Reprint of a LSN article, so, I take it with a boulder of salt.

Where in the article did anyone claim to not present Church teaching to LGBT folks?
Where did they mention doing so? What do you think being a part of the ‘LGBT community’ means?
What does the following mean?
Take Hilary Howes, the founder of TransCatholic and an advocate for making the church more welcoming to transgender people.

“It’s sometimes as tough to be Catholic within a queer community as it is tough to be queer within a Catholic community,” Ms. Howes said. “When I’m at a Pride event, I wear my Catholicism on my sleeve so people know there are Catholics who support them.” The D.C.-area resident added that during Pride she offers to tell her own stories of transitioning and then converting to Catholicism, to show there is already great diversity within the church.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way but the language she used is pretty clear, and I think you’re a bit naive if you think they’re out there sharing the Church’s teaching on homosexuality. If they are, they are quickly following it with “well they’re just wrong. Look at this book by John Boswell!”

I think this is another reason we fail as a faith community in responding to LGBT people – we consistently look past what they’re saying and read something nefarious into their comments. There is zero evidence to suggest that the person I quoted earlier is lying or not supporting Church teaching. It seems uncharitable to suggest that she is.

You’re talking to one. I have same sex attraction. I was a member of the gay ‘community’ for over 5 years.

And you believe that those who identify as LGBT Catholics should largely be seen as liars?

Not entertaining their delusions.
Yes…Jesus did not walk with the adulteress woman very long before He said ‘Go and sin no more’

Interesting how the discussion has moved away from the abuse the priest has encountered by proclaiming the teaching of Christ. This is a sign of persecution to come if the liberal left comes into power.

I believe they are horribly misinformed or downright dishonest with themselves.
I’m very confused. You cited Courage earlier. Is everyone associated with Courage “horribly misinformed or downright dishonest with themselves”?

Those Catholics who think they can reconcile Church teaching with their lifestyles of same sex behavior and relationships are misinformed or dishonest with themselves. Sometimes they are sadly misinformed by clergy (speaking from experience).

That is not what was stated by the woman I quoted.

Read between the lines is all I can say. If you had my experience you’d see what that kind of talk means. Acceptance doesn’t just mean accepting ‘who I am’, it also means ‘what I do’.

Okay – all I can say is that it seems uncharitable to assume, based on your own experiences, that this woman is a liar as is everyone else who identifies as an LGBT Catholic. And frankly, I can’t imagine how this sort of view will help us to make headway with those who identify this way.

We shouldn’t support “pride month”. We don’t need to be concerned with what some LGBT Catholics might think of it, we need to be concerned with what God thinks about it. The whole idea is one of validating the lifestyle, and that’s something which we cannot be associated with as Catholics.

Furthermore, we cannot give the impression of standing arm in arm with those that do promote “pride”.

What is there for a Catholic to “celebrate” in Pride month? The sinful actions of others? Seeing as how “Pride” in this instance is being used synonymously with support and celebrations homosexual actions, there is no way a Catholic in good faith could celebrate Pride Month. Not celebrating Pride Month isn’t a matter of opinion when it’s very celebration is contrary to Catholic teaching. To support it would be to engage in actions that promote the sins of others which in itself is sinful.
I don’t celebrate Pride Month and never have. In fact I didn’t go to the Pride event here last year even though they had a free concert with a music star I wanted to see.

I don’t think someone should be “proud” of having SSA as that’s something they didn’t choose. Just like I’m not “proud” of the fact that I’m a particular race or my ancestors came from a certain country.

But, given the history of LGBT being fired from their jobs, LGBT youth being abandoned by their families, and LGBT youth being harassed and bullied in schools, I can see how they’d want to do something to show the rest of the community that they’re not out there to molest your children; that they just want to be treated with the same respect others get.

To identify as an LGBT Catholic is to use your sinful inclinations to define your faith. No way around that. I don’t describe myself as a Slothful Catholic and celebrate my slothful inclinations. As soon as sex and lust are involved I’ve observed that logic is thrown to the wind.
