I don’t plant annuals, but I tend and water the perennials. Here’s what’s happening in one part of the backyard now.

I know they’re geraniums, but I’m not certain of the type. Whenever a branch breaks off we put it the ground or a planter somewhere else and now they’re all around the house. They do get leggy, though.

I had a tray of zinc ia seedlings looking good in the window of daufhters bedroom, they were about 3 weeks old. My cat found her way In there and ate every single leaf . Dead zinnias.
Never been so mad at a cat.
Replanted yesterday. Lol

Does anyone know what this poor half alive Bush could be ? I discovered it while weeding beside the house yesterday. We have only lived here a year in August so I’ve never noticed it before.
It’s in a terrible spot, planted in basically gravel, its impossible to plant st the base of my house, it seems the layout of gravel and cement extends for a couple of feet. I could possibly find a different spot for the grill if I think this thing could survive with a little sun and water. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
If it’s worth saving I will try to do so.

Whatever it is, it is in a bad spot. Look at the size of that trunk that has been cut back. It appears to be something that you will need to keep cutting back, whatever it is. I think it is too close to the house. And concrete slab, and it’s roots may not be doing your foundation any good. I would remove it completely. And plant something that you know won’t outgrow the space.

As far as it being all gravel there. You could dig it out and bring in new soul, or use long boards to build a raised bed there and grow in that. Lots of lovely examples on Pinterest! 😉

Ok, I kinda thought it looked hopeless. But since I don’t have any established plants I thought it could have a chance with some TLC. But yeah who wouldn’t plant right in the corner or slab?!! I will try to remove or saw it down.

How are your zinnia seedlings ?

We will be planting (name removed by moderator)atients on the border of front. I have a professionally made front garden…with weeping cherry and Japanese maples. We followed the pro who previously owners did.
In the back I have 2 trees (apple) to be removed.
We grow tomatoes, basil, and peppers for veggies. We have abovortia trees (spelling) surrounding our brick patio and we get some lovely plants and flowers for that. We have 2 birches and 4 magnolia trees. In the back.
I just ordered a black umbrella to go with our beige patio set.
A have a rose bush and just got a baby rose plant. I really want some wisteria to climb the fence. Thank you @irishmom2 for this lovely and happy thread.

I’m not by any means an expert but it looks like it is a shrub oak. It may have never been planted there but just a lucky seed blown by the wind…

Whatever it is, it’s kind of hopeless. It shouldn’t remain there and replanting will probably not succeed anyway. You could try doing a cutting, putting it in water until it grows roots, then replanting it somewhere else but the effort probably isn’t worth it. If it’s in the shrub oak family, you probably don’t want it in your yard anyway. They are slow growing but ramble looking things. They are wonderful for wildlife in undeveloped areas…nice neat yards…not so much!

I will try to remove or saw it down.
It looks like it has been cut down before. I would do it again and keep a close eye on new growth. Rip off any suckers that grow from the stump as soon as you see them. it will completely die off eventually.

I have finally pulling out all of the invasive Monkey Grass! I have replanted my Mexican Heather…then I starting my purple leaved Cannas and just look what was sleeping while I was working…

How precious is he! God’s little gift for my garden!

A gift.

I welcome spiders, frogs and toads in my garden.

They keep the bugs under control.

I think I picked a quart or so of cherry tomatoes yesterday, including one pepper and a couple of yellow pear tomatoes.

I’m noticing that last years plants don’t have much down low, though.

I guess I’ll cut half of them down to a foot or so come winter time.

(and this year, I’ll have that window so that the bees can fertilize on warm days)

and now the blackberries are flowering, and at least some varietals of the grapes have their tiny clusters . . .

(gosh, I sure hope that the grape varieties stagger themselves and ripen a couple of weeks apart . . . or I’ll be spending a fortune on equipment for fermenting . . .)

Another of God’s gifts…so precious!
