Still ripping on Covington Catholic

Think it’s over? Think again. I wore my CovCath hoodie, purchased from the CovCath store (all profits to the school) to Mass today. An obviously agitated woman was apparently waiting for me in the lobby after I finished my after Mass prayers. She asked me if the garment had to do with Covington Catholic High School I said yes. When she asked me why I’m wearing it I said I support the school. Then she launched into accusations against the students, basically stuff that was being said the first day or two after the incident. I reminded her that subsequent information showed otherwise. She seemed to want to persist in debating it. I said “God bless you” and walked away. I don’t know if she’s Catholic? Sad if she is and still buys the false narrative. Please pray for her.

Anyone else still hearing this kind of stuff? Particularly from professed Catholics?

Someone’s opinion of an online youtube outrage event does not somehow hinge on their Catholicity.

If all you own is a hoodie, that is one thing, but, in the future you might save hoodies for Saturday at the park and wear a sweater to Mass.

Actually I just ordered two football tees from the CCHS store. They’re quite nice looking and very reasonably priced.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Again, all sorts of sports wear (hoodies, T shirts) are available. Unless you don’t own anything else, wear nicer clothes for Mass.

When it’s warmer I’ll wear polos with collars, or a polo with a nice Catholic t shirt over it. I never wear shorts or sandals.
I often wear Catholic hoodies in winter. Not just to Mass, either–all over town. If somebody doesn’t like my Catholic apparel, tough.
More to the point–why would any informed Catholic still cling to the utterly false narrative about the Covington Catholic boys behaving badly?

Because she wants to. Don’t sweat it. I’m sure you’ve noticed that people today tend to ignore evidence and reason and cling to whatever narrative suits them best. Nothing you can do except what you did.

Yup, you even see people ignoring and clinging here on CAF! 😉

Like, $13. Shipping from Kentucky is about $7 or $7.50. That’s why I got a second tee with this logo.
I love HS football, especially Catholic school football! Got a yearly pass to NFHS high school sports streaming video. Hoping to see the top three Trinity League teams play three out of state teams this September.

Do you have some connection to the school other than your desire to show support? If not, wearing it around seems like really inviting conversation.

I have no problem with respectful conversation. I have a problem with any Catholic who continues to argue the false narrative about the CCHS boys. And I don’t need to justify my support for CCHS. I hope they win state in football, and any other sport they play. I hope Nick Sandmann gets a fat settlement. Then I hope he gives a chunk of that to the school and they name a building after him. Maybe the track or a gym.
I support a number of Catholic schools and their teams, for various reasons. One, for example, because I heard their coach speak at a clinic and he was nice to me afterward. And they treat their custodians well. Very well. I wear their apparel too.
I support Bishop Manogue because they’re the only Catholic HS in northern Nevada.
I have a hat coming with their logo.
I fiercely support Catholic schools and Catholic HS sports. CCHS kids got bullied and doxxed, so I definitely support them!

And, this: " “To keep merchandise quality high and prices low our store is staffed and managed by volunteers. 100% of the Spirit Shop profits contribute to the overall school operations.”

I’m apparently not alone, far from it. In the last month or so many Catholics have shown their support for CCHS through purchases. In fact the shop can’t keep some items in stock!

I like their hats with the C and cross.
I don’t think I have the stomach to wear a shirt that says Covington Catholic myself. I don’t enjoy confrontation. But if you do, go for it. I agree with you, I think it is ridiculous that people stick with the first (incorrect) story they heard.

Yeah, that C+ logo is cool.
I’ll be watching them play Highland this fall on NFHS. Go Colonels!
I’m not looking for a quarrel either. When the woman confronted me after Mass today, I corrected her politely, then walked away, politely.

Just reported the vile, CCHS hit page to Facebook. It’s clearly in violation of their standards. Won’t hold my breath, though. I’m sure it’s been reported already.

I am new to computers and I couldn’t tell whether the OP was a male or a female .

Male. Though there are fanatical Catholic school supporters, and fanatical Catholic HS football supporters who are female, of course. 😎

I hear suits can be quite warm.

Just because something has a Catholic slogan or logo on it doesn’t mean it’s meant for Mass. Unless you want to drive confrontation.

I don’t concern myself much with what others are wearing to Mass, as long as it’s not sexually provocative. I’m not a member of the Mass fashion police force.
As far as any professed Catholic who is still triggered by Covington Catholic, or by any other Catholic high school name or logo? That’s their problem.
Maybe the lady I mentioned in the original post will get herself up to date with the Covington story and learn how very misinformed she is. Hope so.
