In what way? Other than prove we have the right to be tasteless I fail to see what the purpose of her contest was.

It showed that some speech is freer than other speech. It highlighted how in this case, unlike the **** Christ/Mary made of Dung/Book of Mormon which are embraced as exercises in free speech, we must blame the victim of the attack. We should validate the actions of the violent by encouraging their targets to just shut up.

Yes, of course out law it! A law to kill is not a law but a travesty of a law. Pray, and support all who are sacrificing their lives daily to protect life by working in so many unseen ways to stop abortion. Great organizations out there – support priests who have the courage to speak out against abortion, contraception and any immoral act happening in our society today. Ask priests who do not speak about these issues in homilies when it is appropriate, why they don’t. Make it known to politicians that you care more about life then the economy.

I’d compare the contest in Texas to a protest. I would expect the same thing if any other club or organization began seizing land, cutting peoples heads off and trying to enforce their agenda on the general public by force.

Pamela Geller has definitely shown what cowards the main stream media is when it comes to open debate and free speech. Their signing on the meme CAIR put out, blaming the victim, as if the dead of the World Trade Center needed to apologize to the hijackers. Geller gets it and they don’t, this is a war for the rights of freemen and free women to live their lives as they see fit, without kowtowing to a radical imam and the perpetually easily offended psychotic elements of the human race.

There is no, I believe in the freedom of speech but…. This is a fight for the rights of Americans not to be tyrannized by the sharia law crowd.

OK -- If you live in a fully Catholic country (meaning only Catholics live there) and a Muslim comes into your town where you are having a contest to draw Muhammad and he pulls out a machine gun and starts killing people -- How did he get there and how dare he kill others because of our freedom of speech. I believe in protecting life and ignorance is not bliss when we do not understand the middle east mentality of Islam and radical Islam. We do not live in a Catholic country. We have many Islamic believers and surly we have seen that we have militant, radical Islamic believers who do seek to bomb and kill. You can "smoke" them out but when you are in a fire already -- putting gasoline on it might cause a very big catastrophe. Old saying you can do more with honey then vinegar when it comes to working with bees. We are all living together and we need to find a way to work for peace. Yes, may the FBI find all the terrorists in our land and deport them or put them in jail but so far the FBI has some difficulties in knowing what to do with suspected terrorist. By the time the terrorists have acted the news reports say: The FBI had their eye on this guy for a number of years.

The reason that militant Islamists use violence is because violence works.

One only has to look at Pope Benedict, who said something dumb about Islam, and people died.
That have him grovelling and shut him right up for the rest of his term, which was never the same after the violence. And now the Vatican shrilly denounces blasphemy against any depictions of Mohammed, as if iconoclasty was no longer considered a heresy.

One contest that defies this violence will not do anything. A hundred thousand posters of Mohammed on a hundred thousand street corners will send a clearer message that we are not iconoclasts, and that we do not follow the dictates of the Islamic religion of a false prophet.

That would not even take the courage that Pamela Geller displays. It would only take solidarity.

The Catholic Church will not be a leader in this however. It is clear that the Catholic hierarchy has already submitted to a dhimmi role in their relations with the Islamists.

I think you fail to understand, without freedom of speech there is no freedom of religion or any other freedom. Open debate is vital for the survival of freemen and women. And yes, 200 years later, it is still being defended with blood and sacrifice.

TEPO, the more I read your posts the more firmly I am convinced that this whole carton contest was deliberatly staged by some to try and “wake up people.”
If you and others beleive these kind of things need to happen in order to “wake people up” I beleive you are gravely mistaken. Just because people choose to not “antagonize” or “smoke out” the extremist and instead seek other more peaceful ways of dialoge or make a statement or point does not necessarily mean they need to “wake up!” In fact I do beleive that it could be said that you and others of like mind are really the ones who need to “wake up.” But then we would be stuck in this childish argument of accusing each other of who really needs to wake up that just keeps goin back and forth to see who can say the last word. I do beleive that is why earlier posters have dropped out of this discussion. This discussion, like so any others here at CAF, has been reduce to just that notated how many words or ways you try to present it.

I don’t know about others and it may be wrong and God forgive me if it is but I know I have to follow my conscience right now and all I can say is I pray to Jesus to please give me the strength to willingly sacrifice my freedom of speech, my dignity, and even my life before I ever resort to tactics such as what was used in this “Cartoon Contest.” If that labels me as being too “cowardly” a “nihilist” and a “pacifist” or needing to “wake up” by some. So be it. I understand they have the freedom to do what they do just like I have the freedom to do what I do and I trust in God that all things work unto good in the end.

Why am I rambling like this? I guess the only point I am trying to make is that just because others don’t agree with you and your point of view or understanding or way of handling things does not necessarily mean they need to “wake up.” I read some place recently that Pope Francis said Martyrs do not use fists. I wish Incould remember exactly were so that I could share. I don’t beleive he was only referring to physical fists but we could sit here arguing about this too so I’ll just shut up and leave.
