Believe what you want, guanophore, but according the Scripture the righteousness required by God did not, nor cannot, come through the Law. The Scriptures are clear on this:Rom 3:21-24 “But now apart from the Law {the} righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even {the} righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;”I believe these righteous Jews were so because if grace, through faith. They were able to be blameless because of their faith.
Gal 3:21-22 "For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe."You can’t see the truth of this glorious statement because you refuse to believe that God imparts righteousness (His righteousness) through faith in Christ alone. Contrary to the Word of God, you think righteousness is based on you being divinely aided to fulfill lawful commandments. But the Scripture has shut up all men “under sin,” and all that any law could do is make this painfully evident.
In fact, that was the whole purpose of the Law: That through the commandments ("thou shalt not…") sin became “utterly sinful” (Rom. 7:13) in that through the Law the sinner also became a transgressor against definite commandments. Those under the Law were not only sinners (as were Gentiles) but now, through the commandments, revealed to be transgressors as well - rendering sin utterly sinful; reflecting the utter hopelessness of all mankind. And as Jesus pointed out, transgression of the Law is not only an outward action but an inward thought as well. Remember, we’re dealing with an infinitely holy God who demands perfect righteousness.
Hence, righteousness must be based entirely on a principle other than Law: That of FAITH. That’s what the gospel of Jesus Christ is all about.Gal 3:23-24 "But before faith came, we (Jews) were kept under the law (Gr. phroureo, “metaphorically, under the control of the Mosaic law, that he might not escape from its power, Thayer), being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor (not as a means of righteousness) {to lead us} to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.”
Gal 3:25-26 “But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor (i.e., the Law). For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.“Totally contrary to the teachings of Catholicism, the righteousness required for salvation does not in any way come through the principle of law keeping (whether divinely aided or not), but it is gifted by God on the principle of faith (in Christ) alone:”…the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith” (Phil. 3:9).
I know, guanophore. That’s the teaching of Catholicism. But Divine Revelation clearly teaches us that the righteousness required for salvation is not based on the principle of Law - period, but the principle of grace through FAITH.I am not arguing the position that one can be justified by works of the Law. I am saying that grace, through faith, enables one to fulfill the Law.
