Something I Need to Know Before Marriage

I’ve been told by several people that being with a circumcised man causes dryness and just doesn’t feel as good(without getting too explicit). I’d feel like I’d be missing out if I married a circimcised man. Since I don’t plan on having pre-marital sex, I can’t exactly compare.
since the title of your thread is “something I need to know before marriage” it is topical to add that you need to know the truth of what you were told (which is basically bunkum). why not discuss this with your gynecologists, because your friends are off the wall on this.

I agree with what everyone says about other things being much more important, but I think bad sex can affect a relationship. I’ve done research on this along with hearing friends’ experiences. It really seems like sex with an uncircumcised man is much more comfortable and pleasurable. I just don’t want to stuck in a marriage where sex is a chore.
Good heavens, my man is circumcised and our sex life has always been great. In the beginning since this was all new to me there was definitely a time of learning what worked best for us but it was never bad and never a chore.

I can’t believe you really pass over someone who every way would make a great spouse but had a peice of foreskin removed as a baby.

An in truth I don’t know how you could bring this up to a man without offending him or sounding shallow.

That’s why circ’ed men have a dry grey glans - the body tries to protect itself so it builds up a tough skin over it when in fact, it’s supposed to be pink, moist mucous membrane.
Think of foreplay this made me go ewww. (Yes not very mature but I still feel like ewww thinking about it.) I’ll take my dry guy thank you very much.😉

Honestly, anybody who goes into marriage expecting the sex to be great from Day One will be sadly, sorely disappointed. My husband and I have been married for going on 9 years (he’s circ’d, just for the record), and our first year involved a LOT of getting to know each other, figuring each other out, et cetera. It’s not like plugging an electrical plug into an outlet! If you truly love somebody and are determined to make your marriage work, you also work on the sex factor because yes, that is an important facet of marriage.

If you haven’t even experienced sexual intercourse yet, how do you think you’ll be “disappointed” with no frame of reference??

I think you’re putting way too much thought into this and the attractiveness of your future husband, and not into the type of man you would like to find. My husband is not, physically, what I thought I would be attracted to back when I was in college, but I know God meant us to be together and I find him immensely attractive!

  1. If I had a young teenager on these forums, I would not want him or her to come across this thread. I think it’s not a good subject for CAF.
  2. There are plenty of things that can make sex into a chore without even getting into the issue of circumcision. It would be unwise to develop a false sense of security about the future intimacy of a marriage solely based upon the fact that the husband was not circumcised.
  3. There are plenty of ways around the problem of discomfort during sex.
  4. Once carefully choosing and falling in love with the right man, one may discuss with him the issue, and if he is indeed circumcised, or if after marriage dryness/discomfort were to become a problem, reconstructive surgery is a viable option. I would much rather have a husband undergo surgery (if he were willing) than not have the man I love.
  5. This is not good criteria for choosing a spouse.

I don’t think you proved anything. I do have the same Bible you have. 😉 And New Advent doesn’t specify how *much *foreskin, only that that is the area circumcision affects.

In Biblical times, the foreskin was considered to be only the bit of skin that hung past the glans - thus “fore” skin. (It hung before the rest of the penis skin).

**Peron, James E. Circumcision: Then and Now. Many Blessings 2000;III:41-42. **cirp.org/library/history/peron2/
“The original Biblical circumcision of Abraham’s time was a relatively minor ritual circumcision procedure in which only the redundant end of the foreskin extending beyond the tip of the glans was removed.”

medicalnewstoday.com/your…pinionid=10172
“Showing Jesus intact in nude paintings is consistent with the Jewish Law of circumcision at the time Jesus was circumcised. The same is true of Michaelangelo’s David that shows a nick on the dorsal of his foreskin. In Biblical times the foreskin was only that part of the prepuce extending beyond the glans penis. The Jewish circumcision at the time of Jesus did not expose the glans.”

cirp.org/library/history/
“Much later in the Hellenic period, about 140 C.E., the circumcision procedure was modified to make it impossible for a Jew to appear to be an uncircumcised. A radical new procedure called peri’ah was introduced by the priests and rabbis. In this procedure the foreskin was stripped away from the glans, with which it is fused in the infant”

**Schultheiss D, Truss MC, Stief CG, Jonas U. Uncircumcision: a historical review of preputial restoration. Plast Reconstr Surg 1998;101(7): 1990-1998. **healthboard.com/websites/Detailed/66675.html
“…about 140 AD, they introduced radical circumcision to the Jewish community, the so-called periah. It left the glans totally uncovered…”

