Day five:

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

My husbands mental health, perpetual sobriety, and the reparation of our marriage,

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Prayer to Our Virgin of Guadalupe.

Lord, inspire those men and women
who bear the titles “Husband” and “Wife”.
Help us to look to You,
to ourselves,
to one another,
to rediscover the fullness and mystery
we once felt in our union.
Let us be honest enough to ask:
"Where have we been together
and where are we going?
Let us be brave enough to question:
“How have we failed?”
Let each of us be foolhardy enough to say:
“For me, we come first”.
Help us, together,
to reexamine our commitment
in the light of Your love,
willingly, openly, compassionately.
One Hail Mary…

Hail, O Virgin of Guadalupe. We place under your powerful patronage the purity and integrity of the Holy Faith in Mexico and in all the American Continent, for we are certain that while you are recognized as Queen and Mother, America and Mexico and our Matrimony will be saved…

Amen

I need to start the St. Monica novena today again for my husband. Things aren’t going so well. Hello again, ladies!

Boy, I’m not doing so good this time. I seem to be a bit distracted, but what else is new?

I found this thread while looking for answers to the current situation I am in. Thank you all, for keeping this thread alive.
I need prayers. Lots and lots of prayers. It is currently 1:30 in the morning, and I have just returned from retrieving my drunk, suicidal husband from the local bar, from which he fully intended to drive home - unbelievably drunk! I managed to sneak his keys out of his pocket and hide them on him, but things got pretty heated from there. It ended with a wrestling match in the middle of the road in a blizzard - in an effort to keep him from jumping in front of oncoming traffic.

This is the worst it has been with him, but it’s been building for the twelve years we’ve been together. He refuses help of any kind, swears he doesn’t need it. He’s been put on anti-depressants, but drinks while on them, negating any value in them. We were both raised Catholic, however, he has turned severely against religion. Mainly because his only brother (he was raised with 5 sisters) left them young and become devoted to religion. He feels his brother abandoned him for God, and he blames God for that.

I had never heard the Prayer to St. Monica before, but shall recite it faithfully now when I pray to God for help. I am at the end of my rope, and I don’t know that I can stay with him through much more of this. My heart is breaking. I know my prayers have not gone unheard, but I believe that it’s going to take a miracle to turn him around.

My dear sister in Christ. Your story is so close to mine it is truly frightening. Last year during lent, my husband was arrested on DUI charges in another community. He too was falling down stinking drunk when he was arrested, completely black out drunk. My DH did get some help. He went to a counselor for eight months and really didn’t make any headway, and quit in December. He too was taking anti-depressants while continuing to drink. He began weaning himself off of them three weeks ago, and is still experiencing withdrawal symptoms and is still drinking. This LINK will take you to a thread I started on another forum which explains my recent actions and how I’m dealing with my husbands alcoholism.

Stay strong Diana and keep praying. Above all, and I can’t stress this enough, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. You will do no good for your husband if you are not healthy in mind, body and spirit. Especially in spirit. Grab your rosary beads and pray your butt off. Make an appointment with your priest and talk to him. I am slowly realizing it is not selfish for me to pray for and take care of ME. God loves me, and you, and every other wife of an abuser/addict, just as much as he loves our sinning, in desperate need of conversion, husbands.

Novena to St. Monica, Day 4 - done.

Eearlier I posted: could someone please post the St. Monica prayer? Duh!! Why didn’t Iook on another page??? I’m so sorry…
Not only is my body going, but my brain too!!
