed? Aren’t you the one who brought up perfect and imperfect contrition? You’re still worried???

Read you signature line. If He’s dwelling in your heart, why would you not go to be with Him?

Fran

Jesus made an effort to teach that not all the rules in the O.T. were valid.

For instance, He was accused of breaking the Law when He was picking at wheat one Sabbath and eating it. He told the pharisees that it’s more important to pay attention to what comes OUT of the mouth than to what goes INTO it.

Do you think Jesus wanted to break the Laws? Could it be that He didn’t think this one was valid?

I mean, have you read Leviticus? And you think God actually wanted all that stuff done?

I believe in the bible 100%, but I do think that maybe man got some stuff in there too.
I’d say that Jesus agrees with me.

What about divorce? In the beginning in Genesis God made man and woman to be together. At Moses’ time, divorce was permitted. Which is right?
Jesus said divorce is NOT permitted.

See. Not so easy. I’m not being disrespectful to the Word of God. Just stating facts.

ù

What do you mean, Game Over?

So you don’t believe in God anymore?

But you stil call yourself a Catholic?

To me that means you still believe in God. Take the word “believe” to mean whatever you will. So you’re upset with God. That’s good. You can’t be upset with someone you don’t care about.

Read John 6 many times. That’s how God speaks to us. With His word. His word is what is writen in the N.T. That’s all speaking to God is. You can take it or leave it. I say take it.

Fran

Let’s leave it at this. I know about the people who came back, but we limit what we know about them to what is written in the O.T. and the N.T.

Everything about the rosary is biblically based and there is no private revelation in any of the mysteries. That the idea was from a private revelation is fine - it’s in keeping with church teachings re the outcome of that revelation and it’s stated as such.

The thing about purgatory is totally speculative.

God bless
Fran

Jesus made an effort to teach that not all the rules in the O.T. were valid.
No, Fran, He did nothing of the kind. On the contrary, he validated ALL that was written, and fulfilled it.

Matt 5 17*“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Do you see Jesus “invalidating” anything here?

This is an example of you asserting something that contradicts the Scriptures and the Teachings of the Church.

It was neither, Fran. He was not criticizing the law itself, but the attitude of the Pharisees in the application of it.

Matt. 23 1Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, 2“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; 3so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. 4They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.

God’s laws about the Sabbath were created so that man could rest from his labors, and have time to focus on spiritual and family growth. Jesus and the Apostles were not “harvesting” on the sabbath (just getting a snack). He was criticizing their LEGALISM in how they understood and applied the Law, not the Law itself. On the contrary, he affirmed the Sabbath law:

Mark 2 27And he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; 28so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath.

When Jesus is Lord, there is no legalism. 😉

Why would I not? The Church teaches us that this book is part of the inspired and inerrant Word of God. Have you appointed yourself the judge of what God actually wanted based on your reading of the text? That sounds like something a protestant would do…
I believe in the bible 100%, but I do think that maybe man got some stuff in there too.
I am sorry, but this just does not hang together. Either it was contaminated by human error, or it was divinely preserved from error. If you "believe 100% then it is one, or the other.
I’d say that Jesus agrees with me.
Well of course! We all want to believe Jesus agrees with our opinions.
See. Not so easy. I’m not being disrespectful to the Word of God. Just stating facts.

Fran
It is a mistreatment of the Scriptures for individual believers to pick and choose which sections are contaminated by human error, and which parts are divinely inspired.

Your “FACTS” are things you have read that seem to you to be contradictions because you suffer from black and white thinking. The Word of God does not contradict itself. It is our perceptions that are contrary.

The 15 Promises of the Rosary came from a person (Mary) who came back from the Dead, and told a living person ( St.Dominic) this information.
