Staying, Leaving?

Of course one wouldn’t have the Eucharist. Rosary, Saints, Mama Mary and other Sacraments,
Take a real long hard look at these words you posted and tell me, what other denomination offers anything remotely close??? I truly believe that those who were properly catechized, who then freely choose to leave the Catholic Church for something less, are making a very, very grave mistake. And there will be Hell to pay! Please rethink your decision.

@Hope1960, are you leaving, then? Why would you abandon Christ and the church He Himself instituted? Why would you leave him at Calvary?

Im staying. Frustrated learning how widespread the abuse and coverups have been. I dont know what the Pope is going to do to fix this problem but I do know it needs to be more than just apologies. I do love and pray for the Pope but something big needs to change. But I love my Catholic faith, Im not leaving. I had a dream last night that those who go to catholic churches in the US will have to face protesters. I dont know if it would happen but even then it wouldnt stop me.

I agree. We know there are three conditions for mortal sin. Grave matter, knowledge and consent.

Leaving God’s church for an “easier” one? Definitely grave matter

Properly catechized? not sure, possibly so since OP identifies as Catholic and the Cathecism of the Catholic Church is available, for free, online and OP is obviously aware of a website where she can receive priestly counsel that is faithful to the Church.

Full consent? Hard to see how voluntarily leaving a voluntary organization is NOT fully consensual.

It seems as if this is truly flirting with the loss of your soul. I simply wouldn’t do it, but we all have free will and OP will have to make her own decision. It would be a good idea to pray for OP, ourselves and the Church.

Rough times…

No, I’m not. As I said in my OP, I planned to stay but after talking this out with a friend of mine, I’m most definitely staying.
I still am distrustful of the Church hierarchy, including (at least for now), Pope Francis.

You’ve asked a great question. My answer is as follows: I would not think of leaving. I have seen the rest and belong to the best!

Also, lets remember to pray for the victims.

I agree and i need more characters 😦

This is not a trial…we are not obliged to make a decision within a certain amount of time. I really do think that it violates Christian charity to call the Pope arrogant and find him guilty far, far before he’s proven innocent. I understand if you don’t agree, circumstantial evidence seems compelling, especially in a crisis, but I hope you will pray and discern a little further before deciding that he is guilty.
I dont know if he is guilty. CAtholic world wide need to demand that the church leaders release all records on this matter and more.

Who is staying in the Church as a faithful Catholic after the scandals an who, if anyone is leaving?

I plan to stay but I feel kind of uncomfortable about staying? Anyone else?
I’m STAYING!
God didn’t make this problem; BUT God WILL clean up the mess IF we pray much and support the good guys!

I’m not uncomfortable at all. Our Church and our Faith is the One Jesus Himself established and wanted and DIED for. And HE had a traitor in His Midst. Jesus CANT LIE!

Mt. 16: 18-19 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 😀 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven…

Douay Explanation :[18] “Thou art Peter”: As St. Peter, by divine revelation, here made a solemn profession of his faith of the divinity of Christ; so in recompense of this faith and profession, our Lord here declares to him the dignity to which he is pleased to raise him: viz., that he to whom he had already given the name of Peter, signifying a rock, St. John 1. 42, should be a rock indeed, of invincible strength, for the support of the building of the church; in which building he should be, next to Christ himself, the chief foundation stone, in quality of chief pastor, ruler, and governor; and should have accordingly all fulness of ecclesiastical power, signified by the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

[18] “Upon this rock”: The words of Christ to Peter, spoken in the vulgar language of the Jews which our Lord made use of, were the same as if he had said in English, Thou art a Rock, and upon this rock I will build my church. So that, by the plain course of the words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against all storms and floods, like the wise builder, St. Matt. 7. 24, 25.

[18] “The gates of hell”: That is, the powers of darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents. For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress, the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry, heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail over the church of Christ.

[19] “Loose upon earth”: The loosing the bands of temporal punishments due to sins, is called an indulgence; the power of which is here granted.

God’s on OUR SIDE! Believe it!

Dennis Prager had a Protestant troll call his radio show yesterday, inviting Catholics to leave the Church over the scandals. The troll said we can leave the Church and “recover” from Catholicism. Prager, a Jew, handled the call in an admirable way. He shut down the caller by saying that the only reason one should leave their church is if they disagree with the church’s doctrine. One should not leave their faith over the personalities or immorality of leaders or others in the church. When the caller said that Martin Luther left the Catholic Church over the immorality of the leaders, Prager shut him down again (in a very polite way) by listing several doctrinal disagreements Luther had with the Church.
Yes, we have some very bad shepherds. But the Church teaches the truth and God is our Father. The first reading (Ezekiel 34:1-11) for last Wednesday August 22, the Queenship of Mary, talks of the bad shepherds, but then God promises: “I myself will look after and tend my sheep.”

I am not leaving, and I am glad to see the problems coming out into the light. I pray we can set things right with God’s grace.

I’m glad that the newest scandals of the Church have seen the light of day. Only when they’re fully exposed will the Church be able to take corrective action that’s needed to prevent them in the future.

I’m not worried at all that the Church will not survive this latest round of scandals. We have our Lord Jesus’ promise that it will.

My concern and prayers are for the victims of this abuse, and all the lost souls that this latest scandal might produce if they decide to abandon the Church and fall away from God due to the latest scandals.

I was born and God willing will die as a Catholic. This is spiritual warfare and Saint Padre Pio’s advice of pray, hope, and don’t worry comes to mind. It’s certainly not easy and I’m very angry with what’s going on. The silence coming from the Vatican is deafening! Also, think about all of those holy Priests and Nuns that never did anything wrong and how they are viewed in the public eye now. I trust that Jesus will sort this out and I have faith in him.

I suspect that this is only the tip of the iceberg, and that it will get a lot worse before it gets better. Nevertheless, bring it on! My plan is to increase my prayer and to stay very close to Our Lady and the Eucharist. Mere “cultural” Catholics need to take warning: very probably their faith will not survive. Time to get serious.

Not even this troll would ever dream of making a thread about leaving.

I’ve posted this several places, but I have not seen an exodus from the Church. I am seeing very much the opposite. RCIA begins Tuesday night with the largest class in ten years.

I admit that I found the Holy Father’s rehabilitation of the so called “Don Mercedes” deeply disturbing. In this and other cases did he act on good faith on the advice of others? I think that likely… but that doesn’t comfort me, because it only means that some of the Holy Father’s advisers have some terrible ideas.
That being said, you mentioned, in an earlier post, of feeling drawn back towards your Protestant roots. With that in mind, two verses in Scripture come to mind. Read Matthew 23:1-3… the Lord strongly rebuked and condemned the Pharisees, yet here we see him commanding the people to OBEY the legitimate teaching authority of these same corrupt hypocrites by virtue of the office (chair of Moses) they hold. Then read John 11:49-52… Caiaphas plotted to murder God in the flesh, yet the Gospel is clear that he spoke “by the Holy Spirit” by virtue of his office as high priest. The point being that even when God’s anointed use their freewill to commit heinous sins, they remain God’s anointed.