**The Oxford Dictionary of the Jewish Religion, Oxford University Press, New York & Oxford 1997. **cirp.org/library/cultural/JewishEnc/
“…the rabbis added to the requirement of cutting the foreskin that of peri’ah (laying bare the glans)…”

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brit_milah
“The Oxford Dictionary of the Jewish Religion, hypothesizes that the present form of circumcision, involving periah (peeling back the foreskin), was commenced during the Second Temple period. According to this hypothesis, Jewish hellenists, wanting to assimilate into Greek society, obliterated the sign of their circumcisions by finding ways to lengthen them, to make it look as if they had not been circumcised at all.[27] This practice was unacceptable to the Jewish community at large, and led to the complete removal of the foreskin to expose the glans. The frenulum may also be cut away at the same time, in a procedure called frenectomy.[28]”
Can we try to stay on topic, Biblical verses non Biblical circumcision should really be another thread.😉

This post pretty much says it all.

This has got to be the craziest thread I’ve ever seen on CAF.

Yes, I agree and I am not at all certain the post is real either - or just another try at getting us to debate circumcision.

This is not accurate.

There is a tremendous amount of misinformation on this very disgusting and extremely inappropriate thread.

I am deeply saddened that this thread has not been removed. It is has absolutely no place on a family-oriented forum.

How is this any different from some other threads on here(i.e. sex during pregnancy)? I didn’t realize this was an off-limit topic.

When did I ever say what I was attracted to physically?

I hope this isn’t TMI, but I really want to marry an uncircumcised man. This is really a must for me! I’ve taken an abstinence pledge, and I plan on keeping it. I just don’t know an apropriate way to bring this issue up before marriage. I don’t want to be disappointed on my wedding night. I’m sorry if this thread offends anyone. I just don’t feel comfortable bringing up the issue with anyone in my life, and I’m really concerned about how I should approach this.
Tell him flat out:

If you don’t snip, you can’t dip.

no offense

Karl Keating posted the following here:
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=1653
The Catholic Answers forums accept as members people who are age 13 and over. This means that young people will have access to whatever is discussed in the Family Life forum.
Certain issues regarding sexuality are properly discussed here. Others should be posted in the Moral Theology forum. And some issues should not be brought up in a public forum.
If you have a question ona sensitive issue (one, for example, that you are not likely to bring up before a group of young teenagers), do not discuss it here. Instead, contact one of Catholic Answers’ staff apologists by letter or telephone.
Threads that, in the opinion of the moderators, fall outside the boundaries of due propriety will be deleted.
Hope this helps, Gisella. I know it was never your intention to post anything inappropriate. Truth be told, there are any number of inappropriate topics being discussed here at a given time. The moderators are kept quite busy, though, and don’t always get around to them all. I posted what I thought was a worthwhile and salient thread a couple of months ago, only to have it vanish within a couple of days. But I don’t question them on these matters. It’s a privilege to be able to use the forums.

I recommend finding other members you feel you would trust on the subject and sending them private messages.

Most certainly, it is. The glans is naturally pink/red and moist. It’s meant to be an internal organ.

Why is this thread inappropriate? There is nothing here being said that is disgusting at all.

I agree this has been discussed on the parenting forum when expectant mothers are considering whether to circumcise or not. It’s a decision that will effect our sons for their entire lives.

Discussing circumcision as a medical procedure is one thing. But I would not wish to have my 13-year-old reading a discussion of the pros and cons of it as it pertains to the marital act. Discussion of sexual problems, in my opinion, ought to be private, for grown-up eyes only.

There have been lots of threads in Family Life on marital intimacy, orgasm, foreplay, how to help excite a spouse. This is not nearly as explicit as some of those have gotten.

And in Parenting the pros and cons in the marital act are also discussed on occasion…I guess I think this has been pretty a calm (though informative) thread. 🤷

I have seen those as well, and even participated in a few before reading Karl Keating’s rule on the subject (see my earlier post). Many of those threads were quite inappropriate given the age of some of the members here. Do you have young teens? Would you want them reading about such subjects on a Catholic website, or any website at all?

No, I wouldn’t. But I also wouldn’t allow them on the computer without supervision (as in, a parent in the same room with them). 🙂

I think that while some subjects are definitely “touchy”, it’s important to remember that sex is not dirty, talk of conjugal sex is not improper and that sexual expression in marriage is not only healthy, but holy.

My question is - why is everyone picking on *this *thread? I haven’t seen a response like this on any *other *sexually explicit thread… It seems odd that this one, which has pretty much remained just “anatomical” is getting such a rap when others that discuss more intimate details don’t.
