Bless you Lamb,My dear sister in Christ. Your story is so close to mine it is truly frightening. Last year during lent, my husband was arrested on DUI charges in another community. He too was falling down stinking drunk when he was arrested, completely black out drunk. My DH did get some help. He went to a counselor for eight months and really didn’t make any headway, and quit in December. He too was taking anti-depressants while continuing to drink. He began weaning himself off of them three weeks ago, and is still experiencing withdrawal symptoms and is still drinking. This LINK will take you to a thread I started on another forum which explains my recent actions and how I’m dealing with my husbands alcoholism.
Stay strong Diana and keep praying. Above all, and I can’t stress this enough, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. You will do no good for your husband if you are not healthy in mind, body and spirit. Especially in spirit. Grab your rosary beads and pray your butt off. Make an appointment with your priest and talk to him. I am slowly realizing it is not selfish for me to pray for and take care of ME. God loves me, and you, and every other wife of an abuser/addict, just as much as he loves our sinning, in desperate need of conversion, husbands.
I have just read the link to your thread, “separated” and your situation is more alike to mine than you were even aware. Thank you for your kind (name removed by moderator)ut. I spoke with my priest yesterday, and spent the entire day in church, praying, reflecting, and seeking guidance from God, and my priest. It appears that all of the prayers for us here, to St. Monica, and my own, have not gone unanswered. Jim came to me late yesterday, profoundly sorry for endangering my life, as well as our relationship. He agreed for the first time ever, that he needed help, and has suggested attending AA meetings.
I have put my faith in God, that this indeed is the beginning of the healing process for us both.
I will continue to pray to St. Monica for us, for you and your husband & daughter, and for all of the wonderful women who are struggling with difficult marriages, and children in need of guidance.
Thank you all for your prayers.
**The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen
Prayer to St. Monica
Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother,
Many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime,
Yet you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
You prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
And your beloved son, Augustine;
Your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me dear St. Monica,
That God may favourably hear my prayer for
My husband’s mental health, perpetual sobriety, the reparation of our marriage, the conversion of my husband and children, and all sinners in my family and of the spouses being prayed for by CAF members,
And Grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever.
Amen**
