Britney Spears, Nsync and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler are among a host of stars who have teamed up to pay tribute to the late Pope John Paul II.

The stars appear in Tribute to Pope John Paul II, a celebration of the pontiff’s thoughts on peace, love, harmony, prayers and poetry.

The celebrities - also including Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Danny Glover, Jennifer Love Hewitt, James Earl Jones, and Brooke Shields - share the words that most inspired them in the video, which has been released by OnQ Digital.

Aren’t his thoughts on “peace, love, harmony, prayers, and poetry” reflections of his moral integrity?
 
How many of them actually “live or preach” with moral intergity??? Though got to give it Britney— she did get married first before getting pregant. Seemed to buck the trend of a “normal” hollywood marriage.

Should that be a pre-requisite to paying homage to the Pope? Are only the sinless worthy to honor him? I don’t think so.

I wonder who’s going to give the tribute to Evangelium Vitae and Theology of the Body? I’ve got my money on Steven Tyler. 👍

From what I understand, Jennifer Love Hewitt was a pretty moral kid. She turned seductress for Maxim once, but I think when she was younger, she fearlessly announced that she was a virgin and was waiting for marriage. I have a lot of respect for the celebrities in that list (not so much Spears, NSync or Tyler, though I don’t really know much about him), so the tribute might be halfway decent.

C’mon now. One should be somewhat familiar with his teachings and at least make an honest effort to emulate them in order to be qualified to “pay homage”, don’t you think? If the Pope had no influence on their lives, what’s the point, other than their celebrity?

Why not have ordinary people who do extraordinary things get interviewed on the Pope’s influence in their lives. How about sinners who were converted by his teaching? How about people whose lives were changed by saying the rosary at his direction? How about all the young people who attended World Youth Day?

Geez Louise! Hearing Brittney Spears talk about the Pope is enough to make gag on my mantilla. And Steve Tyler? Here’s a tip: Theology of the Body does not include “love in an elevator”

(PS: I don’t recognize any of those names as being Catholic. Tim McGraw is Protestant as is his wife, no? )

The man Britney Spears married had an ex-girlfriend who was pregnant with his second child at the time of his marriage to Spears. :tsktsk:

I thought Britney Spears was “addicted to Kabbalah”, as a t-shirt she was photographed wearing proclaimed. I guess PJP II is the latest Hollywood fad? I’ll just be charitable and say that it is nice to see Hollywood stars at least *recognizing *how incredible Pope John Paul II was even if it is for their own publicity.

Maybe they were distracted by his charisma - like many others.

When Jesus scandalized the so-called righteous and broke bread with the sinners of His day, did he expect an instant conversion? Did His actions and words resonant with them further down the road in their lives? Did He not say that He came for the sick and not the healthy?

Don’t get me wrong. I read about these people and judge their lifestyles as decrepit like everyone else. Does it seem wrong that they should use JPII to get a media forum to seem “enlightened”. Yes…but I just want to pray for them and hope that the words that they read will resonate with them, if not today than sooner rather than later.

Who can say he didn’t get the message across and they simply ignored it? I think the whole thing is ludicrous on one level, but no more so than rad trads who try to imply that the Holy Father was a heretic at the worst or most overly concerned with “being liked” (the charisma angle) at best. He doesn’t fit either interpretation. Let us pray for the timely canonization of John Paul the Great.

Lets just say his orthodoxy was suspect to say the least.

“May St John the Baptist protect Islam” amongst other things (including the outrageous event at Assisi).

People need to look beyond his undoubted charm and examine some of the things he said and did.

His repeated message was “liberty, fraternity, equality” (look it up - he said it a lot) which is perhaps why he charmed the people who have no time for Christ.

I never intimated that you accused him of heresy, though you seem to have fairly quickly done so in your posted reply. The depth of John Paul’s greatness will be recognized and treasured by the Church in this “new springtime.” The rad trads (if you consider yourself to be such, that’s your business) can grind their teeth as much as they like and the pan-theists or the charisma-culture vultures can fawn as much as they like over what they’ve misunderstood, the truth of all that he was and the vast depths into which he flung Peter’s net will be known and honored by Christ’s Church. As for the tired, tired “Saint John” invocation and the Assisi “event” (rad trad’s act as though he invited the Dalai Lama to celebrate Mass), search the threads. They’ve been answered by far greater apologists than me.

“May St John the Baptist protect Islam” is indefensible - anyway you care to look at it. Islam is a religion of lies.
