Saw something yellow near the road while driving to work.

Realized it was daffodils.

Spring is here I think although it could snow later this week.

I’ve never grown anything but grass from seeds … always buy established plants … my favorite for the buckets surrounding my deck are lantana …

I’m definitely going to plant some bulbs this fall…crocus, daffodils, maybe tulips and hyacinth! The neighbors daffys are blooming now as are the crocus. I think I saw some hyacinth about to flower two doors over…I’ll know in another day or two.

Cleanup on my beds is starting this week end if not sooner. My teenage grandson needs the exercise! I’ll get a better picture of what’s starting to green up then and can plant my seeds! Yay…can’t wait.

They come in orange and yellow too … I love them … always have a hard time picking the color I want for the season.

I love then, too!
I’ve never found them hard to grow…soil differences?

I think it may also depend on the temperature … they are a hot weather plant.

Aha! Maybe that is my problem. Not enough sun.

Or not enough water. 🤨

Lantana does great in full sun … never has a problem as long as you water once a day.

Never grew them from seeds … always buy an established bush.

I love buying potted plants but it’s so expensive if you wish to do a large area. And, for some reason, the bunnies like to attack ant freshly planted bush or shrub…they think it’s a new item on the menu! 😂

My annual Mothersday ritual is to go to a nearby nursery and but the plants for my two big pots on my porch…I usually wind up with a few “extras” to plant as well…petunias always call out to me…such happy flowers and so easy to grow! I have a sinking feeling that the annual ritual will be canceled this year!

Since we are staying at home…I have been working in my garden. I have been pulling some Monkey Grass that have overgrown my flower beds. I was doing this all day yesterday and decided not to kneel, but just stoop and this helped! My knees are not hurting! if it doesn’t rain tomorrow, I shall continue with this project…Little Chloe joins me outside and hunts lizards. I have had to rescue several from her because I don’t want her to kill them… 🐕 🦎

I think I am going to plant my zinnia seeds today or tomorrow! Got a bunch of toilet paper rolls saved and ready to cut up and fill with potting soil, and also a few egg cartons. Wish me luck!

What’s everyone else up to these days?

I got a few tomatoes and a couple of eggplant into the ground yesterday.

But I cheated, and just pulled the dead plants from last year out, added fertilizer, and used the already amended soil . . .

btw, due to the hothouse, last year’s tomatoes are already producing . . .

My husband finished aerating the yard today…except where the snow is still piled up next to the driveway. We hit 70 F today and I think will again tomorrow. The ground is definitely moist enough to pull some dead vegetation and my little seed packets are calling out my name when I walk by them! My granddaughter should be done with her homeschooling by noon, so…a little lunch and off we go!

I ordered a Lady of Shallot rose bush from David Austin. It arrived yesterday and I need to plant it today! It will be in the area where my tulips were blooming.

Today I am still in the process of pulling up the monkey grass that has invaded my garden…I also replanted some white Mexican Heather…this is an absolutely beautiful plant by my Virgin Mary statue…with a garden light nearby…among two markers of my dear Chihuahua pups of long ago…with Saint Francis in the corner…Amen! 😔
